Disappointed…..Received an invoice near completion that was very confusing, it did not represent adjustments for work not completed in my home, there were pricing changes from the quote/invoice , work not authorized listed as a payable items, items paid for on another invoice still payable, etc . I requested a detailed invoice showing what I was paying as it was very unclear. I received a new invoice 3 week later which was $2400.00 higher than the invoice prior. 2 days after receiving that invoice the contractor removed 2 doors and the drawer from my home that required modifications by the cabinet manufacture. Upon arriving home at lunch to meet the contractor, as he was not working in my home that day ; they had removed all their tools and belongings from my home. I told that all remaining work to be done in my home was now an "extra". Nothing remaining was an "extra" and 2 of the outstanding items were safety concerns. An open electrical permit that was not inspected and natural gas.
I have received 5 different invoices with 5 different totals from this company, each greater in pricing than the next. This contractor claims he made "inadvertent quote errorâ€. He did offer to complete with the suggested condition of a deposit of $5000.00 by way of a certified cheque in advance .ACON Ancaster Contracting contract stated final payment was due on completion, they had not completed.
As I did not comply in fronting the$5000.00 in advance , he did not come back to my home, has not return my property for which I have paid for as per quote agreement nor will he provide permission allowing the kitchen manufacturer to release my property back to me . Mr Kaloe will not return my phone calls or text messages as he once so willing did.
I had to call in my own electrical inspection with electrical safety, which did not pass, so several dates and times for the electrician to come to correct the work done by this contractor had to be arranged. There was a gas tag violation, which had to be corrected by the gas installer, dump runs of garbage, numerous hours spent reconciling his invoices, I had to find a new contractor to complete the job and the list goes on. Not to mention the emotion strain.
I would not refer this company.
My advice...check reviews, and references outside of contractors friends, you need references that are non-bias. Know about the sub- contractors your contractor is using as well. I have spent 7 months picking away at this unfinished project and what a mess. I hope this review will help some else.
Come on Mike Holmes we all need your help in implementing rules and guidelines that governors contractors!
