Ciggarate smoke is leaking into our apartment; we have noticed the smell in the bathroom, master bedroom and the living room. we have had the apartment maintainance person over and he caulked certain areas and blocked the hole with some cloth, however the smoke is still leaking through. Can we get a quote to check, advice and insulate our apartment to prevent smoke from entering into our aparment.
NOTE : Though this is a rental unit, we are are willing to pay the expenses for the project
1160 sq. feet in size, bungalow. Age of home is 55 years old.
The attic insulation consists of wood chips, upon which there is a layer of VERMICULITE, and then fiberglass insulation.
The vermiculite has asbestos in it, and needs to be removed.
I need to get a quote for removal of all the current insulation in the attic, plus Re-Insulating the attic with either fiberglass insulation or blown in insulation (whichever is cheaper).
Also, I will need a written certificate after the job is done, that the attic is now Vermiculite/Asbestos free.
Thanks,
Sam
Require a contractor to seal all areas of home where air leakage is occurring (improve airtightness). Homeowner has received the ecoEnergy Assessment Audit by Atco
Work with low expansion foam and silicone to seal all joist headers, entrance/exits of utility lines, furnace, air venting, and cantilever floor - wall connections that project from home. Basement ceiling is suspended tile, not drywalled.
Experience with expansion foam, silicone and ecoenergy program audits is preffered.
Located on the third floor in a five floor, wooden construction, apartment complex. Looking to soundproof (or at least reduce sound) coming from upstairs tenant. Majority of sound emanating from him is foot steps that sound like a herd of elephants stampeding upstairs. Unit size is roughly 900 square feet and can be broken down to 2 bedroom (1 with attached washroom), 1 washroom, combine kitchen and living room, and a storage/laundry room. Looking for rough estimate of project cost to determine how much needs to be saved up.
I am looking at soundproofing the shared party wall of my duplex home in the primary bedroom (wall on the left in the attached photo is to be soundproofed). The shared wall is approximately 14'2" x 8'.
Initial thoughts on solutions include:
- installing insulating panels on the existing wall surface to muffle sound (ideal solution)
- build a false wall in front of the party wall with noise cancelling insulation.
Open to other suggestions. Max budget is around $2,000.
