Finances will likely not allow a full basement renovation and development at this point (just spent a lot on a deck). However, with the right contractor, down the road will re-hire to finish the work.
Approx 600-700 square foot basement, walk-out lot.
Mostly framed for a bathroom, bedroom, storage/future laundry room, and living area.
- In need of ventilation/duct work (intake vents, bathroom fan and connect to exterior hole, as well as future laundry hole, and in need of a future stove/vent exterior hole to be made). (Basement has dedicated furnace).
- In need of plumbing (for future bathroom, possibly future kitchen and laundry)
- In need of electrical (some outlet boxes placed, need to be wired, some outlet boxes placed for larger appliances, need to be wired. Currently all lights are off a single switch, need to be separated and set up for future lighting. Future cable hook-up, wiring exists but needs to be routed).
- In need of drywalling, taping/mudding. (I can order or do drywall, but not perfectly, and not very good at taping/mudding, so might as well contract it out)
- I have insulation already purchased and on site for sound.
If budget allows, a dropped ceiling.
If budget allows, anything further such as doors, closet, carpeting, flooring, paint, etc.
I originally had budgeted $5,000, can go as high as $10,000 at this point, would prefer to keep costs reasonable as I'm drawing on savings to get at least a bedroom going by Sept/October as we will be moving our newest one into his own room and we'll lose our guest room around that time.
Basement of a 1965 bungalow needs redoing. Location in Malmo Plains, Edmonton. The square footage is just over 1000 sq. ft. Space includes a large family room, laundry room, bathroom, furnace room, and storage spaces. Needs to be reinsulated, bathroom, laundry room redone, new flooring, walls, and doors throughout. Some changes to storage spaces. Electrical needs to be rewired and plumbing inspected and upgraded where necessary.
Develop unfinished basement of 5 year old house.
Solid foundation, no water issues.
Existing Insulation and poly good.
9 foot ceilings.
Approx 1000 square feet.
Family room, two bedrooms, 3 piece bathroom (existing rough-in) to be fully finished.
Partial finishing of laundry/furnace room.
Please advise of years of experience in basement renos, number of completed basement projects, standard per square foot basement reno cost, potential start date of project, and possible time for site evaluation (day-time appointments not a problem).
Our basement is finished but we want to knock out two walls of an existing bedroom and open it up to the rec room. Will need to relocate 4 electrical plugs, 3 light switches and roughed in water lines. The two walls will need to be "capped", ie the wall removed, but the top portion left in place but finished properly so no need to do a ceiling repair. Flooring is not included as it will be completed for the entire basement at a later date. A previous water leak repair has caused the need to repair the drywall on the outside bedroom wall as well as the California knockdown ceiling. This is part of the reno as well.
Also, would like to have a bookcase/photo album shelving constructed around a telepost, if that is feasible.
Thanks
Requesting online estimate.
Background
- Basement is framed, insulated.
- Electrical is being addressed
- Plumbing is partially roughed in for 3 piece bath
- Approximately 570 sq ft to be developed
- House was built in 2004
- Framed for a recreation room, bathroom, and home theatre room.
Requirements:
- Drywall installation/mud/tape (I'd also like my garage drywalled (mud/tape) - two sides and half of ceiling remain)
- Laminate flooring installation throughout (6 mil plastic plus laminate that has underlay attached) - I will supply the flooring
- Suspended ceiling installation
- Paint
- 3 piece bathroom installation, including permit application. (I will supply the sink, toilet, shower)
- Trim installation (3 or 4" mdf or similar)
I want to use the renovation tax credit this year and then complete the rest of the project next year.
Please provide me with an estimate of what work can be completed this year (include timeline), estimates for each line item above, and examples of your work, and an estimate for the total cost.
Thank you.

Hi,
I have a an existing closet with Electrical panel in it. Can any of the electricians advice me, if i can use this space (Closet with panel being 7ft x 7ft) to accommodate fridge and a kitchen cabinate. Basically i am planning on removing the drywall and extending the kitchen into the electrical room.
Finally the electrical room will have sufficient space to access but electrical panel will be part of kitchen. Is this allowed in Edmonton, Alberta.
Please suggest.
Thanks

I was away for the summer and got water damage in my basement. There was some mold damage to the drywall which my son took down but which still needs to be removed. The rest of the drywall needs to be removed as well as the laminate floor and wooden framing as well. Not sure if the ceiling needs replacing. The framing, walls, insulation, and flooring will all need to be replaced. Clean up of mold as well.
