Jeff Young - Tile and Flooring Expert

Unfortunately my girlfriend and I mistakenly trusted a so-called "professional" contractor to refinish the hardwood floors in our 1st ever home.

Our realtor recommended * Jeff Young-Schouten * who stated he was a "flooring expert" and therefore we hired him. After speaking with a few professionals in the trade afterwards, we discovered that many mistakes were made during the job.

1. Jeff applied the stain unevenly with only one coat.

2. The polyurethane was applied within the same day before the stain could fully dry.

3. Grooves were left throughout the floor from him sanding too deeply/unevenly.

4. Stain was left on our wood trim/doors (the quoted price was to include clean-up).

All of which can be seen in the photos below.

Numerous attempts were made to resolve this issue since then. We initially requested that Jeff repair the floors he ruined. After him being intentionally elusive and making numerous excuses as to why he could not come back to the house; we eventually just asked for a refund (which we never received).

We will now be fixing the floors ourselves with the help of our family. Not only has this affected us financially but we will now have to be displaced from our home while the floors are being repaired. Jeff was made fully aware of all of this.

Long story short, this was a life-lesson learned, and we will never recommend Jeff’s services in the future.

Regardless, we are still so excited for our new home but just wanted to attempt to stop this from ever happening to anyone else!

We hired Jeff to modernize our kitchen with a new backsplash. From estimate to job completion Jeff was professional and true to his word. We are very pleased with the finished product and will be calling him back again as we tackle more home improvements.
