Left our house in shambles - bare ply floors, railings removed from stairs and hall to leave a one story drop, bathrooms poorly done. Ran off with over $1000 of our money and ghosted us. Abandoned his tools at our place.
Had to hire someone else to complete the job and re-do what he 'finished'. Unprofessional. Avoid.
Very disappointed with Jesse. He quoted me for this job. Took my deposit of $450. Promised to come on no less than 5 occasions and never showed up and is now ghosting me. I will be pursuing legal action to get my money back.
Unfortunately my experience was not the best. Jesse came in for a quote and said it would take three days to build my recessed wall, and that he had done tons of it so he had lots of experience. I gave a deposit for materials and work started. He worked the three days and the wall wasn't very close to being finished. He then said he was going to come back to finish on June 27, didn't show up nor messaged. I asked about status he said he'd come on June 30th (Thursday), I messaged in the morning to see if he was still coming and he said "most likely tomorrow". He didn't show up on the next day (Friday), nor the following (Saturday), and no message. On Sunday I sent a message to see what is up, he says "it's Canada Day I forgot and you haven't messaged me for three days either". ???? Says he'll come on Monday, but doesn't show nor messaged again. On Tuesday, now July 5th he says he'll come on Friday "but the job is more work than he thought it would be and he's very booked". I'm not sure how that is on me because if he was as experienced as he said he was, he would have known how much work it is? Didn't come Friday, showed up on Saturday at noon and left the wall as you can see in the photos. Said he was going to come back to sand because the wall needed to dry. Asked me for more money to which I said only when you finish since I had paid for 75% of the cost at this point and was being constantly stood up. That was on July 9. I didn't hear back at all, messaged him to see when he'd come and no answer despite having seen the message. I finally said on July 17 I will call someone else to finish the wall, since this is so unprofessional, to which he agreed it's better because he's so booked. Well the new guy (who's done great work for me in the past) came in and said the wall was a mess, the tape used on the edges had not stuck and was lifting everywhere. He spent 12.5 hours to fix it plus new materials. I was missing $450 payment to Jesse, had to pay this guy $725 instead because it took him very long to fix the wall. He actually told me most likely Jesse didn't want to come back to finish because it was so messed up that it'd take a lot of time still to make it look ok. I have no problems with Jesse as a person, he was always polite, even helped us bring a table from Home Depot the day he went to get more dry wall, he's a nice guy, but the work experience I had was the worst and that is what the review is based on. I'm sure he's doing good work for other people but it wasn't like that for me unfortunately as I was literally left hanging. EDIT: Showing that the price was given to me by Jesse in the pictures attached and at NO TIME I said I wasn't paying the amount he asked for or lowballed it. Also, I had initially asked for the shelves to be built as wood and he said drywall will cost the same but most of the money goes to him instead of materials since wood is expensive now, which I said sure. I'm sorry but to throw this on me is just another bad experience with this contractor for me.
Mostly true, but she knew her choice to go with the lower budget choice was more work on me, and when we discuss cost we agreed that if the job went longer, the price was $2000, and when she said there was only $450 remaining, instead of $650, that told me all I needed to know about her, so yes for the first time Hammer Town Handyman worried about his agenda instead of someone else s for a change and moved on to a more appreciative client.
In November of 2020, we hired a contractor to replace & install new eavestroughs. 3 weeks after they finished, we had a big snowfall, and when the temperature warmed up and all the snow had melted, we seen that the eaves were leaking on one side and both the front and back of the house. The contractor came back and supposedly fixed the leaks.A week later we had rain, and again seen leaks on the back and front of the house. The contractor returned and told us he fixed the problem. Another week went by and it rained again, and the leak at the front was worse. After numerous phone calls and excuses from this contractor, he stopped answering our calls to come and finish the job properly. He took our money and never came back. I had a garbage can catching all the leaking water from November until May. I called Jesse Harris, the Hammertown Handyman, and when he came on May 9th, it took him 5 minutes to diagnose the problem, and a couple of hours to dismantle and reinstall our front eavestrough correctly. After 7 months I was finally able to remove the garbage can from the front of my home. Jesse and his helper Spencer were very upfront on what they were doing, they politely answered all of my questions..I wouldn't hesitate to hire him again, It was very reassurring to me to have a professional come and do the job properly. I will be sure to tell all my friends to call the Hammertown Handyman, Jesse Harris if they have a job or project that needs done.
Mike, it s always been a pleasure working for you. It s unfortunate you went through what you endured with prior contractor, I sincerely hope I restored your confidence, there are some good ones out here working tirelessly to maintain a long standing commitment to their clients, I sir am one of those. And your positive feedback is very much appreciated.
