Mike Murillo signed a contract with us to finish our basement without toilet, no bed room, just a plain rec. room for $14,500 on Nov 28, 2018. The basement sq is approximately 400. According to the contract and plan, he was supposed to finish on Jan 15, 2019. However, he kept on postponing the date till Feb 19,2019. He got all majority of the money and the amount we owe him his approximately $500. I guess, we were lucky as he returned some flooring that we had purchased with our credit card, so $500 came back to my account. Total amount owing him is approximately $1000. Anyways, he didn't honor the job finishing date. We modified the contract to make him finish on time, but he refused to sign it because we had written that "$200 will be deducted on everyday he is late to finish". On the day we gave him the contract to review, he removed all his tools from my house, and never signed nor finish the job. We got him to come back and extended the job a week, he's still not done till date. There is electrical job left, stairs to be carpeted, painting, and all doors carpentry.
I guess we hired the wrong person, even with a signed contract that binds us.
I don't know, if this is worth going to a small claim court in Edmonton for.
We called the electrician " Patel", he said that Mike told him not to finish the electrical job because he only paid him for the initial roughing, and we've giving him all the electrical fee according to his schedule plan.
He has refused to call nor pick up our phone.
People, pls beware, do not hire small business owners.
Mike contacted me via kijiji when I posted that I need a contractor to complete my basement.
People, pls. Stay away from MIKE MURILLO.
He left all the garbage, and we had to clean up all his mess, and cleaning up was part of the contract.
He comes to the house at around 3-4pm, leaves my house at 9pm without doing anything.
He was really bad, we've given him so much when we realized and we couldn't pull back, hoping he will just finish and leave.
