I hired Tim Kyte to do some painting since I met him a few years back and trusted him. Mistake # 1. He came to my home and took notes knowing very well things had to be prepped and then painted along with some kitchen caulking around the counter. He texted me saying his computer had something wrong to email him what I needed done again.
Don't do this as this was his idea of a contract. He will use it against you. Make sure you get a professional quote and contract, in lots of detail, and don't pay him cash.
The trust was lost from the beginning sorry to say, as I thought I could give him more work. But that wont happen.
He showed up with another painter who I didn't know, and brought him into my home without asking me. They worked fine and fast, but at what cost. Detail work not sufficient, kitchen caulking was not replaced so old stuff coming off.
Take your time and shop around. The good ones are busy but wait and get quotes and references. I let my guard down and no reference check or proper contract.
