After getting 4 different quotes we selected CHI because of their low estimate, reputation on Houzz and the fact they did custom cabinets. Issues we had are too numerous to list but these are the worst areas:
• Poor drywall repair and patching and poor painting……..all done by their “carpenter”
• Had re-painted by professional painters but due to poor prep, still a poor result
• Design ideas and measurements by their “design expert” were all flawed:
o Hutch not deep enough, kitchen corner cabinets couldn’t open around oven, built in shelves too high for opening and had to be recessed, office desk a disaster and had to be re-built on site……..these are only a few issues with cabinets. Constant mistakes led to it taking over 2 months for full cabinet installation!
• Heated bathroom floors barely work at 30C and don’t heat the entire bathroom as promised
• Quartz waterfall bar counter only polished quartz on one side
We got an initial “ballpark” budget from Barry, the owner. Only at our insistence did we get a written budget which was then missing key components. When these were added in the revised budget was 32% higher than originally quoted. With our constant issues we lost trust in Barry and asked to deal with someone else. We then got Aaron, Barry’s son. Issues and corrections continued. We declined some re-do’s because we had no faith in them doing a better job the second time. When it was “finally” complete we asked for some compensation. Aaron did give us some “slight” compensation admitting that this project had a lot of issues and it was not their best work. Even after that we had spent 27% more than budget (which was 68% more than initial quote). We paid a very premium price for a very mediocre job. We lost total trust in Classic and would NOT recommend them to anyone doing any kind of major job. We are extremely disappointed!!
Classic Home Improvements was contracted to install our countertop through the Home Depot. They did not fulfill any of the terms of the contract that we signed as far as the timeline for the measure or the install. The countertop was then cut the wrong size and shape and was chipped. The reorder took weeks and we eventually had to cancel. The poor workmanship and customer service from this company set back our kitchen renovation months. We would never recommend this company to anyone.
Classic Home Improvements is the preferred contractor for the Home Depot Countertop Installation Services on Vancouver Island. As such, we have limited control or influence over any of the Home Depot contracts made with their customers. Our regular process involves Home Depot notifying us of any measures and installs that need to take place and we book them accordingly.
On October 3rd , Home Depot notified us that new cabinets were being installed at a client's house on the 6/7th. Due to the timeline, our installer was booked the first available date to measure their countertops. This was October 14th . When we went out to measure we discovered that the clients walls were so badly out of square that we could not use the material we had pre-ordered for the job and had to reorder the material. At this point the client also wanted to change the depth of the bar top from what was agreed upon in their order through Home Depot. This must all be done through the Home Depot store and is managed through their department. We went to install the countertops on the November 12th and discovered at that time that a piece had been cut incorrectly and another was damaged during install. We left the pieces in place so the client would have a functioning kitchen until the new tops arrived. All the pieces were reordered for the 'U' shape to ensure a satisfactory product for the client even though one piece was not damaged. We tried to arrange the installation of the new tops for the 4th of December but the client refused that date saying it was not soon enough. However, it was the earliest possible date we could have the material ready to be installed. At that point the Home Depot refunded the customer their money.
We continue to be completely willing and committed to ensuring that Home Depot customers have a good product installed. Unfortunately it is difficult to correct a problem when the client is unwilling to communicate. Since there are no guarantees for material or installation timelines on our end, any contract issues that have supposedly been breached in relation to timelines would have to be dealt with the Home Depot directly. We have never had any contracts with Installation Service clients directly and guarantee all of our work.
