Phoned one number and somehow connected to a different number which was Joel. Should have known then. I hired him to remove and install a new dishwasher. Too many things to mention but a 1 hour job turned out to be a 5 hour job. He had no parts in his truck and had to leave twice to purchase parts at Home Depot. At one point he said he had to stop work because the wires were not long enough and said he would have to install a junction box. My wife of all people pointed out if he just turn the dishwasher around the wire will reach the front of the new dishwasher. He was prepared to leave this thing in the middle of our kitchen and leave and comeback after the weekend. Lastly, I asked him to use the part the secured the dishwasher to the sides of the counter. He claimed it was not needed. Since then every time we use our washer it slides out from under the counter. Bottom line is stay away from Joel. We still talk about the experience.
Totally incompetent! Sent 2 young guys over. They hooked the water softener up to the hot-water line instead of the full house inlet. Then there was a water leak from the softener and water leak from my hot water heater, none of which existed before. When I called them to complain and ask them to fix it (1 day after installation), they wanted $200 service fee to pick up the unit and take it back to the manufacturer for warranty + $75 per hour for their time. Manufacturer de-authorized them and sent a competent person out at their own cost. All was fixed. Product itself was perfect. Thanks Excalibur Water Softerner company. Stay away from Go Heating and Air Conditioning!
Joel came to our house on April 19th, 2022, to give us a quote on an air conditioner installation which would require an upgraded electrical panel. He made a lot of promises, to move the hydro stack, to install a water pump and pressure tank, to replace 2 electrical panels to accommodate the air conditioner, and to replace our laundry tub, and a plug for our trailer.
The original price he quoted was $17000. We told him it was too much and would only pay $10000. He agreed to that price.
I signed his iPad contract and gave him a $3000 deposit that day. He came back within 2 days to instal the laundry tub, and water pump. A value that we calculated at about $1000. We then paid another $6000. Joel promised us he'd be back within a couple of weeks, but kept on making excuses as to why he couldn't come, it was Hydro Ones fault for quite some time, then he had surgery on his leg and couldn't come, but did send his electrician to hook up the air conditioner. This was the beginning of July. He spliced it into our water heater ( for temporary use) and after 2 weeks of use, the a/c started making a loud buzzing sound. Joel's response to the video we sent him was, "oh, wow". He said he would talk to his team and get back to me. Joels own electrician told us the panel in the garage didn't need to be replaced after Joel had told us it did need to be replaced. Finally he set up an appt with hydro one to change over the electrical panels, well, hydro one showed up (it cost us $500, now we have to pay another $500 for Hydro to come back), but Joel didn't and neither did his electrician, which he told us had unexpectedly quit, so now he was going to hire a new electrician. We are now at the end of August, summer is almost over, and we haven't been able to use the a/c. Once again he promised to complete the job asap. It's now April 20th, 2023. All we have is the laundry sink, a water pump, there's no working a/c, no electrical panels, no more promises, and Joel is not responding to our messages. Joel portrayed himself as knowledgeable, creative, and honest. We actually believed he was an electrician. We are seniors, we gave him a good part of our life savings, and received very little in return, just empty promises. Please, stay away from this company at all costs.
We had a new furnace installed Dec 20, 2018 by Go Heating. They did not complete the full removal of the old furnace equipment. They left the old stainless steel chimney in place outside the house despite that the removal was detailed in the contract. They were still paid by us on same day.
On Aug 16, 2022 we received a letter from MetCredit for a bill double the original amount paid (4 years interest on original amount) with a description that we did not pay the original Dec 20, 2018 bill. No other previous contact was made by either MetCredit or Go Heating. I called them and I explained that we did pay and in full (we have copies of the visa bill and a paid receipt from Go Heating). They ignored my explanation and are going to sue for the full amount. I tried calling Go Heating several times and receptionist said no one available to discuss our issue and took messages. No call back.
MetCredit will be filing a court order. I will now be going to court to present our case.
Stay away from this company if you need any HVAC services.
I would like to give less than one star for Go Heating & Cooling out of Barrie, Ontario and their technician/slick salesman "Joel" and their operations manager. On the weekend of October 24th , we found that our existing hot water tank had leaked all over the basement floor. My friend called Go Heating and supplied them with my name and address as she recommended them to quote a price and talk about installing a tankless gas water heater. Joel showed up that very day (Sunday) without invitation, he assessed the situation and he verbally quoted me $7,000.00 for all the work to install the hot water heater and a water softener, as well as correct a gas issue that was discovered upon his inspection. He gave me the impression this included everything, but not once did he provide an itemized contract/quote with the pricing for labour, water heater, and water softener.
The hot water heater was installed and the gas issue resolved the following week. Joel showed up at my home unannounced to install the water softener on Tuesday, November 2nd late in the evening when I was home alone. I am on a well it was suggested that I would also require a water softening unit so as not to void the warranty on the tankless hot water heater. NEVER did he test the water to see if it was required. He did not ask where I would like the water softener located and proceeded to install it under the stairs, where I did not want it. I am disabled and was unable to go downstairs to oversee where it was being installed. By this time of night I was exhausted and overwhelmed. AFTER all the work was done 'Joel' presented a tablet and dismissed my request to see a printed contract. He had me scrawl my signature on a tablet which I have never done before. I asked him more than once for a proper invoice/contract with the equipment pricing and labour itemized. He failed to do this. He ushered me into my home office so that he could print out a void cheque and payment plan with Simply Group. Never did he provide me with a copy of the Ontario Consumer Protection Act, 2002 Information Sheet.
Joel then told me that he would be back to deliver salt and set the unit up to work, but has never returned to do so. I have called Joel's personal cell phone which he provided to inquire, he never answered and I could not leave a voicemail as he doesn't have his voicemail set up to record messages. I then resorted to emailing the company email manager@goheating.com on November 22nd, 2021 to ask for this service to be completed. I received NO reply whatsoever. Finally I emailed again on November 26th, 2021 to request that they come to remove the water softener equipment as I am not satisfied with their installation or lack of service, citing that we were enacting our rights under the Canadian Retail Consumer Protection Act as it had not yet been 30 days since this all occurred.
Suddenly I was receiving text messages from "Joel" making all sorts of claims, and bullying me. This unit has never been programmed to soften water or recharge. I chose not to reply to his text messages instead staying more "official" with emails as I don't feel texting is professional. The manager never emailed, nor phoned after receiving two emails. Finally I sent yet another email on December 3rd, 2021 requesting that they make arrangements to come remove their equipment on Tuesday, December 7th. I have researched this model and found that there must be salt in the water for it to work which is not their claim. It isn't even programmed to work. The bottom line is that I was over promised, then intimidated, bullied and taken advantage of in a time of extreme stress by Go Heating & Cooling from Barrie, Ontario who are now calling themselves Go Wismers. Stay away from this company! They have terrible service and scam vulnerable elderly people.
Owned a home now for over 30 years. Have needed service done to my home. Working with Joel and his company Go Heating. In Barrie was by far the worst experience ever. Bar none. Not very honest, took a while to figure out problem. Took 4 days to complete. Could go on and on. There are plenty of plumbers in the area. It is my recommendation to stay away from Joel and his company. Just sayin !!
No invoice sent, took multiple contractors to do simple demolition and they charged over 200 per hour. Overall disgusting service!
They will be sweet to you to secure the job and then try and price the job as high as possible to see if you're willing to pay... I'm not talking about a few hundred dollar mark ups... I'm talking about 10-30 thousand dollar jumps.. Big scammers if they can! Check all reviews on homestars, Google business and Trusted Pros.
Prompt response, and fixed my furnace issue same day. Didn't cost an arm and a leg, like some places I've dealt with in the past.
I would definitely recommend Joel, and his team to all of our friends and family, who have a need for plumbing or hvac issues. Very professional and personable.
Thanks Janet for the positive review.

G.O. Heating Ltd has received employee and/or sub-contractor complaints
Complaint: Hello,
I just worked for Joel vandenbroek. I am a licensed g2 hvac tech and refrigeration mechanic. Yesterday I replaced a furnace for a customer when all he needed was an electric heating strip. The repair is around 800$ but instead they sold him a 6000$ furnace. I worked 16 hours yesterday for him. Today he removed me from his scheduling apps and will not answer me. He owes me 1000$ for the couple days I worked. I have also spoken to 2 people that took him to court over some of the same scams seen on this website.
