After meeting extensively with owner, Jason Roy, I decided that his friendly, straight talking, no-nonsense approach was what I needed in order to accomplish fairly extensive modifications and upgrades to a tired, architect-designed, four level, elevator-serviced home. Apart from his construction-informed knowledge and directness, his ability to provide fairly accurate estimations of costs involved was impressive. His accounting was also spot on and timely. At every turn he worked with me to provide efficient and cost-effective strategies and solutions to sometimes complex challenges. His craftsmen were equally competent, especially his lead "foreman" who accomplished construction and finishing tasks pretty much within budget. Jason was quick to engage competent subcontractors where needed and they proved to be very satisfactory and appropriate for my allocated budget and completion deadline of services. At every point in the process Jason provided sound oversight and brought helpful and often cost-effective suggestions to me at every challenge that was experienced. Included in the work was extensive kitchen reconstruction, three new bathrooms, new laundry, new utility room, total renovation and laying of new sub-floor and hardwood in a large basement, installation of new windows and related siding, refinishing of all interior surfaces, and remodelling of entrance and stairways. While most of the construction was completed in 2013 Jason and his team completed more work for me as recently as late 2015. I highly recommend using Jason's services for those home owners whose renovation ideals often exceed their modest budgets. In my case he helped me achieve very unique, architectural elements and effects / goals yet kept me relatively close to budget.
I have hired Jason Roy Renovations to complete a number of different renovations. Most recently a Kitchen and Basement renovation. The quality of Jason's work was excellent the transformation of these two areas was amazing. Jason was always available to take my calls, answer my questions and address any concerns I had. His people were courteous and friendly. Costs always matched what was quoted unless I wanted changes that would change the quote. Jason always communicated this clearly. I would recommend him to others and would hire him again.
Excellent craftsmanship, professionalism and close attention to detail. Entire crew was accommodating to our needs and wonderful to work with. Budget issues were dealt with in a transparent and fair manner. It was a very large project that changed over the course of execution and all changes were discussed before hand to ensure that we, as clients, were fully incorporated into the decision making process. The end results were wonderful.
Jason Roy was recommended by our real-estate agent. She claimed that she used his services on her own home. As first time home buyers, we thought we were getting a good recommendation. We closed on our house just before Christmas, and Jason said that his people would be able to work on it over the holidays. This was fine, as we still had our apartment until the end of January. The work ended up being completed in the second/third week of January after pushing for it to be completed.
Good:
* The finished bathroom looks really great.
* The baseboard fixes and paint touchups were flawless.
Problems:
* Jason purchased us a tub at home depot that was broken - the plumbers would not install it. He insisted that this was not his fault and charged us extra to go back to home depot and exchange it for a non-broken tub.
* The plumbers that were hired did not connect the overflow on our tub. There was a leak into our dining room. Jason sent his people to fix it - and it took them minutes.
* It took months for Jason to get his guy to just paint over the stain on the ceiling where the tub leaked. He claimed he wasn't going to do it because I said I was going to paint my own house - which we were going to do but didn't have a time frame planned.
* The bathroom sink wasn't sealed to the counter top. I spilled a glass of water on the counter and it leaked immediately.
* Toilet is severely wobbly after being installed 6 months ago.
* The paint job in the bathroom was terrible. There were no touchups of holes etc prior to painting. This was also shocking after the care that went into the baseboard paint touch ups.
* I had to remind Jason about things in his quote that he neglected to have finished, ie. re-painting of bathroom vanity cabinet and painting of door trim.
* Jason never came and checked on his people or verified that the work was finished properly.
