Our project was, apparently, the last one Cornerstone Interiors undertook before relocating to Ontario.
Marcello Cavalieri failed to pay three of the subcontractors he hired to complete work on our project (that we know of). As a result, we have been served with building liens, small claims suits and ongoing frustrations for a year after project completion.
The work was done adequately, however, due to the above issues, we cannot justify more than a 1 star rating in any area. If you are considering hiring them, you should ensure that Marcello isn't planning to relocate again in the near future.
Brian,
Your rating by criteria does not justify your claim. The work completed exceeds the term adequate. You where informed of the errors the sub trades had conducted and their lack of willingness to correct them. You knew very well I had exhausted every avenue to resolve the issues at hand with these sub trades. They were sent a full explanation of the delays and cost I had to incur to complete your project.
You were also aware of the relationship with the landscapers was terminated because of their incompetence to complete their hired task. As I have told you several times, a proposal was offered to them. I can not be responsible for their lack of professionalism in how they choose to handle their affairs. This is why I terminated their services.
As for your statement of relocating. You again where notified in July I was to temporarily be in Ontario to support my mother in laws battle with 4th stage cancer followed by my mothers battle with dementia. Because of the sub trades failure to respond accordingly and my determination to complete your project, I never arrived until November. This had also caused much strain on my family.
Considering I have been completely transparent with you during your project, I am very offended by your last comment. It clearly shows a lack of respect on your part.
There is still one issue you failed to disclose to the public. You still have an outstanding balance of 9800. It's been a year now. After we bury my mother in law in the next few weeks and I fully recover from the stroke I suffered in August, I will be returning this fall.
You leave me no option to also lien your property and file a claim against you for the outstanding balance.
Last week we had our pipes freeze and burst. We contacted Cornerstone Interiors and they responded quickly. After some investigating, he saw that my kitchen sink taps had also been leaking causing a lot of damage and rott to the counter top. Since we had already purchased new taps and sink but hadn't installed them yet, we decided now was a good time to get this done. The problem was the counter top was pretty much rotted and we were hosting a dinner party for 6 that evening.
Marcello suggested that he could re construct and reinforce the old counter and install the new sink in the old counter top before we got the water running. He showed some creative carpentry skills and resolved the problem effectively. Low and behold he thawed out the water pipes, fixed the counter top and finished the sink install. We were able to have our dinner party without a glitch. He was awesome! Thank you for coming through in a stressful time. We also had him come back to adjust our front door and install a beautiful new front door handle. Everything looks and works great. Marcello's is definitely a professional and will be recommending him you our family and friends .
We are very pleased with the renovations done in our washroom. Could not be happier with the colours and styles Marcello had helped us choose. He had listened to everything we had asked him to do as well he had given us some great suggestions that we also had followed and done. I would highly recommend him in any kind of renovations you are looking to do in your home.
Thank you for doing such a wonderful job!
Daniela
We were thrilled beyond belief at the end result of Marcello's craftsmanship!
We live in a century home with add-ons, it is a rather unique home with unusual features. In the original 1 1/2 storey part of our home, a previous owner created a greenhouse which you entered from the basement. Truth be told it just ended up housing odds and sods of things that you just didn't know where to put. It was cold and drafty and really of little use. Well with time and weather, it caved in...
We really did not want a replica of the original since we had little use for it. We started coming up with concepts to seal this gaping hole! Since the regular staircase to our basement is unusually narrow which makes exchanging washers, dryers etc. near impossible, we thought that the most wonderful thing for this gaping hole would be to have the former greenhouse transformed into an old fashioned New England style double door walk down to the basement. This would allow for a nice wide access to the basement to move appliances and wood for the stove so much easier!
Now enter the fragile part...directly above the gaping hole is a bay window in the dining room. It is to say the least, fragile! Our budget did not allow for replacing this window also, as it is quite massive and expensive to replace.
A family friend recommended that we contact Marcello. We met with Marcello and we described what we were thinking and could only provide a crude sketch of what we were hoping the end product to look like.
Not only was Marcello able to envision what we were hoping for, he improved upon it beyond our expectations. The bay window was supported by a steel post, smack dab in the middle of the opening. Carefully he fashioned 2 x 10" laminated beams to support the window without the steel beam and also built it in such a fashion so that the window could easily be replaced in the future.
The structure is perfect and Marcello took great care to save the bay window for future replacement. We could not have blamed him if it had broken!
Our old century home has quite a number of items on the to-do list and as our budget permits, there is only one go-to home renovating expert for us! Our family highly recommends Marcello, he has the imagination to envision what you want and the skill and craftsmanship to exceed your expectations!
With much appreciation,
The Rachfalowski family.
Marcello is a very competent and knowledgeable contractor.Very meticulous which we loved.Very pleasant to be around our cottage as always in a pleasant mood.My mothers condo will be renovated completely and we have recommended him to the new owners
Marcello from Cornerstone Interiors proved himself to be a contractor who was willing to go the distance. He was an individual who showed both integrity and resolve in completing a job that had time limitations. I would recommend his services to anyone in need of a solid contractor as well as adding the creative component.
Cornerstone and Marcelo have been added to our speed dial on our phone. The work was done well and any changes were discussed in advance and approved by us. He makes suggestions along the way to improve the scope of the project that enhance it without unnecessarily increasing the cost. He is professional and gets the job done within timelines. We will call them again and would recommend them to others.
Marcello did an excellent job of custom fitting a door for a crawl space that is visible from the living area. He kept the job budget-friendly by fitting the door to the door frame, without pulling the frame off. The frame was not constructed 100% square (most are not these days).. Before installing, Marcello fitted the new door at the shop with wood inside the hollow frame so the door would not warp. He spent time adjusting the door to the frame to appear even on all sides and results look great. Thanks also for taking a bit of extra time to attach the same closing mechanism to the door of my antique cabinet. It now closes properly, after using paper shims to keep it shut for way too many years. It was a pleasure to have Marcello construct and install, and appreciate the care and time taken. Thanks again and all the best.
Marcello put in a concrete pad for the new porch lift at my parents' house. He also removed a step to the street on the front walk so that it is now wheelchair accessible. He did a good job at a reasonable price, and was very open to answering all my parents' concerns about the process and the finished product. He cleaned up all materials and ensured they were happy before leaving. I am happy to recommend him and I would call him again if I ever need similar work done.
