Great workmanship and very attentive to my needs and requests. The team were respectful of my home while they worked there and we lived above.
Thank you for the great review! We look forward to more business in the future.
3 months after the work was done is when Derek’s true colors started coming out.
One day my wife and I started hearing a hissing sound in our family room and then water started dripping from the ceiling. It seemed to be coming from the bathroom remodel that was done by Derek and his team. We called Derek and he had his contractor Joseph came out towards the end of the day, who immediately said it was not his fault and that we had drain pipes running in our family room ceiling that were leaking. When I challenged him on that he immediately changed his story and started saying it was the cheap faucet we had them install. Again I challenged him, went and grabbed a drywall saw and cut the wall open from the back side of the faucet. Once I did that we noticed the water was coming from the faucet connection. We shut the water off and they came back several hours later with the plumber, Derek also showed up. The plumber took it apart, said it was the cheap brass nut that had cracked and then he held out his hand asking for $200 for the service call???
Based on that plumbers diagnosis, Derek told us it was the brass nut that was cracked and we should go after the faucet manufacturer who supplied it. Guess what Derek, when I called the faucet manufacturer he informed me the brass nut was supplied by them, it would have been supplied by the plumber. I have had several independent plumbers look at the nut and they all said it was overtightened which caused the crack. Based on the welding job a few them commented that the plumber had no idea what he was doing. Whether the nut was defective or overtightened, it was supplied by your plumber and/or damaged by your plumber but you still refuse to take responsibility forcing me to call my insurance company. Since Derek paid my insurance deductible, I assume it’s his acceptance of the issues?
More recently my wife noticed the vanity drain pipe is now leaking. She texted Derek several times and he does not have the decency to respond to her, but when he was trying to get the deal, he would reply in minutes. Derek, remember you comment that we are like family and you would double your warranty to 12 months? I guess that really means nothing to you since you refuse to stand by it, not only for the major leak that caused thousands of dollars of damage, you won’t even call back on this new leak we found.
This has been such a difficult journey and I would not wish this on anyone. I am sure Derek will comment since he is all about getting positive reviews, there is no excuse for this and the way he has handled it. The nut was supplied and installed by his plumbing contractor so not really sure what he can say, but I welcome any comments he might have in this ordeal. The pictures of my home speak for themselves.
Be warned of the quality and customer service you will get, everything is great until you have an issue.
I'll start by saying that the subcontractors hired by Cedar Hills were very professional, and I'm happy to speak highly to their quality of work, however as mentioned, they're not employed by Cedar Hills.
Here's my challenge; every time there was a delay, (and there were several given this 2-Week job was quoted to be completed in December 2020 and was finally finished in April 2021), I didn't receive one proactive phone call from Derek, the owner. We received a number of updated dates for completion that came and went over those 4 extra months.
With no contact from Derek, I eventually started speaking directly with Derek's subcontractor, who was great, however again, not employed by Cedar Hills. I had told Derek numerous times that I would have expected and appreciated calls directly from him, regardless of my conversations with his subcontractors, given that we hired HIM, and we were paying HIM. This never happened, and neither did any apologies. You can't blame Covid for this, although Cedar Hills did try. Covid is a very serious thing, and I don't appreciate this being a blanket excuse for poor customer service. Is this not an opportunity or reason to proactively keep the customer updated? Cedar Hill's role is to manage customer service, and to hire 3rd party subcontractors, only.
At no point did Cedar Hills accept any responsibility for the project delays, my voiced concerns around poor communication, or anything else. When the person you're trusting with your home and your money refuses to accept any responsibility or accountability when things aren't going smoothly, this is a scary feeling for a consumer. We certainly didn't feel like a customer or that our business was needed or appreciated.
We will no longer be working with someone who only hires outside people to do their work for them, as we need to know the person working for us has some skin in the game. This is why we've found other contractors for our newest jobs, and have shared our personal experience with others who have asked.
Anyone who would like more details on our personal experience is more than welcome to reach out. I think it's important to hear several different experiences before making final decisions.
My workers dealt with Michael directly only as we waited for the garage doors to be made which were a custom order as that is what was requested. At no point was I asked to follow up directly until the last two weeks before the doors were delivered..which I did. The doors were delayed because of closures do the the covid 19 lockdown. The customer was told this was the reason and it was out of our control. As it was as stated a high quality job.
Professional, affordable and efficient. Met my standards/requirements! So happy with how everything turned out. Small details mean EVERYTHING. Derek is great! I will definitely be contacting Cedar hills contracting again in the near future.
Extremely professional and work was done in a timely manner. Great work, no complaints. Will be using them again.
Thank you Penny. I am glad you were happy with the job. :)
The team was super friendly and easy to speak too. I don’t have much knowledge on how things would happen, so the team went over everything with me before they even started! I am so happy with the work that was done! I will always refer Cedar Hills to anyone looking to get work done! Thanks again Cedar Hills for all the fantastic work!
Thank you Dan. We look forward to more business from you in the future.
I had my bathroom redone by cedar hills and it was the best job I could’ve hoped for! Everything was done to my standards and Derek goes out of his way to make sure you’re happy with the result! Would definitely recommend cedar hills for any home indoor or outdoor renovations.
After several web searches we decided to choose Cedar Hills Contracting to complete our finished basement. From the start, Cedar Hills listened to our plans and shared with us knowledge about finished basements so as to help us in the decision making. Cedar Hills worked within our budget to give us the finished basement, including a spectacular bathroom, which we are very pleased with. The crew was always professional to deal with, and the work was completed in good time. I recommend Cedar Hills Contracting and hope to work with the company again in the future.

It was a pleasure to have been of service to you Margo! We look forward to more business in the future!
Custom home. The company it’s dead good job for me. Can build my custom home and give it to me good price and good quality.
Thank you and we are pleased you are happy about the job:)
We hired Cedar Hills Contracting to renovate our bathroom based upon all the tremendous reviews we read on line.
When we explained what we were looking for we were told "No Problem". They gave us a price, and we agreed to that price.
They came in and demolished our bathroom, quickly and efficiently, but once the build started things became difficult.
All of the things that were "no problem" were now a problem and "couldn't be done". We started making compromises that we were not happy about
- Substandard craftmanship (see photo's attached)
- A shower thresh hold (that we didn't want) installed an inch out of square. (see photos)
- An unprofessionally installed (twice) shower drain that not only leaks into the basement, but the floor of the shower slopes AWAY from the drain. The drain seem to comprise of a hole punched through the tiles over the existing bathtub drain and a tin grate stuck on top of the tiles with silicone. (again, see photos)
White grout, not grey as requested, was used after multiple conversations, and then demands (see photos).
I could go on and on... it was an unending, frustrating battle of a process. We were completely unsatisfied with EVERY piece of work they undertook.
Every day they showed up they were looking for more and more money, in the end explaining that they needed 90% of the agreed price prior to the completion of the job, even though that wasn't in the contract. And certainly not any thing we ever had requested by other contractors in the past.
We had to fire them, and hire another company to come in and rip out everything that was done, and start again.
We are out thousands of dollars. We have to go out and re purchase all the tiles, all over again. We have to pay someone else to come in and start from scratch.
This was the kind of nightmare you read about and think could never happen to you.
I'm very happy to discuss further with anyone else thinking of using Cedar Hills Contracting, or anyone else who has had a similar experience with them.
Don't make the mistake we did. Buyer beware.
