We hired Derek to do a complete gut and Reno of our 40+ year old home, including kitchen, bathrooms, basement and bedrooms. From the start, he showed ultimate professionalism. Derek seems to take a lot of pride in his work, and it shows. People are absolutely wowed when they enter my home now- And my husband and I couldn’t be happier with the end result. Despite the hiccups that come with renovating an older home, Derek was able to finish on time and on budget. We highly recommend House2Home Reno’s!!
Our experience working with Derek is not what others have described here. His work is definitely top notch and the final result looks good but working with Derek is very frustrating. He did not give details of his quote at the outset only to later ask us for more money stating he had to do work that was “out of scope”. The worst part was that he first did the work then told us the cost after. Our tiles were back ordered for a few weeks so he asked us to get tiles that will come earlier, he then failed to contact his tile subcontractor in time which resulted in delays to completing the whole project. This also meant that we could have kept our original tiles because the work was completed two weeks after our back order date. In addition, the tile work that was done was not done well and we had to identify the errors ourselves and have the subcontractor back to redo work. Lastly, Derek’s demeanour while at our house was relatable to a frat house at best. I was home with a baby during the renovations and was forced to listen to profanities coming from the basement almost regularly. He took every opportunity to make wise cracks about the work we did ourselves in the rest of the house and was generally acting like we’re high school buds versus clients of his.
Next to very high standards in workmanship, customer satisfaction is our highest priority. Every reasonable attempt to keep the customer happy is always made and we will go the extra mile to ensure that the customer is happy with the end result and the entire process. This project was no different. It is very unfortunate but there comes a point where you have to focus on moving forward. There are many inaccuracies in this review. Firstly, the increase in the price was only done after the homeowner made last minute changes to the project (eg: adding an entertainment wall, a custom extra-large shower with built in seating and multiple shower heads, among other things) that were not part of the original quote. The homeowner was aware that this was not part of the original quote and was informed at the time that there would be an additional cost. In most of the cases the changes had to be done on the spot so providing an accurate estimate in advance was not possible. This has never been an issue before, we will gladly accommodate changes to a project, and most homeowners understand that if you add work to the project there is an increase in labor costs. As for the issue with the tiles, the homeowner told us he was going to source the tiles from someone he knew, I informed the homeowner when the tiles needed to be on site. He was unable to get the tiles when the tilers were scheduled to come in, so the tilers had to be rescheduled. There was no failure on my end to confirm with the tilers. When the tiles came in we noticed that they had many variances in size and thickness. This issue was immediately reported to the homeowner who chose to proceed with the tiles anyway. The tilers did the best they could with the tiles provided. The issues the homeowners had with the tilers workmanship were promptly addressed and fixed the very next day. As for our demeanor, the homeowners were always spoken to in a polite and respectful manner. If we spoke casually and friendly, it was in response to how the husband communicated with us. I offer my sincere apologies if some of our private conversations were overheard. Sounds travels far in an empty basement. We were not aware that we could be heard. If this was brought to my attention at the time, we gladly would have spoken quieter. At no point did we make wise cracks about the homeowner or their work. In private conversations, we merely were identifying things that needed to be fixed. Examples of what we said are we need to fill in this gap or this needs to be replaced . We had no way of knowing who did the work, it was not said with any bad intentions. Lastly, the statement that this project was delayed is not accurate. There was a slight delay due to the extra requests from the homeowners but I personally came in on evenings, weekends and the long weekend to make up the time and ensure that this project was completed on time. Despite the challenges, we worked diligently to deliver a beautiful space for this family and I stand behind our work.
My wife and I decided it was time to renovate our basement and took on the unenvious task of getting quotations from multiple contractors. Time after time we encountered people who didn't call back, were out to lunch on pricing, or were just plain rude. Derek, on the other hand, was responsive, courteous, competitively priced and the consummate professional at every step.
For a project as large as our basement renovation (full kitchen, full bath, storage room, fireplace, multimedia hub), we were completely at ease through the entire process. He was insightful, offered suggestions where applicable and thought two steps ahead, making a wonderful living and entertaining area for our family.
His company name truly reflects the service he provides. Our house feels a little more like home through his workmanship and expertise.
We have had the pleasure of hiring Derek from House2Home for painting and odd jobs in both of our homes. We found him to be very professional and competitively priced. He was very respectful and dedicated. Additionally, we completely trust him enough that we just gave him the keys for the duration of the project and he locked up when he was done. The jobs were done very well. I have referred Derek to a few of our friends and they say the same thing. It is hard to find a good contractor and House2Home's is the one you want to hire!
Would highly recommend House2Home Renovations & Paint for any renovations! We have had many compliments on our basement. Derek went above and beyond when completing our basement renovation. Very professional, excellent quality of work.
My expectations were surpassed!
Derek from House2Home was not only courteous, punctual and extremely clean, but he also was very accommodating to our busy schedules.
Derek’s overall demeanor is very professional which also clearly shows in his workmanship. After each job, you would not have even known he was there. He left each area just as spotless (if not more) then he found it.
I would recommend House2Home to anyone looking for a contractor that you can rely on to enter into your home and treat it with the courteous respect we all wish for, and complete a job worthy of showing off to your guests.
