Ian was hired to paint several rooms and trim in our house. He did not prep the trim or walls. He painted over gashes in walls rather then fill them in. When asked if he could caulk seams between wall and trim, he responded that he was not a plumber. The painted trim was covered with dust. Would not recommend.
Wow, after many positive reviews, this is my first negative one and I am trying to be calm and collected. This was a challenging customer and the job was not completed. We arrived on a settlement for the time spent and decided to part ways.
Yes, I was hired to paint this family s main hallway, family room and kitchen (walls, trim & ceiling), the main upstairs bathroom (walls, trim & ceiling), as well as the upper staircase and hallway, including all trim and doors in and around those rooms. I met with the client more than once prior to the start of the job and reviewed the work room by room. There were items discussed specifically door frames, fireplace, trim caulking and they were excluded by the client.
When we arrived on the first day, the house was filthy. When we pulled the furniture away from the walls, the floors and trim were covered in dust. We used rags to wipe each section of trim before it was painted (which took us longer to finish each step than I had planned). They also let their dog loose in the house during the time we were there and there were times when dog hair got stuck onto the wet paint. When we saw this, we fixed it, but this obviously continued when we were not around.
Also on that first day, the client asked about painting the fireplace. I said that this had not been included in the quote, as per our previous discussions. I would be happy to add this service but there would be an additional charge. The client did not want to pay for this. That day, the client also asked about caulking the gap between the baseboard/trim and the walls. Again, I mentioned that this was not part of the written quote as per our previous conversations. I said that caulking was not my area of expertise since I was not a plumber but I would be willing to address their concern but there would be an additional charge. Again, the client did not want to pay.
After finishing the ceilings, trim and all doors, the customer sent an email to raise their concerns. I offered to meet with them on several occasions and they did not respond for several days. They set up times to meet (of their choosing), then did not answer the door when I arrived (I noted that their vehicles were parked in the driveway and street at the time). I had a lengthy conversation with the client s wife and she offered to pay me $200 for the 20+ man hours that had been spent on site (not including the quote, earlier conversations and mileage for repeated appointments). A settlement was reached and they agreed to leave the cheque, as well as my tools, drop sheets, etc. outside on the porch. Upon arrival, the items were not left outside as agreed and I had to ring their doorbell again. They had bundled and stuffed all of my tools and sheets into my basket with no regard for whether anything got damaged.
It should be mentioned that there was no prep work done on the walls because we did not get that far into the project. We only completed the ceilings, trim and doors. In my conversation with the client s wife, she mentioned her concerns about the lack of prep work . She seemed to feel that it was our job to wash the walls prior to painting. This was never discussed as an option, this was not quoted, nor would I have included this in my service.
An additional item that seems to have slipped this client s mind: during my first visit to this client s house, he mentioned in conversation that he was having issues with water flow in the upstairs bathroom. I spent some time investigating the problem, removed debris from the filter in the faucet, and the water flow was returned to normal. They were never billed for this service, it was simply performed as a courtesy and the client expressed his gratitude at the time.
I am extremely disappointed by the experience and certainly do not set out to lose money or leave jobs incomplete. We take great pride in our customer service and the quality of our workmanship.
Monarch is the only cleaning company to be able to clean my windows without streaking. We live in a townhouse condo and had him back to do all the windows in the community. The residents all love him. He is polite, hard working, honest and does a great job. Will only use them in the future.
My partner and I are extremely impressed with the work that Ian did for us. He was very professional and his communication was faultless. I know very little about home improvements but Ian was very knowledgeable and always updated me on his progress. We asked Ian to fix our kitchen cabinet that was coming away from the wall and also to backsplash our kitchen walls. We love the end result and constantly getting compliments from friends. I would and have recommended Ian to friends and would definately use him again for any future projects. He ensured his working area was clean at the end of the dayand offered good helpful advuce when it came to us picking out our tiles and grout. Really pleased with the whole experience.
