We want to renovate and expand our back deck. We have a vision of what we would like to see and the products we want to use (Trex or similar composite product). Ideally, we would like to have someone come out to the house and see what we are working with before submitting a quote.
We have an existing deck, approx. 16' x 12' that we would like to expand. This would be a multi-level design that will include lighting, pergola with retractable sun shades, gas lines for grill and gas fire pit.
I'm looking for estimates for both frameless glass railings and framed glass railings, and I'd like the posts/aluminum in a dark brown (possibly Rideau) colour.
The deck is L-shaped, roughly 62 feet total. There is vinyl on it, so I would like facia-mounted railings. Hopefully the diagram with measurements (in inches) below comes out properly formatted.
Please give me your product specs and any deck requirements (foundation thickness for securing the railings, etc) along with your estimate. Please also give me an idea of any factors that might change the estimate.
Thank you!

We are looking for a professional deck or carpenter to provide a free quote to repair or rebuild a deck that was done 3 years ago by a hacker. We have a permit to build the deck from the City of Coquitlam. There is mold on the underside of the deck, the water pools on the deck because there is no slope, the previous person put a hole in the deck to drain the water, the stair risers are not the same height and railings on the deck failed the safety code because they are climbable. Please contact me via email.
While painting my deck this summer, I've noticed that at least two of the rim joists have rotted through. The rail posts are bolted to these rim joists. I'm looking for a contractor that can unbolt the rail posts from the rim joists, replace some or all of the rim joists and re-caulk the connections.
Typically, the water drains off the north side of the deck, over the rim joists and into a gutter system. This accelerates rotting of the rim joists and I'm also interested in any additional work that may protect these joists better for the future such as coatings or even composite materials. The deck gutters also need replacing and it would be an added benefit if you're able to subcontract this work.
Can you let me know if you're interested in this work and if you can come to my house in Coquitlam to give a quote? I'd like to select a contractor and start the work as soon as possible.
We have a deck that sits over top a portion of our two car garage (approx 20' by 6'). When we had the sliding door to the deck from the family room replaced about a year ago they noticed the decking (fiberglass or vinyl) had curled and pulled away from the house and so water was getting through to the garage below - we notice stains on the beam below. They sealed the decking and we thought it had stopped the water; however after the last wind and rain storm we noticed the ceiling beam looked wet again.
We need to have someone look at the decking and beam to determine what needs to be done to fix the problem - not sure if it just replacing the decking and sub strata or more.
Replace 13 x 16 foot cedar deck. Deck is elevated approximately 6 feet above ground and connected to the house. A straight run of stairs on one side of the deck leads to the back yard. The railings on three sides are 2 x 4 structure with 2x2 spindles and 2 x 6 cap.
The support structure is 6" posts on sonotube foundations with 2 x 8 stringers and 2x8 joists on 16" centers.
The cedar deck boards have started to deteriorate and we would like to completely replace the decking using either 2 x 6 cedar or composite decking. We would probably replace the stairs and the railings at the same time. The size and configuration of the deck would not change.
Timing of the construction would be sometime between now and next spring.
I'm looking into fully decking our backyard. Currently we have a small deck and bricks that we want gone. We would like a little garden area, a possible wood box built around the gas lines to hide the look of them, but all in all a great enjoyable full size deck for the kids to play on without having to deal with problems we have now with bricks coming loose, the moss growing everywhere.
Presently there is a project out for tender where a land owner is subdividing his property and needs to reduce his 2nd floor deck.
We, a Civil construction company putting together a bid to complete the following portions of the project: lot clearing, service pipe installation, road building, etc. ......are not familiar with structural work.
Part of the tender package includes the following portion in our Scope of Work
"Existing deck to be removed and built back to 0.50M within new property line. Side walls that are under the deck shall be removed to face of house and sides of existing house to be restored to match existing conditions. This includes stucco and painting patched areas."
It presently is above a workshop adition to the house.
It is approximately 24ft wide and extends 16ft from the house. It needs to be reduced to be 24ft wide x 5ft from the house
We do have overview plans for the subdivision work, of which the house and deck are shown but this all the information regarding the actual deck, we have been supplied at this time.
WCB standings, and liability insurance will be required by any subcontractor working on site.
Discretion is requested and expected.
Site Conditions: Fiberglass Sundeck (above enclosed 2-car garage) with 4 drains. Sundeck wraps around kitchen eating area giving it a rectangular U shape. There is at least one crack in fiberglass that is leaking into garage ceiling (surrounded by mold which was bleached). Possibly need to resurface entire deck, replace plywood underneath, and fix any damage in garage ceiling from leaking. We have duck taped the visible crack but that doesn't hold for long. No other repairs to the leak have been done so far there is a four inch hole in garage ceiling drywall now
Square Footage: ~400
Preferred Materials: We want something that is up to code, durable, easy to clean, requires least maintenance, and good for baby to crawl/walk/play.
Age of House: ~ 18 yrs old
Previous renovations: Previous owners built the house and told us they used to maintain fiberglass by reapplying once a year. No maintenance has been done on deck for 4/5 yrs.
Concerns: Damage that needs to be addressed beyond deck repair due to leakage from deck. House exterior is stucco and it seems there are multiple black marks on it due to leakage. Some of the gutter boards around the multileveled roof need to be replaced/repaired. The drainpipes around the sundeck may need to be replaced because of size.
We have a vinyl deck that is in decent shape, but the railings are falling apart. We are looking to re-do the railings. The deck is on the second floor and is about 200-250 square feet. We are looking for ways to make the deck a little more private as we are on a corner lot. We are open to many design recommendations.
We would like to create an extra patio area at the back of the yard that would be approximately 20 x 20 or larger. Paving stone work is primarily what is required. Online rough estimates would be good as a starting point. A budget number is all that is needed for now. Just the basic is needed for now.
I would like to get quotes for a pergola. I would like to have it match my shed. On the top I would like the see through plastic, or corrugated type plastic over the wood 2 x 10’s. It will go from my house fence towards the garden in the side of the backyard in the photo. The pergola will be 24 feet wide for the area that is covered with the clear plastic top. The rest of the area to my shed will have an ope top pergola (no plastic) and attach to the shed.
I hope this makes sense. I would like yo do this asap. I have some materials..
Existing sundeck (see pictures) needs replacing. Currently is ~ 10'8'' across, 9'2" deep from sliding door to back of deck, 5'7" from ground to underside of deck. Has stairs.
We want the deck enlarged 6'-6.5' on one side and 1'8" on the other (can't really increase depth), stair placement changed from existing to either the opposite side or along the back of the deck into the yard Will still be fairly simple deck and stairs, but will need a plan drawn up.
Description of Existing State:
- There is currently a small porch outside the front door measuring approximately 11'x5' and is about 7' off the ground. The face of the porch (and front portion of the rest of the house) is currently done in brick. Running along the brick face is a small landing (6'x4') and nine 36" front steps over about 7' in length. Both the porch and landing are currently covered with vinyl-type product. The face of the steps is currently filled with lattice. The railing on both the porch and steps are made of wood.
Description of Desired State:
- I would like to replace the existing latticework with a brick face to match the current brickwork on the home. The railing, steps and landing will all need to be entirely replaced and the porch will need to be resurfaced.
Remove old deck - measurement 70in x 70in (deck area) with 2 stairs opening each 3ft wide.
Estimated Quote required for pressured treated deck complete with railings and another quote using Aluminium railings.
Description of new deck :
1. Height from house to ground (concrete pad) is 30 inches
2. Length from house to lawn - 10 feet, with a 6 feet opening for stairs to lawn area
3. Width of new deck either 14ft or 16ft (maximum) with a 3 feet opening for stairs (beside the house)
4. Quotes should include :
* remove debris of old deck & clean up the area
* Number of days/hours required to complete the project
* soonest possible start date.

One of the beams on our large deck gave way and we require it to be replaced. Please have a look at our photos. The house was built in 1986 but I'm not sure when the deck was built. We had an event with about 25 people, and many were standing around the area where the beam broke.
We are looking to have the one beam replaced. Please email us with your quotes.
I need to replace a 18 step exterior staircase with an existing metal railing. I would like to reuse the metal railing but need to replace the wooden treads. The old ones are starting to split and crack and would likely need to have the outside stringers(?) also replaced. The steps go from deck to concrete landing pad and are anchored to the landing pad by bolts. They will be subject to rather harsh extremes as we have snow usually in the winter and very hot summers. My deck is a wrapped lino deck and the stairs are affixed to this. I was wondering about a general cost for something like this. I live in Coquitlam B.C and the existing stairs are about ten years old.
Thank you
DJM

A structural engineer has told us the existing deck is rotten except for the cantaleavered (sp?) joists coming from the house. Existing posts were not mounted into the ground.
Optional (please quote separately): cement pad under the deck for storage.
