This guy is bad news. He had a terrible rating on Trusted Pros so he started a new page. It's the same guy. Follow the link to see his terrible reviews, including one where he ripped off a disabled woman! https://trustedpros.ca/company/mike-auger-hammer-away-construction
My story is as follows:
I hired Mike Auger to sand and refinish my hardwood floors.
When he came to give a quote, he talked a good game. Said it's what his company does. They're experts. Claimed to be licensed and bonded.
I hired him and gave him a large deposit. He did indeed sand and stain the floors, but it looked like a toddler had done it. Instead of the beautiful sleek floors I imagined, I ended up with massive splotches and streaks, and deep scarred scuff marks from the sander. When I expressed concern halfway through the job, his response was, "Don't worry about the splotches. You can cover them with furniture."
When I texted and called him several times to attempt to rectify the matter, he ghosted me. Thank goodness for my other excellent contractors. They rallied, and found me another floor guy who was amazing. The new guy had his crew work nights to get it done so the other contractors could get in there and I could move in on time. But I'm out the sizable chunk of money I paid Mr Auger.
Every one of my other contractors (painters, railing guy, new floor guy, and carpet guys) all said they have never seen such a terrible flooring job. Mr Auger had no idea what he was doing.
Mike Auger of Cornwall misrepresented himself as a licensed and bonded expert, the address he gave on his invoices is phony, claims to be in Ottawa, but is actually in Cornwall, I can not find any record of his company Hammer Away Construction, and he is still advertising his services all over the net (some with another person named Nick Auger). If you're thinking of hiring him, I highly suggest you BEWARE! He's an amateur who does shoddy work for a quick buck, and he'll cost you money to fix his errors.
UPDATE to my review based on contractor response. You are correct in that I never had any dealings with a Nick Auger. However, you have advertised with his name alongside yours in the past year. If he doesn't want to be associated with you or your bad work, he needs to take that up with you.
My dealings with you would have been concluded if you had issued a refund or provided actual contact information so that you could be served instead of using several fake addresses. And when I find articles about you scamming a disabled woman, you bet I'm going to do my best to make sure people are aware of your terrible business practices. https://www.standard-freeholder.com/news/local-news/cornwall-contractor-accused-of-leaving-client-with-incomplete-project
The terrible half job you did for me was just over a year ago, and you have had several bad reviews since, so you created a whole new page attempting to distance yourself from your prior work. My review was to make sure people considering hiring you have the necessary information to make an informed decision. As a business owner myself, I am aware of just how hard it is to run a business. I am also aware that if I enter into a contract, I am obligated to fulfill that contract. I would never enter into a contract that I did not have the skills to complete, then expect the client to bear the costs of my mistakes, which is exactly what you did.
You bring up trying to make a living and supporting your kids, but you have no qualms about costing me, a single mother, thousands to fix your mistakes. Luckily I was in a position to be able to fix your mistakes. Have you made financial reparations to that disabled woman you scammed? That would go a long way to clean up your business reputation.
Bottom line: If you don't want negative reviews and upset clients, don't do terrible work and walk off jobs halfway through.
And while we're at it, can you provide your 'registered' business's address?
This review is not accurate and brining in Nick Auger is going to get her sued.
Nick Auger has nothing to do with Hammer Away Construction & Remodeling. Or any past work that was done for Chris.
I am Hammer Away Construction is a registered company.
Yes we work in Cornwall but Ottawa primarily.
Chris has not contacted me in almost 2 years... so I have no idea what she is talking about.
Just because she was um happy with he job, I charged for material and equipment I made no money off her job as I was not paid in full.
She even came over the night the stain was applied and demanded it to be stained a darker colour...which I did!
I spent more time and money doing it a second time.. obviously for more money... at the time this was not an issue. Until refusing to pay.
I agree the job could have been better. Sorry I really tried.
Now it seems this lady has it in for me. Im trying to make a living and support my children...
I learnt a lot on this job. 1 have a contract so I can prove my case... 2 I don't refinish floors any more.
But she just keeps running down my name and company...she obviously has no idea how hard it is to be in business for your self...
Hey Chris... if you want to talk call me 613-316-0456 tell me what you think you need to move on in life...
This is ridiculous.
What kind of reviews do you leave if your pizza is 20 min late?
Sorry I'm not perfect, its so nice that out of 200 jobs the 4-5 bad ones keep haunting me..
I'm not asking you to hire me but stop these ridiculous reviews... I a real person just like you...
