I had Edwin install my vinyl planking in my condo. The work was well done and timely. However when it was time to pay, I pointed out items on the bill that wasn't needed or done like subfloor installation and underlay. He said oh that was right, but he said he didn't charge me for other things so it evened out...I was stupid enough to pay but thought later I should have disputed it.
I hired Edwin prior to this bathroom renovation for hardwood flooring. His experience in that field is outstanding. I won’t take that away from him. So I decided to hire him as he assured me that he had bathroom/ tile experience.
Unfortunately I’ve lost all trust in him and would like to share this awful experience. This is a warning to potential clients. Clients can decide for themselves if they want to hire Edwin.
I won’t recommend him and will not hire him again.
By the way the vanity and toilet had already been removed prior to Edwin being hired.
The scope of the job is as follows:
Install new vanity and plumbing
Install new toilet
Remove old tub/replace with new tub.
Tile work and new moisture resistant drywall
Install acrylic tile flooring
He started October 7 and “finished” November 22. Ridiculous timeline
Finding the appropriate tile posed a major challenge since his supplier had to custom order, the setback was 2 weeks. This issue slowed the progress. Unfortunately he didn’t order enough of the tile the first time, he didn’t calculate and measure properly so another order had to be placed. Waited 2 more weeks for another batch of tile.
I completed these repairs as I started noticing issues.
Here’s what I got:
The vanity drain started leaking water into the cabinet, there wasn’t enough plumbing putty on the drain ring.
I had to remove the ring and reseal with caulking.
The toilet base to the flooring was not caulked.
I had to caulk the toilet.
The flooring grout near the tub was stained with drywall mud and dust.
I had to use a toothbrush and cleaner to remove the staining.
The bathtub was not caulked and the tile grout
had started to crack.
I had to caulk the entire perimeter of the bathtub including the outside where it sits on the flooring.
He used regular drywall and rolled on a moisture barrier product. But scraped it off because of tile fitment issues.
I wish I could’ve made that call but he didn’t involve me in that decision, so now there’s no moisture protection on that wall.
Finally the worst, the bathtub drain pipe wasn’t glued and when my daughter showered, the pipe disconnected as a result water started pouring into our ceiling above our living room TV. Within 5 minutes water started to pour out from one of my kitchen pot lights, my wife ran to the kitchen and started panicking OMG. water made it all the way down to my basement. What a disaster.
Thank god we were here as it happened as my daughter was unaware what was happening only until I ran upstairs to tell her to shut the shower off. I was so angry.
I called Edwin and texted after I figured out what happened, I didn’t get a response until 30hours later.
I ended up repairing the drain leak, but now I still have to fix the ruined drywall.
I wish I could give them -100 for timeliness. Before signing a contract with us to finish flooring, ceiling, painting and more in our basement and some work on the main floor, they claimed that they were the most professional people. They badmouthed the previous contractor we had hired for drywalls. They guaranteed excellent quality and timely finish. They promised that they would start on April 8 and would finish in about 3 weeks. We wrote a contract in which we gave them five weeks instead. They did not show up for the first three weeks. Then after that when I asked, they started to come for 3-4 on weekdays and one of the guys would constantly complain that how it wasn’t possible to do the work they had taken the contract for. Then that guy stopped coming. We extended the completion date from May 15 to May 30. After about a week of work, their work schedule became extremely sporadic and they would never tell us if they were not coming. We would leave the house unlocked for them and they would just not come. After about another week or so, even Edwin started to complain, and talk as if he was doing us a favour to work. This went on until late June. Then two weeks back, they completely stopped coming. We repeatedly called them and messaged them and they did not even have the courtesy to tell us if they would come or not. It’s July 6 and our work is less 40% completed. They started the work in our living room, that is half done leaving the room in a mess. They started backsplash tiles in the kitchen, that is yet to be completed. The basement of course is incomplete. Only done flooring in two rooms. Been three months and here we are. I wonder how they are even in this trustedpro list. They complain nonstop, don’t care to communicate, don’t care about their timeline commitments, start every thing but finish nothing. In the living room while putting tiles they splashed the cement on the carpet as they didn’t cover the area before starting. The adjoining walls are smeared with extra cement. Thankfully, we had written the contract such that, we had the right to cancel the contract under such circumstances. So yesterday, we canceled the contract.
End flooring is absolutely the hardest most wonderful workers. They installed hardwood floors and even fixed a problem from previous workers who did not come back when asked to fix it. Free of charge. And his helper with tattoos is very tall and good looking. Sexy.
Edwin did a wonderful job installing hardwood flooring in my living room, hall and 3 bedrooms. The guys were extremely hard working and removed all the previous flooring with no fuss whatsoever. They did a great job and were extremely helpful to me with putting the heavy furniture back in place. They were also very easy going and even put felt pads on everything to protect the flooring. Altogether a real pleasure to have these two in my home doing the work that I wanted and needed. Would highly recommend Edwin and his business to anyone who wants high quality work done correctly. Thanks guys!
