I hired this guy to do my kitchen ceiling and pot lights and same for living room ceiling at beginning they started work but showed up 2-3 hours late just after few days stopped coming and making excuses why he’s not coming then refused to give my mom money back and never finished the job left my house in a disaster.
STAY AWAY FROM EMPIRE REMODELING!
They kept my deposits without finishing the project! They never refunded me!
At the end of January/2020, Empire Remodeling contacted me from a Homestars post. I paid a deposit upfront and Kev, their Project Manager who came to my house, confirmed that his crew would start working immediately. He also confirmed that the project would take between 2 and 3 weeks to be completed.
On the second week of work, the Project Manager started to charge me for payments of services that were not complete. At the same time, he started to tell me that some areas of the basement were not included in the contract. During this same week, the Project Manager started to ask me for payments of materials that were not included in his project cost.
On the third week, I started questioning the Project Manager why the project was delayed and also about the low quality of the work that was done. He would always come up with a different excuse and tell me that the basement would be ready in time. Then, he told me that he would ask the owner of Empire Remodeling, Frank, to send more people.
Things became even worse when he involved the owner. His boss complained to me that his Project Manager had given me a very low price and that he needed to charge me more money, otherwise he wouldn’t send anybody to finish the project.
After that they stopped working and nobody showed up for a week. I exchanged several emails and messages with them which were all replied with unprofessional and disrespectful behavior. They were always chasing me for more money.
I started to ask them to deliver the material that I had paid which, according to them, was being stored in their warehouse. They never brought the material to my house. Most likely they never bought it.
I was exchanging dozens of messages/emails daily with them where I would demand them to finish what they had started and I had paid. The Project Manager then, knowing that I wouldn’t pay for the extra money that they were demanding, started to charge me for everyday that a subcontractor would come to my house to work on something that they had started, but never finished, and that I had paid already. Crazy stuff!
Anyhow, very few progress was done and I communicated to Empire Remodeling that I wouldn’t pay one more cent until my basement was finished. On that same day, I received an email from the owner threatening me that the project would take forever and that I would have the dumpster on my driveway for the next 6 months if I didn’t pay the extra amount that they were asking.
After that, I opened a complaint with the BBB and decided to hire a Lawyer. My lawyer contacted Empire Remodeling in order to resolve the matter without us having to go to Court. On the same week, around Mar 11th, I received a call from their Project Manager where he asked me to finish the project and that it would be done in two weeks. He came on the following week and cleaned the floor, did some plastering and paint touch-ups for 4 incomplete days.
After that, the Project Manager was supposed to bring the materials so they could install the doors, molding, flooring and finish the bathroom. Unfortunately, It never happened. After postponing it for a few days, the Project Manager used the excuse that his supplier was not delivering due to the Covid-19 epidemic. I asked him a copy of the order receipt where it would show that he had ordered the materials but he never sent it to me. I told him that many other stores were still delivering and he simply ignored.
They asked me to remove my reviews from HomeStars and TrustedPros and they would give me 3 postdated cheques for May, June and July for my refund.
I cashed the first two cheques and they both got returned from the bank due to nonsufficient funds. I haven't heard back from them since then.
You can't trust anybody from Empire Remodeling.
Empire Remodelling contacted me from a Homestars post. Good reviews so I hired them to do some framing. I paid a deposit upfront and scheduled the work in a couple days. No one shows up. I contact them again and they apologize and schedule again for the next day. No one shows up. I contact them and they falsify truth ('someone was picking up the wood and would be right over'). Nobody shows up and one of their subcontractors tells me that they do this all the time. I’ve now missed two days of work waiting for them. I demand a refund for weeks and get sent around to various people who provide various excuses, including the owner. Eventually they issued a refund but only after I posted some online reviews. Images of the text conversations are included. Absolutely avoid this company.
