It seems like I'm not the only one who had a problem. I had actually had Murray come and do an estimate for some insulation work prior to the company being sold to Jason. I didn't realize until well into the job that it had been sold 3 months prior to hiring Jason. He was installing a backdoor for us, which required knocking out a portion of brick wall. It started like everyone elses story, money up front to cover initial costs. When he finally got around to cutting a hole into our wall, he assured me he had a permit. The red flags were already up, so I called the City and sure enough, no permit was on record. Turns out he hadnt even applied for it like he was supposed to. When I confronted him about this, he got defensive that I shouldn't be digging my nose into this because he had a special relationship with the building inspector. I halted work until he got the permit, which of course takes up to 6 weeks. He then disappeared for several weeks without returning phone calls, text messages, or emails. When he finally got around to doing the door installation, he didnt double up the vertical studs, which I know to be a code requirement and it was part of the permit as well. I agreed to complete the interior finishing touches because I knew I could do it. After he disappeared again (the job still wasn't done), I doubled up the exterior studs from the inside of the wall myself. In order to get the last part of the job finished, I had to tell him that I would be filing a complaint with the BBB and the City about the problems. He then returned and did a half-arse job of completing the project. Now, the door leaks air, isn't perfectly straight or level, and the repaired bickwork looks horrible.
I am sorry to hear Cathy's tale of horrible workmanship, but I have one of my own with this so called contractor. My family member needed to have a bathroom finished within a week and Jason said that he could do it. He was paid $2500 before he began doing the bathroom. Jason showed up for 45 minutes the first day and then was a no-show for 3 more days. After many unanswered phone calls my brother went to his house to see where he was. He made up poor excuses and my brother wanted his money back. He refused and now it appears to be another rip off by this pathetic excuse for a "handy man". Everyone who reads these reviews should not use this company. There are many better and more trustworthy contractors out there.
I have never been so disgusted by how badly Jason Morfopoulos has ripped me off. I payed for materials up front, then payed 20% at drywall stage. Jason will claim to be a jack of all trades, but I assure you, he has no clue how to install tile, they were all crooked and one higher than the other, the tube was installed incorrectly
Bauman Restorations was bought this spring by Jason Morfopoulos, there is no more "Murray Bauman" so any past work done by this company was not done by the present owner. Jason was to do a concrete walkway for us, well, two walkways. He wanted half the money up front, then didnt show up the next day when he was supposed to start. Repeated phonecalls over the next two days went unanswered. He finally called back and said he would start the next Monday. When he showed up with nothing more than a sledge hammer we knew we were in trouble. He and a part time guy broke the walkway with sledge hammers , then threw some 1 inch stone into the walkways and announced he was done and wanted to pour the cement ( I had told him I would pay no more money until the job was done) He had used 2x4's to form the walkways, then added the stone....me , being a female even knew that 1-2 inches of concrete was not right....I questioned him, he became beligerant telling me none in 16 yrs had ever had a problem with his work blah blah blah but did say code was 3 inches. Oh, did I mention he wanted another $300 after the first day of work? So, he left, he left piles of broken concrete all over my lawn (they had been left on the grass for 3 days), stone that has to be removed a pile of dirt and some unused stone, He and his part time guy worked a total of about 15 hrs here, and walked off with $1300 of my money. He actually told me (during a not so nice conversation) that one of the big excavating companies here that had contracted him "screwed" him out of $13000, oops...would that have been a second complaint in all his years??
Anyways, long story short, we told him that if he came and cleaned up his mess we were willing to call it a wash ( I figured that $1300 for roughly 15 hrs work was very good money) We have never heard from him again.. So now, its not a wash, its ripped off!
