I hired Gord Chadwick/All Terrain Plumbing to plumb in an outdoor shower at my cottage on Shuswap Lake. He showed up and completed 70% of the job but was unable to continue because he did not have all of the parts he needed to complete the work. I do not blame him at all for that as he didn't know exactly what he was up against and what he would need to complete the job. The work he did do was pretty good but I gave it a two star rating because he did not make good on his promise to complete the work and how he went about doing that.
He promised me he would return to complete the work within a couple weeks, in time for me to have the outdoor shower ready for my first renters who were coming in about 4 weeks. Then, he disappeared and didn't return my phone calls or text messages asking when he was going to return to complete the work. For 3 weeks I waited to hear something and it was only after I left frantic voice-mails, text messages and messages on Facebook saying that I was extremely worried that he had abandoned me when he finally sent a short text telling me that I was on my own and needed to find someone else to complete the work and gave no explanation other than he had too many other things going on.
That was only 6 days before my first renter was due to come in! He could have told me this as much as 3 weeks earlier so I might have had time to find someone else but instead he chose to not respond to my phone calls and text messages until I was right out of time and leave me in a huge lurch. Thanks a lot!
In my view, a person with integrity would have found a way to make good on his commitments or if that was impossible, find someone else who could complete the work and then refer me to them early enough on so I would have a decent chance of getting the work done in time to meet my deadline. He didn't do either of those things. It seems like his plan was just to ignore me and leave me hanging until I figured out that he wasn't coming back and stopped bugging him. He only finally responded to me after I put on enough pressure to get him to respond and tell me what was going on. The guy definitely has decent plumbing skills but based on my experience, seems to be lacking in integrity and morals and doesn't seem to care a lot about his customers' well-being. This may not be true but this is my impression of him. Based on this experience, I can't tell if he has poor character or simply lacks good judgement. Perhaps it's a combination of both or something else, I don't know. Whatever the reason, he certainly handled my situation poorly and didn't seem to care about leaving me in a huge lurch.
My advice is to anyone who reads this is AVOID HIRING HIM!!! If you do hire him, do not trust his word that he will complete the job and cover yourself by making sure he signs a legal contract promising to complete the work he starts and do not pay him before the work is completed.
