Kitchen Remodels For Small Spaces

Kitchen remodel

Renovating the kitchen is a valuable project, no matter how large or small your home is. The upgrades and changes made will allow you to be better organized and provide a brighter, more comfortable area to live in. Find out how to design for spectacular small kitchen remodels that will make even cramped quarters shine.

Count Your Blessings

Remember to be content and work with what you have, allowing for the most successful renovation possible. Smaller kitchen remodel projects will be less expensive but deliver the same bang for your buck. You can even spend more money on your dream features, assuming that space permits, and end up with a kitchen that is exactly what you wanted, even if it's not as big as the magazine spread.

A small kitchen remodel may also be a better DIY project than something expansive. Ripping out and replacing small-scale kitchen features, such as cabinets, appliances and counter top, is manageable and allows you to save even more over the cost of the whole operation.

Use Small But Functional Designs

The functionality of your kitchen still needs to be the same as that of a larger kitchen. Placement of the appliances is important to the meal preparation and traffic flow through the room needs be dealt with firmly.

A U-shaped design with the stove or oven at one end maintains the triangle pattern of efficiency between the refrigerator, stove and sink. Galley kitchens are also popular and can be used to give your living space a more open feeling.

Remember that there will be no room for wasted space and no chance of a kitchen island. Eat in kitchens may not be possible, but with the proper planning your smaller kitchen can be ultra efficient, modern and above all, comfortable. Always include plenty of lighting for a brighter, spacious look.

Cut Out the Unnecessary Elements

Spend some time prioritizing the typical elements of a kitchen and decide which you can live without (or possibly scale down for a better fit). Dual sinks are nice, but you won't need a massive farm style. Breakfast bars are also great but if that counter space is better allocated to meal prep you're more likely to have a breakfast that's ready to eat.

Decide which of the elements are important to you and design around those. You may be able to live without a grand pantry, but the inclusion of a side-by-side fridge is a must for you. The greatest thing about remodeling your kitchen is the ability to customize it to your tastes. By all means, splurge on the granite counter tops if that is what you want, but be sure to figure out whether the built in wine rack is necessary or just nice to have.

Always be sure to invest in quality materials, no matter what the size of your kitchen is. Top of the line flooring will leave your kitchen feeling comfortable underfoot and well-built cabinetry will last for years. You can opt for something cheaper - a roll of vinyl flowing or stock cupboards for instance - but may live to regret it. Again, be grateful that your renovation is limited in scope and invest your money where it will have the greatest benefit. That way your small kitchen remodel will be everything you dreamed it to be and more.
