We had originally been planning to sell our house in a year or so – but we needed to upgrade the basement first. We were hoping to find a contractor that could give us a reasonably nice-looking basement for a reasonably nice cost. We got a bunch of quotes – Dave’s was the lowest and the most detailed. Once the work began – Dave kept us up-to-date on progress, time frames, next steps, code requirements, etc. He very patiently listened when we brought up change ideas and carefully explained whether or not the changes would even work, if not – why, and the cost implications. Dave and his crew are very skilled, polite, friendly and they obviously take great pride in their work.

Although we had intended to sell in a year – now that the work is completed – its too nice to leave! We think we may stay a few years longer in order to enjoy it more with our friends and family.

My project with Dave DeVries of DeVries Construction and Renovation (DCR) was to add a one-bedroom basement suite in my smaller 1941 bungalow. This was done under Manitoba Housing’s Secondary Suite Program. I had three quotes and I went with DCR because of the price and sound references. The design was already done professionally and it was then handed off to Dave. Dave was thoroughly familiar with the City of Winnipeg’s permit system and took the project through all the required permits. Dave is a gifted communicator and brings extensive knowledge to the project. As his team worked through the renovation, Dave made a few changes to the design that were a definite plus. He was able to move plumbing and then walls to give more space to the kitchen and bathroom. He came up with a nice closet space for the entrance that was not in the original design. There were two levels to the existing concrete floor and, instead of raising the lower one as was spelled out in the design, Dave realized he could lower the higher one to gain 2 – 3” ceiling height in the kitchen and dining area. The bathroom shower had to go under a bulkhead so we went with a custom-made shower to gain some inches in height. The tile work is beautiful. I was not experienced with choice of materials and colours and went entirely with Dave’s recommendations. The result met my best expectations. I really appreciated the attention to detail because I wanted this to be a first-class suite for my prospective tenant. Because the job was done so well, I had seven written tenant applications and three on my short list, any one of which I would have been delighted to choose. Dave continues to follow up on any deficiencies that crop up. I highly recommend Dave and his crew at DCR.

Dave and crew did our attic / firewall / garage ceiling a couple years ago, and now a full basement reno this winter. We can't say enough about the quality of their work, and their ability to execute (stay on schedule, deliver exactly what we ask for). Most importantly, Dave goes the extra mile to both explain what's happening AND to give advice/help us fix minor unrelated issues that pop up along the way.

We began an ambitious DIY basement renovation a few years back, left unfinished and in disarray. After asking around, DeVries Construction was recommended. Dave came down, provided a reasonable quote and started he job within projected timeframes. His staff were skilled, knowledgeable, excellent to deal with and respectful towards our home and pets. Dave was available through the project, willing to receive and offer suggestions/ improvements. They did a fabulous job, final price as quoted, no surprises and a great warranty. We are fully satisfied and have since referred onto others.

The project started with a new kitchen island and exhaust in our 1928 home and ended being a complete kitchen reno as well as a basement bathroom reno. We found Dave on BBB and his rating of A+ is well deserved. He took us step by step through the process so there were no surprises cost or otherwise. His crew were courteous and looked after our home well, taking care to seal and cover floor and doorways and cleaning up after each day. Dave took great pride in his work and went the extra mile to look after things we may have missed. He answered all our questions and concerns quickly and with calm clarity, ensuring we were at peace. I can't recommend this company more highly. They will be on speed dial for all future renovations!

My husband and I felt very comfortable with Dave and his team. They are knowledgeable, professional, and kind. They kept the site very clean and organized. We had a concrete 1927 unfinished basement and wanted to bring it up to modern times. We wanted something that our family could relax in, our kids could play in and that would add value to our house when reselling. DeVries Construction delivered. In 8 weeks’, they added a full suite Bathroom, finished laundry room, office, recreational and mechanical room. I was worried that the work would be sub-par, have leaks or just be plain mediocre but the team exceeded my expectations and delivered a finished basement that I am proud of and better than my family dreamed of.

Dave, Richard and all the workers were nothing but genuine and professional. They went through the plans time and time again, were communicative of any changes and decisions that needed to be made and were more than available to answer any questions we had through the whole process. They cleaned up at the end of everyday and went through their work with a tooth-comb to ensure they only delivered fine quality workmanship.
