Jonathan Christopher Rowe, Tracey Graves and Tristan Rowe, operating as Jett Group were engaged to build an addition on our house. Jett Group said permits were done when in fact the city had no record of ever receiving them. In conversation Jonathan Rowe will tell you that Jett Group stands for Jonathan , Ethan, Tristan and Tracey. He is correct, he will take your money and use it to maintain his family's standard of living without doing any work on your property. He has a criminal indictment for 12 counts of fraud over 5,000$ against him (Superior court of justice file 14-7-0000487). The Criminal case will be laid down on Oct 9, 2015.
Warning: DO NOT HIRE Jonathan Rowe or JETT GROUP or any of his other companies either!!! His is a scam artist. He acts as a construction company then rips off his clients and never pays them back after destroying their homes.
Please to do not engage with or trust Jonathan Rowe or any persons operating under the guise of Jett Group, Jett Restorations, Gett Group or Jonathan Rowe Group of Companies.
Jonathan/Jon is extremely polished, presentable and very amenable. He used his limited construction knowledge, professional contacts (whom he also fooled) and his skill at building rapport to convince us to engage into a contract for home renovations in the GTA.
I just found out I was pregnant with my second child when my husband and I signed a non-revocable contract with Jonathan to lower our basement using the highly technical underpinning method, construct an extension of our basement with a rear stairway and entry and finish the basement (a $100,000+ job). He took at 35% deposit at the time of signing however had built such rapport with us and came recommended by our architect that we didn't think anything of it. The work was meant to commence April 1st 2014 and finish at the latest by the end of July, just before my son's birth.
He assured us that he had been in the business for 25 years, that he works for the city of Toronto as a contractor extensively, that he had numerous teams of skilled trades, that he had the appropriate licences and insurance including WSIB and structural liability insurance, and that he had a team experienced with underpinning Toronto homes - ALL LIES.
The start of our project was delayed by a month and a half and just prior to starting he convinced us to provide another advance of 21% of our total project cost to cover monies he had supposedly already sunk into the project (effectively topping up his line of credit) and to not incur change order costs that he estimated to be close to $15,000.
One month into the excavation work for the underpinning we finally realized that there was something horribly wrong with the work completed to date by his "overzealous" labourers. They had vertically cut and undercut in some areas the soil that provides stability and support for the footings, which was contrary to our structural drawings and the City of Toronto notes on our permits. Upon consultation with our structural engineer we were advised to carry out the underpinning immediately as the structural integrity of our 1920's semi-detached home was now compromised.
We were horrified as I was now 7 months pregnant and we were living in the house during the renovation. Every rumble of the streetcar passing by during those days sent shivers up my spine. Luckily we had on hand an alternative sub-contractor who dropped everything to restore stability to our house and complete the underpinning work a week after my son was born.
In the meanwhile Jonathan distanced himself from our project while feeding us many false promises of returning the funds allocated for the underpinning work so that we could pay our sub-contractor, with the hope that he could continue the remaining part of the extension work. Since then Jonathan has admitted to only spending on $4,100 on our job and has strung us along for more than 10 months with guarantees of the return of the remainder of our money.
He has demonstrated no regard for our property or our well-being / safety. Funny enough, we consider ourselves lucky that our house did not collapse and that after weeks and months of prolonged stress and false hope we received some refunds, but not all. That being said, we are still trying to finish our basement which is likely not going to be complete for several more months and will require us to borrow more money to finish.
Given our experience and in speaking with others who have engaged with Jonathan, we believe he either takes your money without completing any work or uses inferior labour and/or materials and hammers you with constant delays to coerce you into firing him and allowing him to walk away with your money. Jonathan is neither a professional nor trustworthy - please do not be fooled by him.
Jonathan Rowe-Jett Group failed to complete our project in its entirety. He used unlicensed individuals for electrical and plumbing. No permits.
Jonathan Rowe signed a contract with us to perform work on our house to do major structural work, electrical, plumbing, HVAC.On February 24, 2014 we signed an agreement, addendum to contract and estimate to perform the following renovation services:
* Obtain permits and required drawings for structural work approval
* Removing load bearing walls
* Increase the opening of the backdoor
* Move the powder room to a new location on the first floor
* Deliver a full custom kitchen
* Install, sand and stain new oak floors
* Finish the basement bedroom
* Install plaster crown moldings
* Complete necessary HVAC, electrical and plumbing work
Pursuant to the contract, work was to commence March 2, 2014, however work did not commence until March 5, 2014. Under the terms of our set contract, work was to be completed in 90 days. It has now been over twelve plus months (approx. 400 days outstanding) and the project is not complete.(Some of) The individuals hired to complete the work were on site never having (personally) met Jonathan once. (Although you undertook only a small portion work under contract,) the majority of that work had showed avoidable flaws and had showed a sever lack of quality - certainly not to the agreed upon standards. Individual "sub-contractors" were often references of references, or from Kijiji and arrived to work never having met Jonathan or receiving instructions on the scope/quality of work contracted. Further, it also came to our attention (much later that) many of the subtrades hired were not licenced to perform many of the jobs Jonathan had them preform. The following individuals were illegally performing work without the proper credentials and experience. I.e. hooking up the tankless hot water heater and gas lines, etc.
All of the above and more and had led us to totally lose confidence in J. Rowe's ability to maintain written standards, let alone comply with the verbal promises of our business relationship. On Saturday, August 2, 2014, Jonathan R. showed up at our house and removed equipment and tools, we haven't seen him since. The last reply we received from J. Rowe about our job and contract was on August 7, 2014 stating he will "send over a response so you could get this job finished", which he did not follow-up on. (As of the above date, the work under contract has not been finished and left the worksite uninhabitable leaving us no place to live since our temporary tenancy had long expired by then. We then spend huge additional amounts of our own to set up our totally unfinished kitchen, walls, basement etc. to finally put a roof over our heads, however below contracted quality.) Under many discussions, pleas and requests we are still waiting for Jonathan to finish the job he started. We have requested a refund for the pre-payments we gave him which we have not received a dollar back.

Jett Group has received employee and/or sub-contractor complaints
Complaint: Well, I have to confirm the claims/reviews listed below.
I worked for Jonathon Rowe for a year or so, and could not believe the work he was doing and how he manipulates people. Including me.
I personally did work on Melissa's home, and was appalled at how he manipulated the young couple. I even halted the demolition and re-enforcement of the back wall she is talking about, because it started to crack and knew it would only be a matter of moments before the whole wall would collapse.
I can go on about this guy and his shady deals...but in the end, the conclusion is the same....STAY AWAY!!
I was ripped off over $5000...but the pain and suffering of Melissa and a bunch of others and the hell they went through was unbelievable.
Glad I walked away...but should have done it a lot sooner..
