We hired this firm to do some repairs on our home in order to sell. We were moving to Halifax and asked if the work could be done before our move. We were verbally assured it would be so went ahead with hiring Oneway construction.
We were told for weeks on end that the work would commence at the end of the week and each end of week came and went and nothing. Three days before our movers arrived the work had not commenced and we were told due to a family crisis that Oneway would not be starting any new projects at that time. We were respectful of this situation but as a result we were no longer in a position to wait as we had a vacant house for sale and we were living in Halifax. We sold our home "as is" and cancelled with Oneway.
It is not our fault that they could not fulfill the contract in the time we needed and understood to have agreed upon.
We have asked for our deposit back for months to no avail. We have sent emails, left phone messages and tried to send two Registered letters by mail. Both letters were returned by Canada Post as the address on the contract/business website is not complete. We paid a deposit of 8,249.00 for work which did not commence.
This firm has made one response in all this time telling us they would get back to us at the end of the week...and once again...the end of the week came and went.
This is no way to conduct business and we are very disappointed with the whole experience to date.
We made a complaint to the BBB of Ottawa and Oneway has ignored all three notices from the BBB. I do not understand why they would treat us in this manner but I am not the only complaint filed with a similar story. Check out their BBB rating.
I have documented all my emails with dates sent. My Son called and spoke to Delia on October 2, 2018 and explained the situation. I was standing next to him at the time. Delia said she was not in the office at this time and would get back to him on it. She never did.
I called on October 18th and left a message asking that they return our call and get back to us.
They never did.
On Nov 7th they responded to us for the first time since our last email from them on August 13th at 6:18 pm. They said on Nov 7th they would get back to us at the end of the week.
We heard nothing until January 7th. We sent an email via BBB Ottawa on Jan 6th.
We have not received any letter or cheque in the mail to date. If and when we do we will notify you. I am hoping it arrives and due to the mail strike and backlog over Xmas I will give it a week or two?????
They claim they have had problems with their email account...fine but that does not mean we did not email them or call. I have kept track of all my email dates and attempts. If the emails were not delivered I would have gotten a delivery notice each time saying so. They claimed back in July that our emails went to the spam account because I complained about a lack of communication then as I was getting fed up with being told the end of the week and then left hanging.
We had to chase them down. I ask you what kind of company does not contact a client in months?
All the effort has been on our part to resolve this issue and I am fed up.
I feel I have been very patient in this matter. The refund cheque in the mail is for 6,186.75 which is 2062.25 less than our deposit? Not sure what the difference is as the work was not started?

First, we would like to apologise for your disappointment.
Following our conversation on November 7th, 2018. We have mailed out a cheque refund along with a letter of cancellation-to the given address. If you haven t received it, please let us know immediately so we can investigate and cancel the payment as soon as possible.
Please note we have not received any calls, voicemails or emails in this regard. We did have issues with the email providers with outgoing/incoming emails, but it s resolved now.
We sincerely apologise for this inconvenience as we strive in customer service and quality service. It is our best intentions to get this solved and rectified immediately.
My experience with Oneway Construction was very unpleasant. Here are the course of events.
February 14, 2018- signed a contract with Oneway Construction for bathroom and kitchen renovation. Gave Wesley Hunt a 50% deposit by cheque in the amount of $4,407, which was cashed immediately. Wesley verbally guaranteed that the work would be completed by April 30. By the end of April, Wesley apologized for not being able to start the job because of delays in previous projects (according to him) and said that he would start May 18 which did not happen.
May 22- Oneway Construction came and took measurements and Wesley said he would get back to me with a start date which he never did.
June 4- Oneway Construction e-mailed me that a relative was very sick and they couldn’t start any new projects. I was offered the option of getting a full deposit refund. The same day I e-mailed back that I did want a full deposit refund.
As of July 2, no refund has been given to me, even though I was promised several times that a certified cheque would be delivered to my home. Every time there was a different excuse why they couldn’t bring or mail the cheque. Also, they completely ignored a letter from a lawyer that I hired about demanding payment.
All previous reviews that I read about this company do not jibe with my experience, which is puzzling. Based on my interaction with Oneway Construction, they do not seem to have a code of ethics or professional behaviour. Unfortunately, I cannot comment on the quality of work as it was never delivered.
UPDATE: This update is in response to comments made by Wesley Hunt of Oneway Construction, regarding the above review. Unfortunately, the only truth in his comments is that eventually he did refund me the deposit. I will leave it at that.
To whom this may concern,
Mrs. Wolfe agreed to have her small repair project fit in between bigger projects when a time in the schedule became available. After only one week Mrs. Wolfe became very eager to have it done, even though the agreement was to fit her project when time became available, no set date was given. We received the deposit when the contract was signed, the deposit cheque was deposited two days later, not realizing this would be an issue.
We gave Mrs. Wolfe the option for refund of deposit since she decided not to wait any longer for when time became available between bigger projects as originally agreed upon. Mrs. Wolfe decided to terminate the contract- We processed the contract termination letter in a timely manner, and refund shortly after when the letter was signed. Unfortunately my mother has been diagnosed with advanced cancer and I had to go out of town for this purpose which delayed the cheque delivery by a couple of days. July 2nd was Canada day holiday, therefore the refund cheque was delivered on July 3rd in full when our offices reopened after the long weekend.
We kept contact with Mrs. Wolfe throughout the whole process. All of our customers have been more than understanding with my family's unfortunate situation except Mrs. Wolfe.
We wish Mrs. Wolfe and her family all the best and it's unfortunate that her experience with our company was disappointing as she states above. We strive in customer satisfaction and quality services.
Excellent service, excellent communications. From the first moment I engaged Oneway Construction for my project, I was very impressed with the level of communication and respect for my time. The crews showed up on time, did excellent work, and cleaned up beautifully at the end of each day. Could not recommend more! We are so happy with our addition, they are so talented, the work is beautiful, thank you.
