We bought our home because friends lived in a bungalow condo such as our and built by CDL. At the time their home was built CDL had a very good reputation and many awards.
We have now been here 5 1/2 years. During this time, two different boards have had meetings with different people from CDL. They ended up going to mediation where promises were made and documents signed that indicated all would be fixed. Not a lot happened until a group of dissatisfied residents threatened a mini "sit down" on our end lot which is adjacent to a new CDL build which was just being erected. Representatives were there by noon and again promises were made. Again, we had trouble getting things completed or completed correctly. We have drainage issues throughout the development and have been asking for and as-built to confirm our suspicions. Again, nothing done until we had to go to arbitration where at the last minute, an as-built was done and confirmed our suspicions.
Arbitration is a very costly and time consuming process. We are now awaiting the results.
The accepted site plan lists some of the projects which must be completed and CDL has acknowledged this but refused to sign off on them before arbitration, again costing us time and money. Peter Dirksen, one of the owners said during arbitration that we bought luxury condos and spent a good deal of money to live in them. Luxury to them means, not fixing problems, cheap paint, cheap door handles, cheap garage door openers (two of which have had to be replaced already, and the meeting of "minimum" code; a term used often various members of CDL. This man was dismissive and arrogant.
We had to have portions of siding removed on every unit as the backing paper between siding and wood wall was ripped, overlapped incorrectly or missing all together. Having this happen on a couple of units might be acceptable but on every unit suggests there was little or no site supervision.
Regardless of how the arbitration turns out, I and the majority of owners in this development would not recommend this builder.
