Steve Francis and his company Aspire renovations are very incompetent. He initially comes across as knowledgeable and professional but as the project moves along it was very clear that the work he was completing was sub standard. It was a part time job for me to ensure work was being done properly because he was caught cutting corners. Do not pay this company till work is complete and definitely hold back funds until his worthless warranty timeline expires.
We had Aspire come in and replace my structural wall with a beam. They were great to work with. They are very knowledgeable and worked fast but did the job right. They kept the work are clean which was great and very helpful to my family. The finished product looks great. We are having aspire come in and do our windows in a couple weeks and we are not worried at all.
We are so pleased with the work that Steve and his team did in our kitchen/family room, that we are now having them complete a full renovation on our main and ensuite bathrooms. Our original plan for the ceiling was to have it scraped and painted (hated the popcorn original to the 1972 ranch). When it became evident that this was not going to work well; Steve suggested drywalling over the existing ceiling. Moe, who did the work, was a true professional and was not happy until the job was perfect. He came back to fix a few hairline cracks once the area had dried. The result is that the ceiling looks like it was always that way and not a reno job. The backsplash tiling went very smoothly too, with the tile setter making suggestions that made a real difference in the finished look - very contemporary.
Steve insists that only the best people work for him. When something isn't "quite right", he makes sure that it gets fixed and that the customer is happy. We are very happy with the result!
We hired Aspire Renovations to do a small kitchen renovation during the summer. Prior to the start of the project, Stephen Francis, Contractor/Owner was genuine and comprehensive on what we were looking for for our budget. With few minor logistics problems on his side, we finally received the updated and signed contract after waiting several weeks.
During the project, we started to realize that his team (maybe himself too) was cutting corners, delaying their work for few days, mis-communicating within his team and us, executing some tasks illogically (i.e. putting an unnecessary, visible seam on the schlulter), and arguing that the project was done when it clearly was not. There were a few unfinished tasks, that were previously agreed upon. It turned out that the project took more than 2 months instead of 3-4 days because they had to redo the walls a few times (they agreed that they had done a mediocre job), and he took other projects at the same time knowing that there would be a scheduling conflict.
Overall, the Aspire Renovations team is a joke. Managed by Stephen Francis, the project took so long that we decided near the end to let Steve go, leaving the project unfinished. Lack of honesty, empathy, business management skills, and not respecting the timeline, Aspire Renovations shouldn’t take on any other renovation projects if it’s how they treat their customers.
In response to your rebuttal:
Thank you Steve for your reply. We definitely want to ensure sure that your company, Aspire Renovations, is on the right track of success. Without hiding our unfortunate experience, we feel that our opinions/recommendations could be a great way for you to keep improving as a contractor and provide better outcomes for both parties. All the best.
With any growing company, you have to expand your sub trades and take on new employees and unfortunately not all work out for the best. Ever effort was made to rectify this situation and complete the project to the clients satisfaction. The offer was made to remove the tile trim in question, but Lisa Tennant did not want this done. She agreed the shluter trim did not need to be removed but the joint could have been positioned in a more thought out way. Alternatively we offered this client a full discount of the cost of the trim and additionally, the cost of the tile work, which was happily accepted by the client.
We do agree the project took more time than we initially predicted due to many different reasons; some were the responsibility of Aspire Renovations and some due to the client supplying the material (these being either the wrong items needed or not enough of the material). The comment made by Lisa Tennant that we had taken on other jobs is simply not true as we do not discuss ones clients project with any other clients.
With every project we take on, quality of service and quality of work is paramount. If something is not right then we do are up-most to make it right. We invite all readers to please look at all other reviews to get a better understanding of the service we provide. We welcome all comments and will grow and learn from this experience.
Stephen did a great job of re-building our basement staircase, located in a steep area with a low ceiling. He was prompt, polite and professional and his work done very well. I would highly recommend him!

It was a pleasure working with you grant and we look forward to working with you again in the future.

I liked the effort put into the demob of the tile, it was challenging. We didn't like all the dust, all efforts were made to minimize it. We liked the tile pattern installed. One tile has lifted with cracked grouting, should be easily repaired. The wood stairs look great and were installed with care and showed thought for the pattern. There are a few areas the end pieces of wood floor have separated, Aspire will look into this. I am not sure why this has happened. We have transition pieces yet to install.
Overall looks good, I have a few pictures attached.
Thanks Steve,
We really enjoyed working on this project with you, the materials and colours you decided on were a great choice.
it looks fantastic. Exited to get back once we have all the finish pieces on back order and wrap this one up.
Regards,
The Aspire team
Steve Francis and crew did a great job of replacing my shingles several years ago. Not being my area of expertise, Steve was gracious enough to come by a couple of times afterwards to answer my questions/tweak any outstanding tasks. Great service and I'm happy to recommend him to others.
I have hired many companies to renovate my home in the last five years; I can honestly say that Steve's crew at Aspire were tops! Respectful of the noise factor, kept the area clean as could be reasonably expected, moved a lot of furniture out of the basement and back in without any complaint! I would definitely hire them again and have no reservation in giving them an excellent review. Sincerely, Lynn S.

Aspire Renovations has received complaints from their suppliers and/or creditors
Complaint: Stephen, the owner of Aspire has proven to be extremely disorganized and lacks the level of communication necessary to facilitate smooth completion of a job. As a painting company, working for Aspire, I can say that every one of Stephen's jobs we have worked on has been disorganized and behind. We have been on numerous jobs that should have taken us days that have gone on for weeks due to poor communication, material not being on site, lack of proper sequencing and Stephen not being fully aware of whats going on on his own job. Plus Steven does not pay his contractors as he agrees. He makes excuses not to pay on-time.
These numerous issues listed above have led to Stephen being locked off a particular job, and left unpaid. Although our payment contract was with Aspire, and we had completed 90% of the work (the last 10% that couldn't be completed because locks had been changed) Stephen has not paid us, and has not adequately communicated how he was planning on resolving the issue. I had submitted an invoice on January 22nd, giving Stephen ample time to communicate with us and propose a resolution. It is now April 8th and I have been left no choice but to proceed with legal action.
