I would not recommend Alliance van lines to anyone. Please see the following points which summarize my experience with them.
I have moved multiple times in the past 13 years, 5 across provinces, 3-4 local moves and 1 international move. Unfortunately, this is the worst experience that we’ve had. I can say that I had plenty of moving experiences, I don’t have unrealistic expectations. Here are the things that led to my negative review:
1. On the initial contract, the moving pick-up date was 20-23 June. By 19th of June, it was communicated via an email that pick-up date was moved back to 23 to 25 June. This created many challenges as hotels were booked, cleaning services were booked, and end-of-lease inspection was booked. Unfortaunely I had to rebook everything. This just caused so much unwanted stress.
2. In the email, transit time was mentioned as 5-12 days (very clear). However, there was no mention of the delivery date – which meant more days added on top of the 5-12 days. I wish this could be made a bit more clear. For us, it was another 5 more days on top of the 12 days. (remember, there were 14 days in between the pick-up date and the shipping date as well – so overall, it is more than a month before we actually get our belongings). This was a lot slower than my previous provincial (AB-ON) moves (all delivered within 1 month even during COVID)
3. After delivery, we started to tick off based on the inventory list from the origin – there were missing items (furniture and boxes). This was the first time, after 13 years that our belongings went missing during a move. After 3 days of going through all boxes, we finalized that 8 boxes went missing and a number of small furnitures. Submitted the claim. Waited for 8-10 weeks for processing.
4. Finally, it was mentioned by Alliance van lines that, the email sent back to me stated: “Based on the inventory list that was recorded, I do see that there are only a total of 3 boxes missing. You may have not received the tag number as it may have fallen during transportation, however, the items did arrive and were accounted for”. So far, by opening each box and ticking all boxes on the inventory list, it was found that we were missing 8 boxes. So it’s my words against their words and I just don’t think this is a war worth fighting anymore. My last email read: “ I can confirm that were are missing 8 boxes as we took 3 days to go over everything including opening all boxes before sending the claim. At this stage, I don’t think I have the time to discuss this matter further.”
In summary, I would not recommend alliance van lines to anyone, unless you are having a small move with smaller inventories.
I contracted Alliance van lines previously in 2018, and their performance was much better. However, I would not recommend them to anyone at this stage, it is a company just trying to meet their bottom line without valuing their customers and showing no understanding or empathy.
Seriously great service with these folks. Had moved with them recently from Edmonton to Toronto (GTA). They emailed me a price, and called me after to follow up. The sales person (Nelly) was great to deal with and had offered to take a better look at what needed to be moved. I was happy with that as most other companies were quick to spit out the price and didnt even care what was being moved. We had a painting crated and I was happy with the outcome. The piece came undamaged. I was happy with the customer service approach and overall final price. Deposit was 750 and final price was paid before delivery.
Do NOT use Alliance Van Lines to move your valued possessions. Go with ANY other moving company. Run away from these guys. They're scamming crooks! My elderly mother recently used their company to move from BC to Manitoba. They scammed her out of $577.50. Even though the move was planned for months, they called her 2 days before arrival and claimed that looking at Google Maps shows that they won't be able to fit their 50-foot trailer in the lot, and that she will have to pay an extra $577.50 to 'long carry' her stuff, because they would have to park on the street. It's odd they would only look this up 2 days before, but there's nothing my mother could do since they now had her stuff in their possession, so she reluctantly paid it. They showed up a day late and were able to pull right up to the door without any problems. The driver ensured my mother that there was no 'long carry' involved, and that she would be refunded the additional charge. However, their Operations Manager, Nelly Dales would not refund the money even though a clear picture was provided of the truck parked right up to the door. They're just keeping the money and refusing any explanation as to why. That's theft in my books. On top of all of that, they damaged most of her stuff beyond repair - we had to throw many expensive items in the garbage. After reading other reviews, we realized it wasn't worth our time to claim the damages or anything. We can only try and help others so they don't make the same mistake and use this terrible moving company.
We actually didn't get it so bad compared to other reviews I've read, where people have been scammed out of thousands by these crooks. Once this company has your stuff in their possession, expect the hidden charges to rack up. You're at their mercy once they have your stuff. They know it, and they use it to take advantage of their customers.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY- seriously, heed my warning because I made the mistake of not reading the reviews.
For packing, the guys who came were careless, almost leaving stuff behind as they did not look. They arrived late, and tried to keep pushing the time despite the fact that I kept telling them I didn't have leeway with timing when I had to be done, and were quite rude about it. They didn't have any hanging boxes, but promised they would repack my nice clothing when they got to the warehouse, which they definitely DID NOT do, and instead left it stuffed at the bottom of a box and when it arrived the box was torn and my clothes were filthy. The head guy was rude the entire time, rushing me along - clearly trying to be somewhere else rather than focusing on making sure my stuff was secure
SPEAKING OF ARRIVING- when it arrived half the furniture that they arrived with was broken- my desk, my beautiful dresser, my storage cupboard, my TV, my bed frame,...all had to be thrown out- my glasses were all broken, with almost none surviving- the icing on top of the cake is that they lost a bunch of my boxes. Over 2 months later they came back and said they would reimburse me $50
Seriously do not use this company!
After emailing with Nelly and phone conversations, we paid the $500 deposit for the $784 moving quote from Delhi to Kingston. NO CONTRACT WAS SIGNED.
The quote was based on 1000lbs, but when added an item 2 weeks prior to move, we were told they would only move the 11 items on the list, even though it did not weigh 1000lbs, which is what the quote is based on. Then were told it would be extra to bring the items into unit.
We were not told when we put down our deposit that our items would be unloaded in a warehouse, that they could not provide an address for and reloaded the following day to be driven to Kingston. We were only told the rules as we tried to proceed to the next step. Less than a week after putting down deposit, still 2 weeks away from move, we canceled. As the reviews on the company of extra fees, damaged property ect were not in Alliance favor. After multiple request in email & phone we have been told we are not getting our deposit returned. BUYER BE WARE!!!
I only had boxes to move and over half of them arrived crushed, items broken and a fireplace mantle arrived in 3 pieces. It took over a month to receive my belongings. I also had my vehicle shipped through their contracted vehicle movers, who were great, however Alliance did not relay vital pick up and delivery information to them. The people who picked up my things in Barrie lacked customer service skills as did their affiliated delivery people in Edmonton. The driver was nice but the young guys offloading were very unprofessional. Thankfully I don't have another move planned, ever, but if I ever change my mind, I certainly will NOT use Alliance. BEWARE.
1 month late in delivering our furniture and house contents, 98% of all the NEW cardboard boxes severely damaged with broken dishes and vases inside them. 2 new flat screen tvs wrapped but yet broken, 2 ottomans, damaged beyond any use, guitar amp missing, stainless garbage can severely dented, coffee and end tables dented, chipped and scratched, washing machine, scratched and severely dented, air conditioner electric panel, broken and tapped to hide the damage. Make up table beyond broken, it was SMASHED! Everything had some amount of damage, clearly these people do not care about your furniture, home contents or personal treasures and memories. Im getting sick to my stomach again just sharing this experience!! Do yourself a favor pay a few bucks more and STAY AWAY from these incompetent moving company, use anyone else!!!
Here is a realistic review from a person actually having to deal with this GOD AWFUL company.
First and foremost STAY AWAY. DO NOT ALLOW THEM TO COME ANYWHERE NEAR YOUR HOME.
They will give you a quote that seems pretty reasonable and lower than the other companies (do not listen to them and pay a few hundred more to go with someone else)
Once you agree to choose them (big mistake) they will start off askijg for an $800 deductible. Then they will tell you it will be $0.50 a lb afterwards but they will weigh it once it gets to their warehouse and you'll pay the remainder when it gets to your final destination.
Their quote for a 1 bedroom apartment will be around $1500. What they won't tell you is that there is a minimum weight they will charge you, so if you have less youre still paying out the ass for their service as they will only change the price IF you have a heavier load and they can get away with charging you more.
They will show up, act like they care about your belongings and pretend they will handle with care but what they will really do is throw your belongings around and in my case possible step on some things. They will pick up another load and throw that in there completely destroying everything you own.
They will tell you it will take 3 weeks to get to the final destination, that will be a lie, you will have nothing for over a month. Then when they finally arrive items will be broken and lost and they will just tell you it can be fixed and leave.
When you check everything and tell them how much they damaged you will fill out a form, it will take 12 weeks for then to even respond and after another phonecall you'll receive an email stating that although they destroyed almost $400 worth of items they will reimburse you $50. So not only did you spend $2300 to have this company move you from 1 province to another you're now spending the money to replace the missing and damaged items and they are getting away with being disrespectful and destroying property for $50.
How this company is even still in business is beyond me. They are rude and careless and obviously do not understand the concept of customer service nor care about you or your belongings as they treat everything like it is worthless.
Seriously, go with ANYONE ELSE. These guys are garbage.
Stay away from this company. They take no care of your items and do not accept responsibility. They lost 13 boxes of my father's treasured items and tried to tell me they only lost 3 boxes and offered $50. There was $1000's lost in my dead mother's china alone. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.
