I hired Burlington Contracting to complete a renovation of my rec room after it encountered some water damage. I was extremely pleased with the quality of workmanship and the professionalism displayed. The job was much more involved then originally anticipated. Mark met with me and we discussed the job at length. I would recommend Burlington contracting and would hire them again to complete my home renovations.
Thanks Lucy Glad we can be of service.
For our small basement bathroom renovation (11 ft by 8 ft), we hired Burlington Contracting. The actual name of the business is Burlington Contracting and Investment and Import and Export Inc., and we have since learned this business name was only registered in August, 2012.
The work on our basement bathroom renovation began on November 14, 2013. By December 16, 2013, the project, which was to take two weeks to complete, was still in the drywalling stage. Muro Mark (actual name is Murat Caglin) of Burlington Contracting promised the job would be completed before Christmas.
At this point the bathroom was nowhere near completion, and we had already paid out $12,020. We were compelled to stop the project because we had number of concerns and complaints, including Muro not being able to produce a comprehensive project plan (despite MANY requests for one), numerous instances of not following what had been agreed to as far as layout, and poor written and oral communication with Muro that resulted in time delays and much frustration.
The images below show what Muro completed after four weeks and $12,020 in payment: roughed-in electrical and very roughed-in drywall. NO shower, NO tiling installed, NO vanity installed, NO toilet installed, NO doors, NO laundry sink installed. Not even our washer and dryer was put back in its place. The last time we spoke to Muro in person, on Dec. 16, 2013, about the costs, he yelled at us that he does not keep receipts and would not be able to provide information about the project’s costs.
Here are some excerpts from the BBB complaint we filed against Burlington Contracting. We encourage you to go to the BBB site and get the full accounting of this project (mwco.bbb.org). The complaint’s status is “unresolved.†We are now taking our case to the Ministry of Consumer Services.
1. At the very first visit to quote on the project, we asked Muro if he could complete this project by Christmas and he said “yes.†By the time we stopped the project, he claimed to have no knowledge of any timeline for it.
2. During demolition, Muro and his crew only took down half the drywall in the room. When we insisted that it all be taken down as per the quote, Muro wanted to charge an additional $500 on top of the $1,500 quoted for that part of the project.
3. After repeated requests to Muro to produce a project plan, he asked us – his client – to draft one up. We spent hours itemizing all the work to be done and the materials to be used. Despite that, Muro did NOT appear to follow this plan at all; in fact, many of our requests were disregarded and no explanation was ever provided unless we asked Muro directly. The description of the project that Muro eventually supplied was poorly written, hard to understand, and full of errors.
4. Despite telling us that he would be use a licensed plumber and electrician to complete the plumbing and electrical work, once the project began Muro told us he would be doing all the work himself. We made repeated requests for proof of certification and licensing needed to upgrade the electricity and plumbing. When Muro failed to provide this we insisted on bringing in a licensed contractor for the electrical and plumbing. Muro has made this his central excuse for the delays in the project, but in fact it caused only a two-day delay, and it was because Muro had to find licensed tradespeople to come in to do the job.
5. After having to break up the old concrete floor to rough in the new plumbing, the new concrete was not properly poured. It is now crumbling and uneven around the area where the toilet is to be located.
6. We had requested the installation of a pocket door between the bathroom and laundry room. Muro claims to not have been aware of this fact until Dec 13, 2013, when in fact it had been noted in our emails and verbally with Muro on several occasions and is noted in his original estimate.
Susanne & John,
It is very unfortunate that both of you decided to terminate the contract due to "time concerns". I have tried to make you both happy to the best of my ability and in good faith. I wanted to leave 2013 with a positive and excellent completed renovation and head towards the new years. I also trusted you both and started the job and completed the renovations without any payment.
You are indeed correct about the renovation(s) start date of being November, 14, 2013 but I would like to remind you of all the problems you husband John has caused through out the time you were not available. The numerous emails he sent me. If you remember when he stated that the job has to be on hold until everything is resolved and that you both have to look over the contract, information etc., This mishap costed approx. 2 weeks and delayed the project. This was not my fault. That two weeks was valuable time to move forward with the renovations and I lost time. We had the demolition just about complete when this happened. Also because of this mishap I had to take on another project because it is getting close to holidays.
Upon agreeing with pricing, contracts, information etc with yourself, John and I you allowed us to proceed with the renovations and provide our services to you. Before this your husband John gave me a cheque for $1,500.00 for services rendered when he put the hold on the job because he did not wish to proceed with me and I did not say anything.
You did not ask me for a timeline until this past Friday.
My work is just about complete. You are making things very difficult to proceed. I have approx. 6 days left to complete the project. It's also not reasonable for you to be doing this so close to the completion of the project. I did not breach the terms of the contract but in fact you did by terminating the contract for no justified cause.
Also you are stating some nonsense about reporting Burlington Contracting to the Canada Revenue Agency claiming fraud for not having applicable taxes on a "Quotation". It is a quotation there is no tax # on it. The invoice which would have been provided towards the end has the applicable taxes presented. The agreed upon Quote was attached to the contract.
To also clear up the paid monies here; You have paid me $12,020.00 to this date. You did not pay me $12,220.00. If we deduct the taxes owed from the $12,020.00 then the total monies paid would be $10,638.00 to date for services rendered. My sum of services rendered to this date is approx close to $13,500.00. Your projects total with HST would have been $18,419.00.
I will gladly still complete the project with ease and customer satisfaction if given the chance. If we put these things aside and continue forward. This is the second time the project is been on hold.
Let me know your thoughts and concerns.
Thank-you,
Burlington Contracting & Investments Inc
Burlington Contracting
P.S Don't leave this nonsense on my business page again. My services were not complete you guys cannot make complains on work completed concerns before finished.
This is the second project Burlington Contracting has done for us. The first was to determine why our tub was not draining properly. The problem was two-fold but the gist of it was that the pipes in our older home were too small, the pea trap was nonexistent, thus the pipe was clogged. Muro did a beautiful job replacing the old pipes and all is working great now. On this project, my husband had removed a defective older toilet but we were faced with some pretty sketchy looking plumbing beneath it. Again, Muro came on short notice and made the repair in record time and at a very reasonable price point. Would happily use them again for future repairs or renovations!
I contacted and hired Muro to help with a condo I wanted updated before sale. No work had been done in decades and my budget was not large. Muro and his team did a great job working to update every part of the condo and came in only slightly over budget after some problems were discovered behind the old walls. The time to complete the project went long but at the beginning I had let them know I was not on a timeframe and he could take as long as they want. Some materials were on site and he was able to use what was available and provide beautiful modern materials where needed. In the end the work was of great quality and I couldn't be happier. In all I had complete renos of two bathrooms, two bedrooms, a kitchen and new floors and wall/ceiling painting throughout in three weeks. What's even better, he came back afterwards to fix something that I had forgot to mention to him and even said to give him a call in the future if I had any concerns. Him and his team were professional and friendly. I will definitely call him for my future needs.
We employed Burlington Contractor to renovate 2 full bathrooms. Each of these was demolished and totally renovated by Muro and his team, with the exception of the existing cabinets. The demolition was completed very quickly and the total project was completed in a reasonable amount of time. We sometimes found communication to be challenging but Muro always made a concerted effort to be sure of what we wanted. We are very happy with the quality of the workmanship and appreciate the fact that he remained within the budget. Thank you for a job well done.
I posted a job to fix/replace a piece of siding that was missing at the very top of my townhouse. Awarded the job to Muro and Burlington Contracting on Thursday and it was fixed on Friday. Can't beat the quick service and the communication was also very good. Muro did a great job caulking and ensuring we'll have no leaks down the road. Thanks guys and if I need any further work like this done, I won't hesitate to get in touch with you.
Hello Garth any time thanks for choosing our service
Burlington contractor are not professional  people.
First day of there job i gave them a security deposit.
They did tiles in my bathroom which were all  wrong, that have to be redone.
The next day they come in try to fix the tiles, and the manager replaced  my facet. He contacts me , that he needs the full amount right now anther wise he will stop the work.
I told i will pay once get home and hopefully the job is done by that time.
He stops the work, take out the facet which he installed take out the valves which i had there before.
All the water was shut off in the whole building because he took the valves out.
I had to contact plumber to install those valves, so the superintend  can turn on the water for the building.
I will never recommend Burlington contractor to anyone.
HI Abdul,
When I first visited your home I told you I cannot do it for the price you asked... You said please and that you urgently needed it done because you had Guests coming over soon etc, I said Okay Ill do it. On one condition "I NEED THE MONEY UPFRONT" The reason I told you that was because you told me the previous contractor that started the bathroom renovation left mid way into completing it. The reason of that would only be because of Failure to Pay. Thats why I said money upfront so that I wouldnt be stuck without a payment after job was completed. You promised you would and I agreed. First day we started you handed over a deposit and I said I needed the full payment and you told me you would give it to me tomorrow morning before work or that you would leave it with someone. After thought I decided to trust you and went with it. Afterwards, I came to your home nobody had any money. I still CONTINUED to work on your bathroom and finished the MAJORITY of the job and the most expensive part of the job "PLUMBING" I then called you and said I would need the money before I continued. You replied you would when you got home AFTER the WORK was COMPLETED. I disagreed because that wasn't our deal from the start. You got angry and I said if I didn't receive a payment that I would stop the job and remove what I did today. I gave you more then your moneys worth. You told me to get the F$ out of your home and leave it then. I said okay and I disconnected everything after that unprofessionalism on the phone with you and left. AS for the TILES, my worker made a sort of design that matched the existing wall tile. You said why is it like that and we explained it matched and it looked good, you thought about it and you said you know what it actually does and told us to keep it otherwise I stated I would fix it immediately. But you insisted. Please do NOT ever leave false information on my company as it is very unprofessional.
Goodbye.
We hired burlington contracting to redo our bathroom. They did a fantastic job. Muro was there everyday checking on his crew and the crew was fabulous. They are all very polite, pleasant and hard working. We love our new bathroom and will definitely hire them again. In fact we will probably have them back to do more work by the fall. They came in on budget and were very helpful with offering advise. Time was only a little longer then estimated but some things cannot be avoided. We would rather have it take a little longer and have it done right. We whole heartedly recommend them to anyone.
The crew were a great group of workers. They showed up on time were polite and worked quickly. Mike was on site most days and always available by telephone or email when we needed to get a hold of him. Any mishaps that occurred (normal for any job) were quickly and efficiently repaired. Some timelines were stretched but the budget was kept in check throughout. Mike was great at contributing ideas for layout and feedback on the choices we made. We are pleased with the outcome of both rooms.
