This phrase has been bantered around for decades and most people assign the origin of it to project management. So what are contractors talking about when we say 'pick any two?'

We are pleased with the results of our project. We had AL wiring issues and Datawise were able to help resolve the problem. They also gave detailed reports to our insurance company, which hopefully they will find satisfactory. They also identified unknown circuitry, lighting and switches that were unknown to us. The employees were very courteous and timely.
We have used Datawise Solutions Inc for a number of years now. Primarily we use them for our annual testing of our smoke alarms in our rental units. We book them well in advance and they are always here on time on the day(s) specified.
Datawise provides a detailed report annually of the work completed so we can use it as a proof of compliance. The report is complete with photos and written descriptions. It is also provided in e-format on a CD.
We have also used Datawise Solutions for other non-residential projects, installing CATV cables, network cables and jacks, exterior lighting, general electrical repair and maintenance, etc. Each major project comes with a detailed report.
They are not the least expensive contractor to use, but their pricing is competitive and their attention to customer service far outweighs any other contractor (electrical or not) that we have worked with, so we don’t might paying a bit more for the customer service. We appreciate when people show up when they say they are, do what they say they are going to do, clean-up their messes and be considerate of people’s businesses, homes and possessions.
We have found them to be pretty busy and they try hard to work with our schedule. If you have a larger project, book them well in advance.
So if you want quality work done we would recommend you call Datawise.
I called DATAWISE solutions to have electrical outlets looked at because a heater blew on. The electrician was here 1 1/2 hrs and found that it was a lightswitch blown that effected the other two plug-in outlets. I'm out of town today and have my sister coming over to wait until another electrician from a different company comes to look at the blown outlets again. I want this fixed immediately because I have no insurance on my place as of yet and am worried of a electrical fire. This may have been something overlooked and the electrician was kind and curtious.
Dealing with Paul was a pleasure. He was very cooperative and open about what he tried to fix himself and what caused the issue(s). His post however appears to be somewhat confusing as it was Datawise Solutions that fixed the problem, and we are not sure how any of it relates to insurance, being out of town, etc.
To clarify the situation Paul called Datawise Solutions to determine why a circuit was not working even after the blown fuse was replaced.
After reviewing the situation, we repaired the repairs that Paul attempted by using the proper AL rated devices for his aluminum wiring and proper connections. Upon further investigation it was determine that an AL connection was blown apart in a box that contained a switch on another part of the same circuit.
Once that was repaired, we put in the proper size 15 amp fuses in the rest of the panel, got his stove receptacle working and advised that he still needed to replace the 30 amp fuses for the counter receptacles with 15 amp fuses. In addition we suggested that Paul remove all the extension cords and power cubes he was using. We also suggested what receptacle Paul could use for his electric heater that caused the initial failure.
When Datawise left the job, all was in working order and Paul was happy.
We have left numerous messages with Paul to clarify his post as we would not want to have left a job undone. He has not returned any of our calls to date. If there was a problem with the workmanship, this would be fully covered by our policies and there would not be any additional charge to Paul.
We thank Paul for asking Datawise Solutions Inc to assist him with his electrical problems and look forward to working with him again.

All around fantastic on everything! John gave a quick and accurate diagnosis, clearly and accurately communicated the problem, and made the fix look easy. I hope to use him for all future electrical work in my house.
John was amazingly communicative and precise in his setting of a time and a date. The job I gave him was residential and not easy but he sorted things out and left my home in better shape than he found it...all my electrical issues solved. I would recommend Datawise to anyone in the Niagara region seeking expert electrical assistance.
Wow, this company especially John is incredible, he arrive on time, was aware of the care of the home and went to work on our problem at once. Within minutes found the problem, presented a solution and quickly repaired the problem. He was very nice and sincerly wanted only what was best for us, his bill was below standard rates and we are more than happy to pay for such excellent service. When we need to we'll never use a different company. Thanks John.
We were very impressed with John from Datawise Solutions. He was professional in all regards and his work was impeccable. One day he and his apprentice were running fifteen minutes late due to a flat tire yet he called to let us know they would be arriving a few minutes late. John was very good at figuring out what we needed, explaining our options, and involving us in the decision-making process as much as possible. We even received a professional-looking report complete with photos and a CD which outlined all the jobs which Datawise completed. They took the time to clean up everything, too, which was greatly appreciated. We would not hesitate to hire them again.
To whom it may concern,
John is a very knowledgeable electrician, very polite and professional. His easy-going personality makes it easy to communicate the issues to him. I will definitely refer him and the company he represents to my friends and family.
Thank you,
Savannah Buth
I have an old home that was rewired in the 1970's with a mixture of copper and aluminium wire. Along with it was an old fuse panel, which is not a problem but the panel was pretty beat up and it looked used. I decided one day I should get rid of that aluminium wire as a circuit had shown eveidence of some heat build up and no longer worked. I thought ok i will replace the plug but could not follow the wires through a multitude of junctions and i decided to turn the power off in the whole house using the main switch on the panel. I was unable to work the main switch, it turned out it was broken! I was in trouble.
I talked to a few electrical contractors but did not get a good feeling until a friend suggested DataWise. I called and had a consultation and was impressed at the care and unrushed assessement of my situation. I felt comfortable with John and decided this will be my choice. I was involved from the first to the last and John guided me with his suggestions where I was unsure of what to do. He layed aout a plan and followed it through and I knew what was happening on each day.
I really liked that after each day of work the crew cleaned up entirely and left an oredered work area. They were sensitive to this as this was my home. I received a new breaker panel and John rewired a lot of circuits to eliminate junctions and make things more efficient. Things were labelled correctly and he made sense out of it all. Also as I noticed I needed some replacment of switches her and ther as well as a new light instlalation, I just asked John and he had no problem fitting it into the plan. I found the guys pretty flexible that way.
The job was done on time and no more aluminium wire is present in my house. Things went very smooth and I certainly would recommend Datawise(especially John) to anyone.

This phrase has been bantered around for decades and most people assign the origin of it to project management. So what are contractors talking about when we say 'pick any two?'
Recently I was involved in a conversation with some fellow tradesmen (I was the only Electrical Contractor (EC)) on the topic of "Value". The topic was really about how to explain to a client about the value of work that is not seen not "lipstick and mascara". So to help explain some of the differences in the electrical area I will offer up the following.
There is nothing stopping you and your Electrical Contractor from adding more to the requirements of the code to meet your future needs. While there is a cost to do this, the cost of doing it during the renovation or build is far less than doing it several years down the road where it is possible that you will end up removing some of your new renovation work to facilitate the new requirement.
Just like many other electrical contractors (ECs), I get numerous calls for estimates to upgrade a client's electrical panel or service. For many ECs this is the mainstay of their business and are very good at doing them quickly and with excellent quality. However, don't be fooled just because they have done many of these upgrades. Just like any other type of work, do your due diligence, ask the right questions and do your homework.
I was recently at a client's home and while discussing how to solve a particular electrical problem they were having, I came across a bundle of wires. I originally thought that they were computer network cables and then I took a few minutes to look at the markings on the cables and explain what they meant and what they might be for. As you can imagine the response was, "it's all Greek to me".
I am sure there are not many of us that have not been the brunt of a joke that took us unsuspectingly by using terminology that we were not familiar with. While we went along willingly looking for the left-handed screwdriver , when it comes to electrical work don t let your electrical contractor try to bedazzle you with terms and acronyms that leave you confused or unsure.
I can always tell when home sales are up or insurance policies are due; I get calls for aluminum wire inspections. One of the most important things during my AL wire inspection is educating the potential buyer or the current homeowner on the facts about AL wire and helping them sort out the hyperbole that their house is going to burn down because it has AL wring or some other ridiculous statement.
This is the call of hundreds, if not thousands of fire safety organizations and fire departments around North America, and I believe that most of us think it is true, smoke detectors save lives.
Everywhere in Canada a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) is required in different parts of homes and businesses. A whole article on the building code requirements and interpretations could be written, but today I want to focus strictly on the facts and fictions surrounding GFCIs.
