Development of unfinished basement in 96-year old house. Would like to build a self-contained suite. Aspects of project include replacing old copper plumbing, possible removal of chimney, and pouring cement floor in area of basement which has dirt floor. This is a major project which requires the expertise to develop a sound design plan and manage all phases of a complex project. Owner wishes to take maximum advantage of tax credits for home renovation and energy saving upgrades.
Currently the basement is semi finished. It has a laundry area, workshop and half of the basement has been covered in laminate for an entertainment area. We would like to completey gut the existing basement and create an entertainment room, small bathroom, small bedroom and play area. This would involve new framing, insulation and drywall. The wiring has been updated so all that would be involved was adding some new outlets etc. The bathroom may be the biggest part of the job. Looking for input into the entire space and hoping to have this finished before the fall.
We are going to renovate our unfinished basement and would like an architect / construction firm to draw us a blueprint. We would like to subdivide it into a one bedroom suite and a small office for me. House is built in 1946 and we will need placements of all the drain pipes and wires as we are upgrading them. We plan to start ASAP so we are pretty serious. It's a pretty simple floor plan, total basement floor space is about 800 sq ft. Max budget $1300.
We just purchased our first home and we have a partially finnished 900sqf basement in a house we just bought and were considering turning it into a basment suite as a mortgage helper. The house was built in 1936, however it has been updated recently with new wiring (no nob and tube) and new plumbing. We would like to throw in a kitchenette and turn the bathroom from a two piece (toilet and sink) to a three piece. We do not get posession of the house until The middle of April, and I know you cannot give a quote without examining the basement however i was just wondering if you could give us a non binding, round about figure that it usually costs to finnish something in that range. Once we get posession we plan on begining the renos fairly soon.
Cheers

I am hoping someone can help me with a ballpark figure for the cost of a basement redo. I do not own the house but am looking to buy it. It is approx 1100sqft.it is currently very poorly finished and requires a complete redo from the studs out. Ceiling height is low. about 7'. I would like it to have a master bedroom with ensuite(a bathroom currently exists). Small guest room. Half-bath(just sink and toilet), a laundry/utility room with room for a freezer and some storage and a rec room. Just Basic materials, carpet floors. And we'll ignore the windows because I have no idea what is currently there.
Even if you could give me a general $/sqft price I'd appreciate it. I have no idea and it
Cheers
Dustin
