He is very dishonest! Please note he has two addresses. The address in Hamilton may not be real. We went to knock on his door but he no one was there. He has a nice house in Caledon. He took our deposit of $4,000 and never did any work - just lots of text messages back and forth with empty promises. Small claims court was just a waste of time, never got a dime back. He is still doing the same trick by promising my refund if I remove the review. Not a chance! I did not enjoy working with EJ Masonry (Eddie Hobbs) at all! What little work was completed took many months to complete. The stone chimney, which was just a straight design, was crooked and needed re-doing. I didn't even get to do the stone skirt around the house because we didn't want to continue working with this unprofessional company. He took our down-payment and after a year, he still hasn't given it back. It was like pulling teeth to get him to come work, he would say he was going to show up and then not and not even let us know. The quality of work was really disappointing, and I can't in good conscience recommend this company to anyone.
I wish I could give 0 stars to this company that took my $500 deposit and has never returned the money since June of this year. He even intimidated me by mentioning my address when I called for a refund of the deposit. I immediately filed a police complaint and this way it will register in the system. Let me share my experience here. Back in June, I called and spoke to the owner Eddie & hired him for two jobs. The first job is to close a small window area with a brick wall & the second one is to move a newly installed window a bit and redo the brickwork. The owner Eddie said it could be done the following day (Saturday) but wanted a $500 deposit and asked me to remove the newly installed window and keep that place empty. I sent the deposit immediately but only came to know that the newly installed window shouldn't be moved (the window company informed me) for a few days as the silicone will still be wet and cause a mess on the bricks. I was surprised that Eddie never mentioned anything about this but took up the job to complete the next day knowing that it would cause a mess on the bricks. I tried calling him several times that day to postpone the job but he never picked up the phone. I sent him texts to which he finally replied that they could anyway only do one of the two jobs on the following day (Saturday) and hence can finish the closing of the window area, and come back for the second job on the following Tuesday. Then, I received a text from him the same day at 10.51 pm saying that his brother wouldn't be able to come the following day (Saturday) and they could do both jobs together on the following Tuesday. However, no one showed up on Tuesday and after calling several times, he said someone would be in there the next day (Wednesday) to do the job. Again, no one showed up the next day morning, and I texted my disappointment to him. He replied saying that he could offer a refund of my deposit and complained that I was screwing up his schedule. Wait a minute.....It was him that took up a job knowing a newly installed window shouldn't be moved without the silicone caulking being dry and also it was him who canceled the Saturday appointment as his brother wouldn't be able to make it. So, I took up his offer, canceled the agreement we made, and completed the job using another company who were spot on. From June till now, I have been promised numerous times by Eddie that the refund of my deposit will be sent through etransfer. So far, nothing has come. I am taking this to small claims to make sure he doesn't do this to another person.
Note: I have all the text messages to prove this in case if he denies this.
This guy EDDIE HOBBS is a FRAUD,
Do not give this guy a deposit you do not want to loose ...he says all the things that sound right but takes your money and has NO INTENTION of doing the work.
pmc.57@hotmail.com
He is running a Ponzi Scheme ...need your deposit to do work on past jobs.
Ensure that this FRAUD puts your deposit in a account for your job only ....if he does not agree to this walk away!
I had contracted E. J. Masonry to do some brick and joint repair on my house. The repair was very poorly done. They tinted half of the house to the point that it looks like there was a fire. Instead of replacing some bricks they just slapped on mortor where the brick is. I took pictures and sent them to Eddie Hobbs the owner who admitted that it was poor work. He assured me that he would repair the work to my satisfaction. Two years, numerous e-mails and calls have gone by and still not repairs. Eddie has numerous times assured me he would respond and never did. I have given the company ample time to redeem themselves only to be let down. I should mention that I paid for the work in advance.
This company and the owner Eddie Hobbs has zero credibility and I would recommend never to hire them or Eddie.
I booked EJ masonry for a job and he unfortunately wasn't able to take on the work for me in the timeline I needed. He was nice about it though and he was quick to send a quotation. It was easy to communicate with him via text. Can be a little disorganized at times but if you stay on top of your project and keep good records for yourself you won't have any issues. I can't speak to quality of work or timelines for projects but he is a nice guy
Caro mar please contact me it s never my intention to take anyone s money that work has not been complete.
Please send me a text or call me please.
Extremely disappointed with the work. Feel cheated. Bad communication. Unprofessional and substandard results. More concerned with getting transferred payment before work is even done than making sure everything is done right (literally was asked when I would pay the rest half a dozen times before work was even complete... and I have all the texts).
Subcontracted it out to some guy who seemed stoned and made a complete mess everywhere (without asking me if this was okay or even notifying me he wouldn't be doing the work himself). Mortor everywhere (even on the lawn), globs coming off the chimney (which I was told would be cleaned up but apparently was not because someone who just did some siding work for me today brought it up to me that it was a mess up there), did not finger in the work to brick-in a space at the back of the house initially and even when it was "fixed" it still looked half ass and he even tried to argue that I didn't ask for it to be fingered-in (why would I assume they would do it the wrong way unless asked to do it appropriately?).
Was supposed to caulk around the dryer vent that needed to be extended out (as the first guy just slapped some mortor messily around the plastic) and acted like he did me a favour by caulking my windowsill too but it the messiest caulking job I have ever seem - again blobs everywhere (like why couldn't you even smooth it with a finger??).
Then decided to use my lawn/driveway as storage for scaffolding he wouldn't pick up in a timely manner. Kept telling me he would get it and then didn't. Ridiculous and I feel taken advantage of. Being pregnant, it was not like I could get up on the roof on a ladder and check all the work so they just left whatever I couldn't see even crappier than the rest.
He should be ashamed of the work he did and that he took full payment from us for such substandard unprofessional work. Being my first time getting this kind of work done and handling it mostly on my own I had no reference to know I was being taken advantage of...
EJ masonry was recommended by a friend. Eddie came to my house. Very polite. very professional. Gave me a quote. We agreed on the price...now I have a beautiful backyard to host all summer long!! Thank you so much for your services Eddie. I have also recommended you to other friends.
This guy has no clue what he is doing, not only did he rip me off but he also created damage to my property that cost me three times as much as it should have for the work I wanted complete. He is rated D+ on the BBB. I’m not the only one who has sued him and if you hire him to do work on your property you’ll also be the one suing him. Judge ordered him to pay up but he won’t.
