This contractor tricked us into paying him by time and not by work completed (we were mistaken to agree to this and didn't know better, but he was a scam artist).
When his work was progressing MUCH slower than predicted and we did not want to pay him the whole amount, he stopped work and left with 75% of our money. This was an amount of several tens of thousands of dollars.
We pursued him in court and won. This contractor went bankrupt for nearly 300,000CAD (including what he owed us and other people), and the court was not able to reclaim any of the money he owed because he put everything in his wife's name. We also pursued him with the RBQ and won.
He has since opened up under another Quebec Inc. and continues to do work. I do not believe anyone should do business with this contractor.
