The first time I gave Steve Edan a call to get repairs done for our bathroom shower doors, he was responsive, fast, and extremely courteous to deal with. We continued calling him for further issues (like plumbing and work on our light fixtures), and eventually recommended him directly to our tenants living in a separate condo who needed a hand with a few renovation-related tasks. They loved working with him as well. Finally, my parents saw the work he had done, and they became a third contact entirely on the merits of his skill and professionalism.
Steve is now a staple, recurring contact for all of us.
We first approached Steve from Edan Home Repair to fix a substantial leak that traveled from our master bathroom through to the ceiling of our main floor family room. It was a mess. Steve was amazing! He methodically looked for and found the root of the problem, fixed the leak from an improperly installed bathtub as well as dry walled and painted the family room ceiling. You would never know that there had been a leak. After Steve fixed the problem and repaired the damage we asked him to come back to do a number of small but significant jobs; installing light fixtures, building bookcases, installing shelves - there was not a job too big or small for Steve. We found Steve to be a detailed contractor, respectful of every room he worked in, neat and careful with covering areas while working and painting. He is knowledgeable, professional, pleasant and responsive always delivering quality service within the promised time line. We would highly recommend Steve for all areas of home repair and will definitely use his services again for home repair and larger contracting needs.
I was looking for a reliable handyman to do work around our home. I found Steve Edan on Trusted Pros.
Steve came to see the work that I wanted done. He explained what would be required and gave me a budget to work with. He is knowledgeable and looked for ways in which I could save money and also get the best value.
Some of the projects completed are Painting, drywall repairs, duct work, trim. plumbing and electrical.
I highly recommend Steve for any projects, from small repairs to larger renovations. He is trustworthy, capable, dependable and efficient.
Steve is a courteous, enthusiastic and highly-skilled pro who has tackled our maintenance jobs big and small with attention to detail. For instance, one of the jobs was the uncommon application of a window film to repel hot sun rays. It required accurate measuring, cutting, lots of water to adhere it to the window, and hardest of all, lots of sqweegie-smoothing for no wrinkles. None of my househandy brothers would try it, but Steve took it on confidently (likely with little or no practice) and with utterly perfect results.
Steve has just completed a fairly extensive renovation of a two-storey apartment in our house. It included bathroom, kitchen, hvac, drywall, staircase, flooring, doors, trim, paint and lighting installation (I'm sure there's more I've missed). I have to say that it was a pleasure working with Steve. From day one he communicated with us on a regular basis, asking us questions, making suggestions and answering any questions we had. He has great attention to detail and is skilled at what he does. I look forward to recommending Steve to anyone that is looking for a general contractor. ~Carolyn
Steve expanded our main floor washroom to include a walk-in shower. The space needed was obtained by taking over an adjoining hall closet. In an innovative move, he expanded the space available to provide a full-size shower by relocating ventilation ductwork out of the former closet area. Steve built a new set of closets in the main hall, to provide even more closet room than we had previously.
The result was beyond our expectations.
Steve's workmanship was excellent in all respects. He took care to keep the work area clean. We found him to be a very pleasant guest in our house.
One of our friends recommended Steve Edan to us as they were happy with the work he did for them. We needed a bath tub to walk in shower conversion. Steve gave us good suggestions and suggested a bath fixture and a tile supplier, both of whom were very helpful. Steve took the time to come with us to help choose all the shower fixtures, he also found a glass shower door on sale and picked it up for us.
He discussed all the issues and made sure that everything was placed as we wanted.
All the work was skillfully and meticulously done. He is very neat and left everything ready to be used.
We would not hesitate to employ Steve again or recommend him to anyone contemplating a home renovation.
Thanks Heather for your kind words. It was a pleasure to work with you and Maurice to turn your vision into reality. I am glad the renovation turned as you had hoped!
I was recently faced with an issue in my basement (water leak) that had all the floor damaged. I did call Steven who provided me with a very prompt response and fair estimate upon his assessment of the damage. It took him just a couple of hours to identify the root cause of the issue and fixed to avoid further damage. He did an excellent job to fix the wall and replace the flooring within the provided timelines with a high-level of quality and to our satisfaction. We were quite happy with his work, professionalism, and friendly approach that we soon had him back to do some other additional repairs around the home including the re-caulking of the master bathroom shower. Great service, no hassles, and reasonable fees so that I would not hesitate to refer his service to anyone who needs it.
Hi William. Thank you for your kind words. I am glad that I could help you and your family fix the water problem and put your recreation room back together. It turned out really well! You would never know that the repair to the wall and floor were done. I am happy that we continue to work together. Always a pleasure to talk to you and your wife.
Bathroom Reno, Story and Review:
I had damaged the tiles that surround my bathtub after a slip and fall against the wall.
I was looking for a reliable, professional contractor to re-tile my master bathroom tub surround and replace the plumbing fixtures. I found Steve Edan on TrustedPros and reached out to him through email. Steve responded quickly to my inquiry, and gave me a reasonable estimate for the re-tiling based from the pictures I sent.
I purchased the replacement tiles & faucet at the end of September. I knew that Steve was busy and wouldn’t be able to do the installation right away. A couple of weeks passed, and having found a solution I was getting anxious to have the shower fixed and brought back into use.
Steve said he could recommend another contractor who could do the work. The teardown work was completed by Steve in November. JD showed up shortly after to do the tile & plumbing work. He seemed personable, customer focused, and indicated he could do the work -- no problem. The work progressed slower than I’d expected and there were several workmanship issues developing such as a large gap at the bottom of the tile and tub where the faucet was located. To add to that, several tiles were uneven to one another, there was a chipped tile and gap by the showerhead, the overall result was poor. The job did not look professional and when I asked my son his opinion, his reaction was immediate, “looks worse than a DIY!”
I voiced my concerns and asked Steve to come over to have a look at the work. I showed him what was wrong. He agreed and said he would get back to me and let me know what could be done. Later that day he contacted me to say that he will re-do the tile and plumbing work. I was relieved to hear that, because I could not live with the job as it stood and had come to the same, regrettable conclusion that the work had to be redone.
Steve was quick to help me pick out some new tiles and suggested upgrading the shower fixtures. He’s very knowledgeable with great experience as well as insight. We did go back and forth on the tile selection, with active and productive debate. Having different tastes with some of the aesthetics was a good thing, the final selection could not have worked out better.
Steve started the re-do and right away I saw a whole different quality of work, vastly improved, and this was a huge relief for me. It took him a couple of hours to install the faucet and get everything ready for tiling. The tile work went smoothly. Everything was straight and even.
Another area of concern that is relevant to the job and this review is that when Steve first came to look at JD’s work, he pointed out the vanity sink looked like it has been scratched, most likely from someone cleaning a trowel in it. This was one of those secondary issues that adds insult to injury. Steve immediately resolved this issue as well, saying he would replace it at no charge for the labour or for the new sink. This was very positive and I was very thankful!
I can’t adequately express my happiness in how much Steve stepped up and made things right! It would have been endlessly aggravating, and untenable, to have left the job as it was first “completed”!
I do recommend Steve to anyone that wants a professional, conscientious and skilled contractor. Steve truly cares about the quality of work, his commitments and customer satisfaction. In any contract, it’s a two-way street, both parties have to be in it for win-win, and achieving a happy conclusion. Steve is this and more. I see it in the result of this project every morning, and it is good.
Up next, I’ve already started discussing some other projects with Steve.

Stephen, thanks for your wonderful review. I am happy that I could make your renovation a reality and one that you are proud to show off! I am sorry for the bad work that James Devitt Construction had left you with and then just walked away from. That is not how I conduct my business or how I treat my customers. There are good contractors and there are bad ones, it is disheartening when even an experienced contractor can be deceived by an unscrupulous and inexperienced contractor and a friendship taken advantage of. Even though, I was in contact with James through out the the tile work and he said that work was going well and would look great in the end, that is not what I saw when I came to look at the completed work. Everything that you could do wrong in tile work was done! And the plumbing work was very shoddy. I have no doubts that it would have leaked in a very short time! I think anyone on TrustPros, or any contractor, should be doing their very best to make a customer a happy. Homeowners are spending thousands of dollars on renovation projects and should expect to have a contractor who is competent in the work they say can perform. James Devitt Construction falls way short of that!
Once again Stephen, I am glad that I was able to complete the tile work to your satisfaction and that we are still working on more projects around your home.
