At first, like most people, I checked reviews before booking with Bronte Movers for our move in April 2016. I read some negative reviews but also some positive ones, so I thought… sure, let's use them, there’s no way we’ll have any problems!
Boy was I wrong.
The crew showed up on time and was very courteous - we had a team of 4 guys for our move. The team was very quick and friendly, we got along with them quite well.
After everything was moved into our new house, us & all but one mover were in the kitchen. The other guy was in the bathroom. We offered them all a beer (not the driver) and enjoyed it with them while the paperwork was being completed. We told them we were happy with their service and tipped them a good amount. While this was happening, we heard the one mover who hadn’t joined us in the kitchen close the bathroom door and leave the house - we didn’t think much of it at the time as it was a long day and we figured he was tired.
When the paperwork was done, we signed it and they all left. Shortly after they pulled away, my husband wanted to quickly use the bathroom before helping me unpack. He walked toward the bathroom and his feet got wet. There was water all over the floor, coming from under the closed bathroom door. He went into the bathroom and realized the toilet had overflown, the guy who’d been in there previously had also left his moving gloves on the vanity beside the sink.
While I was grabbing towels, my husband snapped a couple of pictures. He mopped up the water and I went into the basement to check the ceiling. Sure enough, there was water dripping from the ceiling of our newly-finished basement! Once the water was cleaned up off the bathroom floor, my husband drilled holes into the ceiling to let the water escape (I recorded it). The amount of water that poured through was unbelievable.
After finishing the cleanup, we’d called Bronte Movers - they were closed at the time as it was late (after 8pm), but we’d left a message. Nobody called us back the next morning, so my husband called again.
I have to say, we’ve never spoken to someone more condescending and rude before. They refused to take ownership of the problem and said that they’d spoken to their guy and he said he didn’t do it. Of course he’s not going to admit to overflowing a toilet and leaving without the slightest attempt at cleaning it up, or even giving us the heads up so that we could clean it up. Instead, he left it and gave it lots of time to leak through the floor and down into our basement.
They didn’t take ownership of the problem. They turned around and said it’s not their fault that we have bad plumbing and that we need to go after the previous owners of our house. We had a plumber come through that same day though and he confirmed that there was no issue with the plumbing. Of course we’d have gone after the previous owners of the house if that were the case - it would have been the easier thing to do.
After that, they began to ignore our phone calls.
We did get our lawyer involved. She was dealing with someone named Chris - the same rude man we had spoken to over the phone. He claimed we were lying and refused to come to any sort of agreement. She was only asking for $500 to put toward the repairs of our ceiling. I had been holding off on writing my review until we knew for sure whether this would be sorted out with them or not. Now that I know they won’t budge, I have taken it upon myself to make sure that everyone knows how terrible they are. I intend on posting this same review everywhere possible.
Our issue is that it was negligence on behalf of the guy who watched the toilet overflow and did absolutely nothing about it… and it’s a sign of a horrible company that they don’t own up to problems that they caused.
We spent thousands of our hard earned money on our move that day, and had to pay out of pocket for damage they caused to our house.
DO NOT USE THIS MOVING COMPANY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE!
