The contractor did not finish the job he was hired to do and advised me he has shut down his business to deal with his health issues. This review is based only on the work performed before he left me stranded and scrambling to find someone to finish the job (which will now cost more than the contract with him).
I have read the contractor's rebuttal to my review. The rebuttal is self serving and not accurate (either as to why the project was not completed on time or the work that remained to be done.) Another contractor was not called until after this contractor advised he was unable to complete the job. I do not intend to debate the matter further on the Trusted Pro website.
This customer has conveniently forgot to mention the three times this job was stopped mid stream. Once for a week when they went to a wedding in Sault Ste. marie, one week as family were coming for holidays , one week for there trip to europe. Because they think everyone should be at there becken and call there was no access granted to the project to work on it while they were away. if access was allowed the project would have been finished well before health issues arised. There was another contractor called because the customer did not want to wait until my treatment for my health issue was finished. all there was left to do was grout the tile and install a dryer vent to complete the job. I apologise for not being able to finish on the date they requested but you have no control on your health when things arise.
I hired Allan Battlett in February 2017 to complete my basement renovation. He was to finish it for a legal second apartment. To date I have no permit, no drawings and no application for zoning changes. He supplied used materials from other jobs and removed windows without replacing them. Now he isn't responding to emails and has not provided receipts or invoices to verify what I paid for.
When arriving to this job there was massive flooding in the basement. That is what we have been working on. There is also a side enterance another contractor was hired to do who happens to be customers ex husband. Several times it has been requested that I finish the side enterance because its been many months not completed and customer claims she doesnt want him on the property. And several times customer has changed her mind. The last time customer gave us the paperwork to pick up the railings for the side enterance, paper work I still have. When we went to pick up the railings the other contractor had already picked them up. At this point something didnt seem right. I sought advise from my legal counsel and was advised not to get to far into the job before the enterance permitt was closed. We arrived on the job on the last day we were there and after an hour the other contractor [ex husband] arrived and told my helper to pack up our tools. Rather then engage in a conflict he loaded the tools on the truck. Then he was asked for the key by customers son. There were no time lines set out in the contract. The customer text me and said that all comunication has to be by email and no longer by text and I informed her I will be passing on all her emails to my legal counsel. There were no used materials used off other jobs and the pictures the customer took of the windows are conveniently taken from the outside not the inside showing them boarded over. The job didnt start in febuary as the customer was still collecting money to do the job. The contract was done in draw stages and at no time were we paid for more than the draw indicated. At no time did we abandon the job. Access was taken away from us. The customer claims the other contractor[ex husband] is of no concern or involvment but he seems to know all details and amounts of the contract.Once the key was taken back legal counsel advised not to act without going through him. The customer is trying to use trusted pros to tarnish my reputation before any outcome of the situation. Now the customer has publicly made false accusations of used materials etc.
Al and his team rebuild and new paint of our second follow bathroom. It is done on time and well work done. Al is also listen to our needs and provide a good finished product. We will continue to use Al as our contractor for our future works.
I hired Al to tear out previous contractors bungling of creating a waterproof roof for my storage shed under my deck. He completed the job on time, on budget and left a clean worksite. I am now hiring him to renovate my bathroom and eventually will hire him to renovate my entire basement. I finally found a contractor I can trust!
