Mr Drain, he knows how to drain your wallet!
I called them about gurgling sounds in my pipes and very slow water draining. They came, unblocked the pipes (their saying) and charged me 500$. It did flow slightly better but the gurgling was still very obvious. Spoke with the owner on the phone and he told me that it was a venting issue and that my pipes were not well done to favor a good water flow. The employee on site tells me it should be about 500$ job to redo the plumbing with proper venting.
Few days later they come back and do the pipe arrangement. The bill is now 1500$, so basically 3 times what I was given as an estimate!! And the gurgling sound and the flow was not better! After another discussion with the owner on the phone, he tells me that I don't have an air vent through the roof and that maybe the gurgling might go away by itself. It's an old house they can't do much... He tells me if it blocks again within the next 6 month they would be back free of charge. I'm unhappy, but I still pay them...
1 month later, the flow has become terrible, water comes back from the kitchen sink geyser style! I call them, they tell me it's my fault I'm making improper use of my kitchen sink and washing machine. If they come back they have to charge me. After a few texts they agree to look into this again. I call their office the next day, they tell me they will call me back, and they never did!
(I did business with another company right after, they came and charged me 600$, blockage is gone, no more sound, super flow...)
The information provided was misleading.
1-Contact the insurance
2-Get a second opinion
3-Dont sign any documents
4-Get another company to do the job.
Very misleading information, making me take wrong decisions
The insurance company had their opinion on estimating this job and on the costs of doing it, however please remember that they are in the business of either not paying clients, or paying as little as possible. I told Mr pedrosa what the reality of this was.
His policy is a policy that he chose, and it only covered the damaged area of drain pipes, and not the whole length of pipe.
This, and the entire job and contract, front and back, was explained by me to him and his wife, clearly, concisely and I answered any and all questions that they had about the job, the contract, the insurance, the entire process, etc. Furthermore, I made it abundantly clear that in no way shape or form could I predict nor guarantee what their insurance company would decide with their claim. I told them that they could call in advance if they wished, and I also told them that it was always their decision to either call or wait. The end result would have probably been the same anyway. I also made it very clear many times, that if the insurance company only paid part, or nothing at all, that they were responsible to pay for this job.
Overriding even all of this is the contract that you signed, which clearly states the full extent of the job, the costs related to the job, and all the terms and conditions that you are legally obliged to adhere to and respect. I outlined everything about this contract BEFORE they signed it and they agreed to it.
This job was done months ago, and we have cooperated with the insurance company, sent reports and videos, and I have had telephone conversations with them. I have done everything that I could to get them to cover this work. We have patiently waited for a decision, almost 60 days to get paid, without pressuring this client at all.
His false statements above are libelous and slanderous and if he continues to spout lies like this, we will pursue him in a court of law. All documents were provided and carefully reviewed and were signed. The entire process and all of the related costs were all carefully and repeatedly explained.
I had a terrible experience with this company, just before the COVID-19 pandemic. I called Monsieur Drain on a Friday afternoon because by central drain was blocked. A team of 2 junior plumbers arrived on time and tried to unblock the drain. They had a hard time and after about 30 minutes, and with the use of a camera, they concluded that there was a structural problem and it was impossible to do their job. They charged me $ 400 in cash and told me that their supervisor would contact me to arrange a site visit with a plumber and give me an estimate for the big structural job (including breaking a concrete wall) that needed to be done in order to resolve the issue. I was disappointed but waited for the phone call. After waiting at least 2-3 hours, I tried to reach the supervisor myself. He told me he was busy over the weekend and would contact me after Monday. However, he kept me on hold for the weekend in case he would find time. I became suspicious, especially because my problem required an urgent solution. Therefore, I contacted another company. They came on Monday morning and unblocked the drain immediately. They explained me that Monsieur Drain didn’t use the right equipment. There was no structural problem, they were just incompetent and lacked the appropriate equipment. I was very upset with all this and also the fact that I wasted $ 400. I contacted the Director of Monsieur Drain and asked to charge me $ 100 for the service call and return me $ 300 out of the $ 400 I paid them; this would be a fair solution. At the beginning he didn’t want to hear about it but after talking over the phone he seemed to be receptive and requested to contact the other company that fixed the problem, to clarify the technical details. I gave him the phone number, and I also convinced the guy from the other company to speak to the Monsieur Drain Director over the phone. However, after several attempts to finalize an agreement, I realized that the Director was just trying to buy time and let this thing fade away, especially during the COVID-19 lockout. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO STAY AWAY FROM MONSIEUR DRAIN. I hope that this negative publicity will make them lose much more money from potential customers than the $ 300 I requested as reimbursement for their poor service.
We responded quickly in an emergency situation as requested by this client. The 2 men who are 2 of our drain technicians have been in our employ for many years and have the necessary training, knowledge and experience required to properly perform their duties. They were at this very old property for at least 2 hours in their attempt to unblock the drain pipe. Both the rooter cable and the camera were stuck at the same point in the drain pipe. When this happens, in more than 9 cases out of 10, there is usually a structural problem of some sort that impedes the equipment ( a break, dislodgement, poor plumbing, a 90 degree elbow which should not be there, etc.), and this happens very very often in properties that are approx 100 years old, such as this one. The client understood the situation quite well and was prepared to get the necessary remedial work done. Most people do not work on the weekend and it was explained to the client that we would probably contact him after the weekend to meet and discuss this repair work. The client even said that he understood this and would wait until Monday. Once contacted, he had already engaged the services of another company to do work for him. He did an about face quite quickly without even giving us the time to react in a normal professional and calm manner. How this other company was able to determine that we used the wrong equipment is a mystery because they were not present at the time of our intervention, nor should they rely on the word of this client, who is not a plumbing expert. It is very easy and tempting and extremely unprofessional for a competitor who is only hungry for business to say anything to a client who is in a frame of mind to accept criticism leveled at the original company who came in an emergency to help him. The client says that he wants a refund. He was present when we attempted to unblock his drain, he witnessed our efforts, he signed the bill and paid us willingly. His mode of payment was HIS choice, and he had no problem with it at all. Refunds are not given simply because a client feels that he deserves one - a company would quickly be out of business if this was the case!!! The client was supposed to have the other company call our director, but even after a few messages to tell him that we had not been contacted by the other company, he continues to claim that we were buying time. The director was and is still willing to hear what the other company has to say, contrary to the claims made here by this client. Apparently, this client is in a field related to the medical and health care industries, and yet still does not appreciate the confusion, uncertainty and fears that everyone had when the Covid pandemic hit Montreal. Nonetheless, we were always willing to listen and to meet. We service 100's of clients every month and encounter all types of plumbing and drainage issues constantly. We always do our best to help our clients. With the thousands upon thousands of clients that we have helped over the last 2 decades, there are bound to be a few problem cases because of some bad plumbing or even because of a failed attempt to unblock, but these occur in about 1 out of 500 to 1000 service calls. We make virtually all of our clients happy and they are very satisfied with our response time, our level and quality of service, our fair pricing, our courteous team, and the follow up with our office. This client feels that the way to resolve this is to go public and falsify information and exaggerate his claims. It is an open and free society and he can certainly do and say what he wants, however it does not mean that he is being truthful nor accurate. It has no bearing on our actual accomplishments as a professional company that always goes above and beyond the call of duty for its clients.
The drain in our house started backing up around June/July of 2019 (drain system in our house was over 80 years old so it was only a matter of time). Found Mr. Drain on the web. Biggest mistake was not reading the reviews before hiring them but, I was desperate at the time and panic kicked in because we could not use any water without making matters worse.
Never hire these guys unless you want to go through the following:
1- Total disrespect of your time. Famous line from them is "but we have other clients to go to". As if I am a charity case to them and not paying them for their services. They try having a foothold in every client they find so as to not lose one but spread themselves thin in the process getting little done per client at a time.
2- Total disrespect of your property. Smoking on your property, leaving their disposable plastic bottles or coffee/tea cups from Tim Horton or Mcdonalds all over the place for you to pickup after them. Wrecking parts of your house that has nothing to do with the job because they are a bunch of careless klutzes.
3- Lying: lost count of how many times they said they would show up on a given day, only to not to show up or even call to say they cannot make it. Saying they will fix a pipe I was dissatisfied with only to back track and then bail out from their own claim.
4- Poor re-cementing job. They said they will poor in cement to the level of the original foundation only to fill in more earth and poor on top of that to make it even with the layer above the cement so some places are to the level while other places were not.
5- Bad plumbing. Some places were okay while others were Picasso plumbing. They put up a pipe sticking 7 inches away from the wall by the time it made it to the main drain. I would have build a 7x2 inch frame around it to hide it. I had to take the time to fix their work with the help of a friend to flush the pipe in the wall to win over the lost space.
6- Price gouging and shady practices. They made me do a camera inspection of the main drain pipe connecting to the main sewer, claiming the city side had issues only for the camera inspection and report showing nothing wrong (city reviewed the report and video and found nothing). Twice I was offered to pay under the table so let the CRA and Revenue Quebec run after them because who knows how many times they pulled this stunt on people.
Conclusion: Dealing with high priced, disrespectful, low quality work, liars.
Mr. Sen was treated with respect and at all times, we endeavored to meet all deadlines. We were always aware that they required the use of the facilities asap. In our business, there are unforeseen events and emergencies that must be prioritized. We are an emergency service company and as such, we really try hard to meet everyone's needs. For the majority of time at Mr. Sens home, schedules were respected. Mr. Sen fails to mention that there was major road work being done on his street by the city, and there were also rain delays affecting our ability to do the outdoor portion of the work and subsequent work site cleanup. We not only fulfilled all of our contractual obligations for Mr. Sen, but we also provided our entire resources and workforce at times on site in order to accomplish this job as quickly as possible
As to Mr. Sen's claim of our disrespect to his property, it must be noted that this was a work site where demolition occurred in the entire basement and on the front lawn. We followed all broken and rotten underground pipes and our goal was to accurately remove and replace all old pipes with new plumbing as required. We do NOT dig or remove things unnecessarily and can assure anyone that we do a job properly and completely and make sure that our work is always in the interests of our client. Any unforeseen circumstances were immediately explained to Mr. Sen and only then did we go ahead with that part of the job. Excavation and breaking of a marble & cement floor inside does create a bit of a mess as does the piling up of rocks, earth, debris, etc. Outdoor excavation work also destroys a front lawn. This was not a pristine and antiseptic environment. Workers have a right to breaks, to smoking, etc. Any garbage left accidentally on site was all picked up and cleaned up in the final day of closing up the work site.
Mr. Sen claims that we did a poor cement job. The cement was poured and leveled with the original cement slab of the basement and garage. If he felt that there were any deficiencies, all he had to do was to contact Monsieur Drain to come look at the alleged problem. We fully warranty our work. If he does not talk to us, how can we know that there is a problem? Mr Sen also claims that we did a poor plumbing job. He refers to a pipe that descends from the garage side wall down to the basement to the main drain connection. There was ALWAYS a pre-existing box in the wall from a previous pipe in the same location. This strategy was fully discussed and explained to Mr. Sen BEFORE we even started it. He was given an option to excavate very deep into the garage floor through cement and earth, rocks, etc., but decided that it was too expensive. He consequently told us to do what we suggested and that he would build a box. It is clearly stated in our contract that we do not do secondary repairs & any finishing,so his claim that he had to fix our work and build a box is utter nonsense, as he knew that this would be something that he would have to do on his own later.
Mr. Sen says that we price gouge and utilize shady practices. He insisted on a camera inspection as requested by the city. We obliged. I presented the initial contract to Mr Sen and his mother in a clear and concise manner, explaining all the cost components, all well before we started any work. He was given very fair market pricing which he clearly understood & approved. He called his insurance company and asked me to talk to them and I subsequently provided them with a full detailed report of his problem and the repairs, along with a full estimate and copies of signed contracts. Mr Sen received a very large insurance cheque covering most of this entire project in the end because of me!
All payments are recorded and we pay our taxes. Mr Sen is being unfairly mean, accusatory and totally inaccurate. We guarantee all of our work. If he has an issue, he can simply call us instead of going public with lies, exaggerations and fabrications.
From A to Z, we had a great experience with Mr Drain. I'd used them a couple of times to flush a major clog. More recently, a section of my sewer was replaced. They have the machines necessary to do jobs in strange old buildings, and their plumbers are top-notch and always actually working and the price was very fair.
SCAM artists. Avoid at all costs. I had same experience as previous reviewers: They don't make an effort to clean the drain. Instead they try to convince you that the drain needs completely replacing (excavation job). They are looking to con you into paying for a more expensive (unnecessary) job.
Over a year ago, called them for a drain cleaning. Over the phone i insisted on them cleaning it with high pressure water. A few years ago, I had a previous blocked drain issue, after multiple attempts with router (cutting heads), i found high pressure water was the only way to get it cleaned. So i knew it was only with water pressure that the drain could be cleaned.
When they arrived, they told me that they would use the router to clean it. They said water pressure is no good. Although thats not what we agreed on before.
During the cleaning process, the guy was being over dramatic, ex: "F*ing drain is collapsed, i cant go on"..for people with experience, i would expect them to handle a simple drain cleaning.
Long story short: they didnt clean the drain. They said the drain was collapsed, they couldnt do anything else. They said that it had to be excavated and changed. And by chance, they offered that service at a price of $8000.
I paid them for their time. Called someone else to do the water pressure clean out. That was over a year ago, drain is working fine and i didnt have to pay for a big drain repair.
