I hired Bartletts to build a basement apartment. They were very helpful with the entire process they even helped with the layout to create a bright open concept unit. The quality of work was excellent and they cleared up the site everyday before leaving. They were very accommodating whenever I had questions. I will be definitely hiring them again when I renovate the rest of the house in the spring.
Price seemed fair. Started job, had a few hiccups. Paid up almost all except final inspection total. Was supposed to have glass ordered for bathroom shower. Just found out never ordered. Almost a month since was last here. Will not answer calls respond to text. Seems to have gone MIA. Do not use this company. Seemed nice said all the right things but does not follow through with work. Also takes 3 weeks to respond only after a review is put up. Did not know about outstanding money. No permits were needed except for electrical which he pulled. Went to building department and inquired said I didn't need for redoing kitchen as no structure was changed. I am using kitchen. But still cannot use shower in bathroom. This was started nov. Dosen't take 3 months. Sorry but still no excuse.
Update on contractor. Did not ever say there was outstanding on anything. Sure the other contractor did not service as well as he should. He also told me that he was going to call lindsay glass and see if the order was ready. I called have no such order. So to say surgery. Another excuse, is why he never responded. Just like truck broke down and took him 8 days. No permit was needed to do the bathroom or kitchen as there was no structure change. I went and confirmed at city. One was not needed. The other contractor did not pull a permit on electrical. I did not know about this until bartlett brought them in. Unfortunately took me to do this to at least respond. Now need someone to come fix and finish this job. We have been very patient while this was going on. Work for 2 hrs here and then 4 hrs bringing his kids while working. Not wanting a passing contest but we are not the problem. I'm sure there was other jobs. But when it was started in Nov and still not finished end of Feb when he went MIA.
This is a job that was taken over from the previous contractor. As you can see from the pictures showing what we walked into and how it is now. I don't know what glass company this customer is calling. The shower glass is in my possession. Right off the start the bathroom fix was delayed a month because the customer never had the tiles to finish and it took them time to get the tiles. The kitchen upstairs was in shambles. Wrong size cabinets etc. They were a bunch of end of line cabinets and what ever was left at Ikea store where the previous contractor bought them. We juggled things around and made it work. There's bottom and top light trim and a fan install left to finish the kitchen. The customer makes it sound like they can't use their kitchen to play victim. When we brought our electriton in to do cupboard lighting it was discovered the previous contractor did the wiring in the kitchen . No license and no permit and done wrong. Our electrician had to rip it all out get the permit and redo all of it right back to the panel. A 1500 dollar extra charge to fix it. Still outstanding. Then it was discovered there's been no permits taken out by the owner or previous contractor. This whole job before we came along was being done under the radar by both parties. The customer is not a victim of anything.. They need to hire an architect to get plans done apply for the necessary permits and have the necessary inspections done to make sure the plumbing etc done by previous contractor was done up to code. By the example of the electrical I highly doubt it's done properly. The job can not continue until then. As far as not getting hold of myself there were some issues which resulted in surgery. I was released this morning and was catching up on messages when arriving home. So basically get the necessary permits and inspections to proceed. This puts up a red flag of why the original contractor left. Other than the fact they were fly by night and did very bad work. And there is a permit required as there was changes made in basement framing by previous contractor and there was plumbing done. Obviously when the customer inquired about getting permits all the information wasn't given to the building department.customer has no idea how bad the previous work really was. The drain in the shower alone was filled solid with thinset and grout. As for time line I guess he wanted a quick slap up fix which would have ended in most of the issues still being a problem.as for my children I only have one child and he came to work with us on Saturdays to start learning the trade and earn money to pay for gad in his dirt bike. I guess the customer doesn't believe in teaching responsibility. My other two employees are young men working full time. I guess when painting such a small area we should have sat around the rest of the day and had tea and crumpets with the customer watching paint dry.
Imagine a contractor that keeps fair prices, works hard, and promptly returns phone calls. Imagine a contractor that shows up on time, cleans up the work site every day before he leaves, and does meticulous, quality work. Imagine a builder whose final bill is the same as his quote. And Imagine a builder that is responsive, courteous, and friendly and says when he's done "just call me if you need me to come back and fix anything."
This was my experience with Al Bartlett. We hired him to do a reno on our bathroom. We kept adding things to the original job, some in other parts of the house but he was very helpful in getting them done for us and at a reasonable price. I highly recommend him.
I was preparing my home for resale in the near future. Al fully renovated my kitchen with new cabinets, counters, built in appliances, tile floors, backsplash and painting. He was on schedule and on budget. Carpets throughout the house were replaced with hardwood or tiles. I received many compliments on the quality of workmanship. Two bathrooms were fully renovated with beautiful tilework and cabinetry.
Numerous painting and repair jobs were done when called, quickly and budget-friendly.
A beautiful, larger new deck was installed, sturdy and reasonably priced.
While the renovations were going on, major house foundation issues cropped up during the spring thaw. These issues were addressed shortly after I called, which limited any damage to the inside of the house.
I was very relieved to have found a professional company with a good work ethic, fair prices and genuine customer concern.
Can't thank Al Bartlett enough for the fabulous job he did on both our bathroom reno and front porch reno. As we wanted, he took the bathroom back to the studs, removed the tub and replaced it with a large walk-in shower complete with marble tile walls.. He installed a new porcelain floor, vanity, linen closet, toilet, fixtures and finished with paint. Fabulous job!! He also did a wonderful job on our front porch. He took it from a small, crumbling cement porch to a stunning 7 x 10 ft deck with glass railings. Reasonable priced, quality work and easy to work with. Highly recommend Bartlett and Bartlett Construction.
