I had hired Toni back in 2012 under NX Building and Maintenance Services. He has now works under Brightwave Construction. He misrepresented his and his workers credentials as I found out he was unlicensed and was unable to handle a full home renovation. I was left finding sub-trades. He also provided me unlicensed electricians, unknown to me, who pulled the permit under another company. He also exceeded the budget without my permission, provided inaccurate quotes and later overcharged me.
After he refused to settle on a price, he left me stranded with no functioning kitchen and with numerous deficiencies that I had to pay thousands of dollars to repair and complete. He also put an exaggerated lien on my property and forced us into an expensive litigation process. He made false claims that included him denying he was paid cash for an electrician payment.
He charged around $75,000, after the fact, for my 1000sqft house for drywall, some framing and insulation (the original framing was kept especially on the second level, most framing had to do with adding batt insulation, reframing a couple of walls and tray ceiling), painting (he attempted to charge for 24 doors to paint when there were only 14 doors), demolition (he attempted to charge for an extra wall to demolish among other items), bins (he provided tampered receipts and attempted to charge for bins I didn’t use), interior doors, tub, microwave and laundry duct work, plumbing, casings, trim, baseboards, installation only (I paid for materials) of tiles, hardwood, cabinets, plumbing fixtures, microwave and sliding doors.
I paid sub-trades directly around $55,000 for roofing, windows, exterior doors, cabinets, tiles, hardwood, electricians, HVAC (furnace, ductwork, A/C), permits, plumbing fixtures, countertops and microwave. Therefore, I was shocked at his pricing, considering amount how much I completed with less money, the delays, unprofessionalism and mistakes.
Some of the deficiencies included(please see pictures): missed structural issues, improper tiling, improper cabinet installation, improper duct work installation, improper door handle installation (cracked all the interior doors), improper baseboard, trim and casing installation (did not pin causing gaps, uneven), improper installation of hardwood (staggering incorrect, inserted short piece), left gaps around the house where insect and vermin could enter, unclean worksite as he left pile a garbage, improper drywall and framing installation (bowed walls, gaps), tilted window.
