For 100K contract value you can't afford to go wrong with your general contractor. It all started in Oct 2015 when we've opened the bid process. Out of about 6 valid offers, we've streamlined it to two of them in the final and Tony got it (or Kingsway Home Improvements). We have to say that at that time we were hoping to have taken the wisest decisions but no matter how good you are in selecting, there is a lottery that only the time can confirm that is was or not the best avenue. Even after checking the references.
Then April 2016 came and the garbage bin was dropped in the driveway (I had to shovel the snow that morning)!
Contract was clear, starting date, duration (approx 4 months) and scope too.
I will start with keeping the word in commitments. We all know that this business is full of delays, etc, especially these days making us (customer) feeling vulnerable. Well, no surprise there with Tony, actually he was earlier in few deliverables. The subcontractors were strongly managed (I assume he made his life easier on that due to durable relationships established with them over the years).
Then unforeseeable problems came with the house when you tear apart the walls. I will mention here only the water infiltration discovered after we've removed the sofa that was sitting against that wall for 10 years. No issue there too, we were treated fair and problem was solved.
We lived in the house during the whole renovation. Imagine being in a moving train and asked to move from one wagon to the other because there is work to do. It was fun and is worth it to say that we were helped be these guys. Clean, tight, organised just to name a few. Tony was there every day checking for that.
There were debates while on the go i.e. we would like to do it this way, Tony believed differently. In all cases we came up with a common denominator and reasonable deviations scope/price. His ethics are great.
We can add more but we believe is enough for whomever reads to conclude that Kingwsay Home Improvements deserves best marks for all of the criteria below. Thank you!
