STOP! Read before doing business with Basements Kitchens Bathrooms Contractors or Shay David.
He has taken $40,000 from us and left our house in pieces after verbally abusing us.
We hired this company to renovate our entire home excluding the family room and the basement. At the time we signed the contract we were told the entire job would take 6 weeks. During this time and as part of the contract we agreed to pay weekly installments of money to help Shay offset costs over the 6 weeks.
Our project started on December 10th and was scheduled to be finished January 18th, 2013. We were told at the time of signing that the guys will be working through Christmas and that all guys on site are employees of BKB Contractors. To our surprise the guys worked 4 days out of two weeks over Christmas and they were all subcontractors not employees. Even though the guys were taking so much time off, Shay still asked for money. He told us not to worry that everything will be done and started asking if he can renovate our basement.
As the New Year came, and we were over 4 weeks into the job we started to get concerned as our house was torn apart and it looked like there was no end in sight so we asked Shy what was going on. Once again he told us not to worry and asked again about getting our basement and wanted a deposit. At this point I said that we are waiting on our basement based on the delays of the current job. Well, this is where thing really went bad. He started talking to me like I was garbage and told me I was holding off on our basement to punish him. Really?!
From here things went from bad to worse. He became condescending and threatening in his attitude and started using profanity. He started asking for more and more money even though it was not scheduled in our contract. He started threatening to pull his guys off our project if he didn't get more money. Finally on Thursday January 23rd he really lost it. I was in meetings all day and my daughter was taking abusive texts and phone calls from Shay to a point that he threatened her. She got so scared that she called home to my 14 year old grandson that was home alone and told him to lock all the doors and not let anyone in. She also spoke to the project foreman who was on site and asked him to keep the doors locked and protect our son. Apparently from what my grandson and the foreman has told us, Shay arrived at the house banging on the front door then when he didn't get a response he came around back and was hitting the glass door so hard he almost broke it. When the foreman finally answered the door Shay pushed and got physical with the workers and threatened to call the police on them if they didn't get their tools and leave. Out of respect for us and our home, they left.
Following this we called our lawyer, who attempted to talk with Shay. Shay was abusive to him, used profanity and hung up on him twice. Shay told him that he is a joke and not a lawyer. Our lawyer was not amused.
Our home was left with no flooring, nails sticking up so our kids and dogs cut their feet, no paint on the walls, wires hanging from the ceiling, plastic everywhere and one out of three bathrooms working. He didn't protect our home when he moved our furniture and appliances and we now have to replace hardwood in our living/dinning room due to gauges and scratches. We have to repair walls that didn't have a problem before he arrived, not to mention that we have had a bin and a storage unit in our driveway since the beginning of December.
This has been a nightmare, one that you think only happens to other people.
We have since discovered that he has done business under the name of Sam David and/or ProRen Home Improvements and he is in no way affiliated with the Better Business Bureau.
