If you are wise, you will stay away from Calgary Bath and Home Renovations. Chris and Al are a father/son duo who run this company. They can talk the talk, but when it comes to skill and knowledge, they most certainly did not walk the walk.
The only saving grace was the fact the men they hired to do the plumbing, electrical and tiling really were great.
However, the basement bathroom was not sanded, finished and painted properly. There were obvious spots where it wasn't sanded properly, and many spots where there was no paint applied at all. When we pointed it out, Chris said "we will make it perfect" but most certainly did not. While we were still dealing with this, work had begun on the upstairs bathroom.
The man they hired to do the demo and framing of the shower area made a hole in the wall in our bedroom (it is on the other side of the shower) as well, the framing was not installed properly. So, when the tiler came and installed the tile on that side, it was glaringly obvious that the wall behind the tile was indented, because the tile looked crooked. When we pointed it out, they threw the tiler under the bus, even though we thought it looked crooked ahead of time.
He was in such a hurry to put in our vanity, that he and a worker put it in over the newly tiled floor BEFORE it was grouted. So under our vanity there is no grout still. We would damage our expensive vanity if we wanted that fixed.
He also didn't care if the wall behind it was covered with mud that hadn't even been sanded, let alone painted.
By now, the son (Chris) was telling us that he didn't like being "micromanaged" --when all we were doing was ensuring the work we paid good money for was done right! When my husband tried to talk about our displeasure with the way the walls were looking upstairs, he didn't want to hear about it.
Not to mention that a 3-4 week quote actually took SEVEN weeks. To renovate a bathroom. The basement one took longer than quoted as well.
They sent a boy from a painting company to finally paint the upstairs bathroom, and it looked positively terrible. We ended up having to take everything out (mirror, lights, accessories) and refinished the walls, and painted ourselves. We did that in our basement, too.
The final straw with them was the fact they took the wooden jam out of the basement to make the oversized window fit. We discovered this against code installation after we fired them (they were supposed to install the new windows but we no longer trusted them)..the professionals we were fortunate to get told us that all that was holding the window in place was calking and spray foam. Sure, you have to use that to keep it from leaking and to seal it properly. But there was nothing else holding it in place due to the removal of the wood jam. The other basement window that we paid for already couldn't be installed, because it was too large as well. Now we have to pay to replace both windows and to have the one re-done.
In our opinion, these men shouldn't be in the home renovation business, and we're so glad we rid ourselves of them when we did, to prevent loss and damage down the road from their total lack of competence. Stay away from Calgary Bath and Home Renovations, if you know what is best for you.
