Jamie came and gave a quote asked for a deposit which I agreed to and disappeared, after multiple calls he showed up to do the work, in a car with the ladder tied to the roof with his girlfriend.
He scraped the joints and threw the old mortar in my gutters, his water professional grade water proofing was Thompsons, a product he said he would not use, the staging he said he would erect turned out to be a 5 foot wooden stepladder, mine. The chimney in question was not finished as the staging, my step ladder, would not reach some areas.
I will have to call someone else to complete and fix the still leaking fireplace as Jamie has ignored my calls to come and complete the work.
I would not recommend Father & Son Chimney, save yourself the heartache and trouble and call another more reputable company.
Jamie is fairly unstable and the only worker in the company. He is unable to properly diagnosis and fix structural issues with any long term solution. He maybe good at cleaning and sweeping but if you need to repair any type of brick and mortar issue I would strongly recommend seeking work else where. Also, under any sort of challenge or stress from the job he is very rude, does not back his own work and can be verbally abusive. I would not feel safe asking him back into my house.
Hired them to do a chimney repair & install a firebox. Got 90% done & disappeared. Tried to contact via phone & email but no answer. Tried to call again today & now their phone & website are disconnected. No way to get in contact with them to finish the job. We started this entire process in December. 6 months is too long to finish what should be a simple job for a professional with that much experience.
When needing my chimney cleaned, I looked through all the companies registered with BBB. I then read all the reviews written in favour of Father and Son and based my choice of company on others experience with them. My initial phone call to Jamie was met with warmth and interest in what I needed done. A week later to fit into my schedule, Bobbi arrived in dreadful snowy weather to clean the chimney. She was efficient, friendly and kept the area around the fireplace immaculate, She then advised me that some of the brick work in the fire grate needed repairing, which she showed great willingness in doing for me.
I truly could not have dealt with a better company, they are honest and their fees, even with the added help in repairing the mortar, which I was not expecting, was inclusive of the original quote given to me by Jamie.
Thank you both, I am glad I chose Father and Son.
James's team rebuilt the cap to our chimney in 2013, and it continues to look great and work just fine. The team was professional and left no mess behind (unlike other workers we've had in the past.) The repairs were done in a timely manner and for a very reasonable price. We were most impressed with the work done and the team's good manners. Our chimney was swept thoroughly shortly thereafter and James inspected it for us. In a chimney that is about 40 years old, there is a lot of build up, especially when the previous owner never used a sweeping service, preferring to do his own "brand" of cleaning. James was able to remove a lot of old very hard creosote, rendering our chimney that much safer. We will only use Father & Son Chimney Service from now on.
