Norm built me a 6x6 landing and stairs from my second door to my backyard. His craftsmanship was excellent. His price was fair; by far the lowest price of any quote I received. He was finished in a day. :)
I contacted Norm's Handyman service off of a Kijiji add and got them to quote me on a fence price per foot. I thought the price was fair so I had them out for an estimate. I had sent them my RPR earlier in the week so I assumed the dimensions would be pretty straight forward. They claimed that the RPR wasn't clear so they measured my yard incorrectly and decided to add another 5 feet. and we started discussing options. They then told me that if I wanted 6x6 posts it would cost an extra $15 per post. Then they told me if I wanted a gate it would be another $400 (which I thought seemed really high). They sent me an estimate through email at $ 2845 plus an additional $325 if I wanted 6x6 posts. According to math that works out to 21 posts for 100 feet of fence. I've never seen a fence that needs a post every 5 feet. So I started negotiating the price down with one of their employees. He said he'd give me a discount on the gate (down to $275) and would only charge me for 15 posts. I thought that was reasonable but then i figured out that they were charging me for 105 feet on the estimate. I asked why and it is because I didn't account for the 4 feet of gate. I told them I'm already paying between $275-$400 for the gate why am i also getting charged 22$ per foot on the gate? At that point I got a text from a higher ranking staff member named Norm. He told me he could do the Fence for $2600 all in including tax. I wanted to verify that I was getting what I wanted for that price. I asked him specifically if I was getting 15 6x6 posts 100 feet on pressure treated wood and a gate. He confirmed that I was correct and it will be in the service agreement. I said great we have a deal when can we get started. He said he'd let me know when he could make it out. I received a tex the very next morning saying that he had made a mistake and quoted me on 4x4 posts despite me confirming everything not even 12 hours earlier. I said I was disappointed and I thought we had an agreed upon deal. His response was mistakes happen and he didn't understand my disappointment. I explained why I was disappointed he then proceeded to tell me to look elsewhere on Kijiji. I still wanted to do business with this company so I asked what price they could give me on the fence with no gate. I was told by Norm that he is no longer interested in pursuing this project with me. I attempted to call Norm and ask for further explanation. I was treated rudely and hung up on. I've never written a bad review about anyone but this really rubbed me the wrong way. I expect companies to honour the deals they make. I have this whole conversation with these employees in my email and texts. Very disappointed in Norm's Handyman Service.
Norm did a beautiful job. We are very happy with the results. Norm helped to design the layout, took care of the plumbing, electrical, built walls and finished in the time he promised. If you need any renovations done, call Norm. We would highly recommend his work to anyone
Install a Screen/Storm door.
It turned out to be a lot more work than expected.
Took much longer than expected, not their fault. The house had shifted. They had to make a lot of improvisations.
The final result is fantastic.
Excellent Work. I will use them again.
