I moved to a home where the previous owner tried to put in a large garden pond. The pond leaked b/c the proper materials were not used. I purchased a hard mold pond kit that is about 1/4 the size of the existing pond and planned on downsizing it. Will this work?? The original hole was not dug to fit my new little pond and we would be filling in a fairly big hole around it. I'm worried it would not be supported. The origial hole that was dug was lined with a tarp and large rocks were cemented to the sides of the hole.
hi, to downsize for your molded pond your going to have to refill the hole so that your molded pond is level with the existing level of the lawn. As for the rocks cemented around the sides, you have to take them out and completly back fill th hole with soil.
Hi there! You should also double check that your pump is the correct size for your new pond, because they can be pricey to replace. As far as back filling, if you back fill after the pond is leveled with a small granular product like limestone screenings you should be fine. Just install at 2" lifts and wet with water (not drenched) and compact witha hand tamper or a plate tamper. Also if you will be housing any fish remember to always use granite rocks in your pond, not limestone. Limestone will throw off you Ph in the pond and kill your fish.
