Do Not Hire!!!!!!
Manuel seems like a "pro" at the beginning but don't let him fool you. I usually never write reviews of any sort, but this time I feel so strongly for others not to make the same mistake as we did. Manuel and his partner Jesse are probably the most unprofessional people myself and my husband have ever met! Our small project that Manuel and I designed for our front entrance was going great at first. Manuel estimated 3 visits upon completion. He did 2 (weeks in between) was supposed to be 3 weeks in a row.. Always a sob story why he can't come, it's now been 5 weeks since last visit and we have been searching for someone to complete our project. No response from texts or messages. So far we had companies reject us due to the poor measurements/installation done by Manuel. Fingers crossed we can find someone who can finish, I'm tired of our front entrance looking like a construction zone all summer.
I had the pleasure of working with Jesse from Darby Design. He worked on my basement and was very professional from beginning to end. He worked within my budget and the quality of work and finishing product was excellent. I highly recommend him. Well priced and very professional.
I highly recommend Darby Design and Build, they did a great job on my main bathroom renovation. The work that they did was all custom and also done in a very timely manner. They are very efficient and also made sure the job gets done to the liking of the client. I really appreciate their patients and understanding with some of my last minute changes, they were happy to accommodate. I am very pleased with the result and will definitely be contacting Jesse in the future for any other renovations I need.
DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY PLEASE.
I hired this company on April 4, 2016 to do my basement. Manuel, a partner of this company came to my house with Darby Build and Design jacket to see the place. He indicated that all their work is of above average quality and everything is custom built cabinetry. He gave me 2 references. I spoke to both references who gave Manuel da Silva and Jessie Darby, a glowing reference. Manuel and his crew started the job immediately. After a week, my husband and I are noticing the work is shoddy and they are very slow. I terminated his services on April 17th after I found out that his electrical work was not in accordance with the building code. He should have farmed the electrical work to licensed electrician but instead he rather put his customer safety at risk. Be very careful hiring this company. They do not know what their doing. I paid him too much for the work that he has done in basement. I am now going to redo it. I am writing this to protect the public.

Darby Design and Build has received complaints from their suppliers and/or creditors
Complaint: Incompetent Work and Putting the homeowner at risk by doing faulty electrical work. I fired him yesterday after I hired a licensed electrician to check his work.
Reply From Darby Design and BuildWe started this project with the agreement of a 3 week schedule. Total cost $14, 600.we agreed on 4000, every Monday, and a final payment of $2600. On completion. Right away she broke that contract, we received $4000 in 2 payments in 10 days. She had, had a serious amount of pluming done by the company waterman, without a permit. Also electrical done years earlier also without permit. When we were negotiating for our basement part of the project, she was trying t get a better deal by dangling a man cave project to do in her garage and a 4\500sqft bedroom in her attic space.we said thats great, but we will definitely be needing a permig for thoose two projects. That is when she started saying "I dont need permits, I am a prosecuter for the city, and all I do is call the inspector and tell him and tell him who I am and that is that. (She said this in front of multiple people on our crew, multiple times) once we took out all the old walls, we started to notice all kinds of problems with the plumbing and electrical. She made a huge issue about us touching the electrical so we did not touch any electrical. We cleaned up some old knob and tube that was hidden in the walls. ( all was dead). I then brought her down to show her all the plumbing and electrical that was bad. So our plumber fixed a few things, and she then had a plumber friend if hers check it all . of course all was to code. So we continued on all of the frameing part of the project . We were then informed by her that the city was called by a neighbor and they were coming Tuesday 19 of april. So she freaked out , which was funny because of the way she kept saying I am city prosecutor etc..so I told her to relax she had not done anything wrong. But her plumber buddy advised her to drywall and hide everything but one wall. So at this point I said I cant do that so began working with her on the custom cabinetry for the project ( 14 cabinets for bathroom, kitchen and office) and at this point we are almost a week behind on payment. I started to stress that it was time for a payment or we can not keep working.then she started to say that we should clean up her property from her pile of garage that her and her husband had piled up outside, old tile and some old trim and rotten cabinets, even asking for me to clean up dirtbags at the side of her garage. I informed her that I would take it to the dump but she would have to pay the dump fees. (We would have done it for free, but the fact that it was hundreds of pounds ..noway ) we include all dumping of our demo work , in our qoute.so she started to say that building custom cabinetry was not labor therefor she would not release the next deposit . At this point I had to tell her no money, than we can not proceed with project. She said she fired us , that is false . She then emailed me a new pay schedule, like as if that is was normal , so I said no and we packed our tools and left. Now she is sending me pictures of the electrical that her past electrician did and is blaming it on us .this woman is a nutbar . She is now advertising all the same projects on your site with NO permits. We have never problems with anyone like this. We are not perfect but this is way out of line . This woman thinks she is smarter than everybody. Please put her, in her place and do not allow her to post this sham of a review. We are so glad to be involved with trused pros, we have not been with your company for very long but we intend to keep finding work thru trusted pro, as of up to this point it has been great. Thank you hope you can help us with this situation. Thx
