Finally I am compelled to put in writing the numerous errors and shoddy workmanship I've endured with Gary and his crew through two different fairly major jobs they performed for me over the past 3 years. From finding out through strata complex contractors that the potlights in my new bathroom hadn't been capped and live wires were almost touching my attic insulation, an extreme fire hazard that was almost missed , to me having to tell his crew to redo my laminate flooring and tell them how to install it correctly around door frames instead of what they had done, which was to simply jigsaw around door jambs and frames, leaving a visible, ragged edge. His crew loved my way (I spent 20 min. googling in advance, which apparently made me more knowledgeable than they were). The floor vents barely fit in the holes that were cut, falling right in the hole if I even touch the edge of them. Toilet not anchored, taps not working, etc. etc. Then I goofed again by hiring them to put my new biz location together. Yee Gods! The woodworking/building was great, but Gary had young, inexperienced guys who didn't know how to install a vanity, leaving an ugly gash of sealant slopped against walls, mirror sliding off wall and shattering beside my staff, grouting so thick that it conrstantly cracks and breaks up. Racks screwed into drywall with no anchors and falling out within a week.
New Plexiglass windows installed that were scratched and when I told him, no response.
I truthfully can't remember all the screw ups, but today was the final straw. With my customers standing right below it, a heavy light fixture mounted on the ceiling lost it's grip on one end and literally was dangling from 2 screws. We found that one entire end was simply screwed directly into drywall ceiling with no anchors, with the whole weight held on the other end by 2 screws.
Thank Goodness nobody was hurt!
Gary is very personable, but he has no ability to oversee his crew, and follow-ups are only for the first mistake and good luck getting him back to fix the others unless you really yell.
He has consistently shown the same unprofessional traits with every job and I ask anyone reading this to seriously reconsider hiring this company.
Project completed over three years ago. I have no idea what was done as I never got a chance to fix any problems. Would have been better to call me to have things repaired than post feedback and try and ruin my reputation.
Gary, unfortunately, has excuses for everything. The ceiling panel he appeared at my home with was grooved wall panel...No one, I mean no one would allow this to be installed. In his response he said he was going to install it over the damaged drywall he installed...No, absolute lies. I made sure I had a witness when he came to look at the cracked ceiling next day after it was "repaired" for the 3rd time. He was going to bring in a crew and have them remove the mess and then install the wall panel in its place. As for his work ethic...his workers left a shop lamp on and shoved it under my dining room table, up against their shop vac and left for lunch. Luckily I was home...within 5 minutes of them leaving I could smell buring plastic and went out of my bedroom to investigate. The shop hose was a thread of plastic in the middle. If I hadn't been there to catch this, I have no doubt I would have come home to a pile of ashes, not to mention a dead dog! I have no reason to lie or try to create problems. If Gary had done what I wanted in the first place, maybe we wouldn't be in this predicament. Right from the start I said I wanted ceiling panel and specifically stated numerous times that I did not want drywall because everytime I did my laundry, the washing machine on spin cycle made the whole place vibrate and I feared that drywall would crack. He apparently thought he was a know it all and pushed to install it and guaranteed that if problems arose, he would fix it. So, yeah...grooved wall panel isn't exactly what I call a fix. My ceilings are a mess and Gary has to come to terms that he did a terrible job and abandoned it because I refused to allow him to install grooved wall panel on my ceilings. I did not pay good money to make my home look like shite...unfortunately, that's exactly how it looks! With regards to all the " freebies" he says I asked for, I put all that in the contract that I WROTE and had to chase him down to sign...it stated clearly that I would pay for the things he mentioned...but he specifically told me to remove them from the contract as he did not want CMHC to see this..I did and still stated what I would pay for in an email to him...even though I started to realize he was ripping me off . I have emails to prove this and everything else. I have no reason to lie...He is a real piece of work! When I complained to BBB, all he seemed concerned about was the complaint and he wanted me to remove all complaints as part of a negiotion deal...that of course isn't going to happen as I believe consumers have the right to rate and review those they hire!
We have not abandoned the job. She threatened me when I last went to her house. We have repaired her ceiling three times after installing the ceiling. She does not seem to realize that there may be a problem with her trailer other than just the drywall installed. She was happy with the ceiling and then it cracked two to three weeks later. It was not known why it cracked but I dropped everything and sent two guys back to repair the ceiling. She was again happy but it again cracked. It should be noted that all the joints were taped and she is fully aware of that but the drywall cracked despite the mud and tape being replaced three times. She asked that panels be placed over the ceiling and in order to try and make her happy, I told her we would apply paneling on the ceiling and she agreed until I showed up with it and she refused. We cleaned her house everyday when we were finished. There was never any mention of the panel being changed and she only wanted to add that on for free after the work started. I have now been forced, for the first time in 6 years, to consult a lawyer. It should be noted as well that she had us do extra work to the lights in the kitchen and hallway that she added to our list. We did that extra work that she has never paid for it or added that to her complaint. I have made repeated attempts to try and make her happy and she keeps changing what she wants. Now she is complaining to try and get me to do even more work for free.
