I did not like the workmanship. Jim , is a pleasant guy but his work is of poor quality, at least in my home...this is copy of the letter sent to him as the first step towards filing a consumer complaint and commencing a small claims court lawsuit if the matter is not resolved.
the pictures will do the talking and please see the pic where drywall screws are used for trim.
other quoted received $2000 - $2400 Jim got $3200 cash.
Dear Jim Casimiro :
On Saturday December 5th, 2015 you ( Jim Casimiro) visited my home between 1.30-2.30pm. I showed you the staircase and wanted the stairs fixed and the original wood pickets replaced with iron pickets. We had very candidly discussed what options are available to me and you advised me against recapping and re veneering because I already had wood stairs and gave me a quote of $3200 cash for re sanding, refinishing the stairs.
On December 6th I messaged you at 10.34 am and again suggested that the stairs should be recapped along with new hand rail and sides. Your response was that stairs can be recapped but no need to re-veener it. I, had even that day mentioned that the job has to be done right.
The work was started and finished January 10th. There was damage done by your staff, the stain was spilled on the trim and cupboard, there was sander damage to the walls and baseboard trim.
Upon letting the stain settle it was immediately obvious that there was a lot of blotchiness and the stain was uneven throughout the staircase and there were parts where your staff completely missed sanding the old finish.
The hand rail was also not flush with the wooden posts and was filled with filler to hide the gap.
The step going into the laundry room was not varnished. The baseboard trim in laundry room was damaged.
On Jan 13 at 12.32 pm I texted you these details and never heard back from you.
I again reached out to you on January 18 at 10.19 asking when you will be coming to fix the situation.
On January 19 you came to the house and tried to fix some of the steps but without any success in fact it made the problem worse as applying stain on top of stain made some of the stairs darker and the others lighter which you did not restain.
On Feb 9 at 7.55 I again reached out to you via text and informed of the botchiness and again you claimed it is because of the previous sanding job.
In response I, stated that you are the professional you should have advised me of that when you came for the job instead you suggested against re-facing the staircase and that sanding and staining will be fine.
On february 16 you visited the house at 1.05 pm and tried to fix some parts of the steps and actually made it even more worse than before. That day you said that this is the best you can do.
I thought the varnish was not dry but when I, saw the same area next day it was obvious that something has gone wrong and I texted you with images of the steps.
On february 18 at 10.30 am you said you will pass by and see what can be done.
After not hearing from you my agent contacted you to try and rectify this matter and was advised by yourself that you will contact me.
I did not hear from you and reached out to you again on march 2nd and was told you are preparing an estimate for refacing the steps but want to paint the stringers white.
I have always advised you that is not the look I want and suggested that its better we come to a financial settlement and I would prefer to call someone else to do the job in a professional manner.
I whole heartedly believe that you being the professional of your trade should have known what to expect and guided me appropriately. I, am sure you can appreciate that consumers hire professionals because they themselves don't know this work.
I have requested Jim to meet and reach a settlement and have been told NO.
Feel free to come and see it in person....
We had the pleasure of working with Jim and his team. We had a fairly small window of time to work with prior to moving into our new home. Jim took on the job, promised he would be finished and out before we moved in. He did the work in a shorter time than promised with great result. All through the process he was professional, with no unexpected costs. It was a great working with him and as promised would not hesitate to recommend his business again.
