This company screwed us for 9000$. One of their contractors laid tiles in our new house before we moved in. About 48 hrs after tiles were laid we went to check on them and they all lifted up. I contacted the owner Danielle and she blamed it on us and not the fact that the tiles were set on a wrong subfloors (chip board). We tried to resolve the conflict by asking them to repair their work. The company stopped replying. I contacted the handyman and we agreed he will fix our backyard instead of reimbursing us. It was in May. He dragged it till now and just told us he got fired and won’t be doing the work. We paid them 6500$ for a job and supplies were ours. We couldn’t salvage it. It’s close to 3000$ of waste in materials. Stay away. We are going to small claims court on Monday.
Had Dave come and Reno my ensuite bathroom. I purchased all supplies that I was requested to plus others I was not. I had purchased schluters kerdi membrane for the shower area as I wanted a waterproof shower as per TTMAC wet area industry standards and He didn’t install it. Said he has never had a shower that leaked and I know within maximum five years I’ll have mild and leaking issues. I have had to chase him to return the rolls of membrane that I purchased as they were removed from my house. One was returned and to date he has not returned or refunded me the cost in the second roll though he said he would. I am still waiting for an invoice for the job as well. The plumbing was installed incorrectly for the hanging vanity which he fixed by opening the wall and adjusting it. He left the vanity there with no drywall behind it which he said he would put in after the counter was installed. The shower door was predrilled prior to asking how we wanted the door to open which resulted in grout filling the holes. The glazed tile that is in the shower was cut by a hand cutter and not a wet saw causing all of the glazed tile to be chipped. In the end I was charged and additional 1100 to finish the job that was quoted before starting the job as per scope and when I said I didn’t have that he walked away from the job without completing the shower grout or the pan ledge. We agreed on 600 for him to finish the shower. I had to install the light fixtures, toilet, toilet ball valve, and all the trim as well as paint. Would I recommend this company for any Reno’s ? No at all. Emails and text messages go unanswered. Stay away as far as wet area bathrooms are concerned. TTMAC and schluter systems will also be contacted to resolve the issues among ones to come with a improper wet area applications according to the industry standards of TTMAC.
I would like to answer on a few things Dave has mentioned in his rebuttal. First off Happy Customers don’t complain. There are a number of inaccuracies in Dave’s response. First of all the Reno was not underway. Nothing had been started as Dave’ lead guy was sick and off for a week. Timelines dictated having to sub out the job. The bathroom had already been completely demo’d Right down to studs. The floor was taken out to expose everything for the work to be done. The walls were already insulated with batt insulation so no Dave you did not insulate the bathroom. Perhaps a small amount above the window. I know what’s behind the walls do you? When you say floated and primed are you talking about sanding the walls? I can tell you that I sanded the walls and primed them. You printed the ceiling and after 2 coats said it would not cover. The financial delays that was going on were more in the respect of paying the 2800.00 per week for labour charges. When you asked for the additional 1100.00 I wanted a break down of where the money went. I don’t just hand over more money because I’m asked to. The dry wall completion that you refer to if it’s the drywall behind the vanity let me tell you I have pictures of that. It’s a shelf like backer board and not drywall. Now when I bought the Kerdi floor pan I removed it from the box. The floor pan came with its own membrane. So you expect me to believe that you used 48 sq ft of membrane in my shower? You did use 1.5 rolls of the 5” Kerdi band and part of one roll of Kerdi membrane. I did supple the Kerdi corner pieces as well. The vanity dimensions supplied were not wrong. They were supplied by the bath depot and the vanity that we picked up was the exact one for those dimensions. You mention moving the plumbing. That’s part of what you were paid to do as part of the Reno. You did forget to mention how you botched out structure to run the plumbing and before the flange was installed I asked you about proper venting for which you had to run the vent pipe. Why would I know this? I’m not a contractor. The picture that you posted is a good picture. What you are saying is that the “ full” tile is true for the entire enclosure. I was speaking of the chips in the cut glazed tile that is on either side of the crater octoganal tiles. Certainly were cut and by hand not by a wet saw. Again I’m not a contractor. Oh and about the HST. When did you ever speak to me about HST? You would have had to provide some type of invoice to be paid. I challenge you to provide proof of this conversation where I refused to pay HST that I was never made aware of in the first place.
In response to this review:
We were initially contacted to complete a job that was already underway bu Mark Cross of Mr. Kitchens. He was the General Contractor that was hired by Mr. Tim Hannah for a bathroom renovation. Mark Cross explained to us that he had a job underway that he was unable to complete as he needed to go for shoulder surgery. We agreed to meet Mr. Cross at the job site. He said that the job had to be completed for $5,600.00. We said that we would do our best to complete the job within that budget, as long as there were no unexpected costs. We provided a two week timeline.
The bathroom demo had already been started. We completed the demo. We did the plumbing, wiring, finished the framing, closed in the floor (was bare studs) insulated walls, dry-walled, taped, floated and primed.
The customers statement that he bought materials was a decision that had been made before we were hired. The materials that the homeowner purchased was of his own accord, and nothing requested by us. This job was frequently delayed by the homeowner having to deal with his bank to get funds for materials. There were also frequent delays because the homeowner had to go pick up material, missing material, short materials. The home owner would tell us that certain required materials would be onsite when required, however there would be delays, sometimes hours, sometimes days. This turned a two week job into a 3.5 week job. We had to ask for additional funds to cover the labour of having employees there for an extra 8 days. We discussed the labour issue with Tim and he told us all he could afford was an extra $500.00. We agreed to complete the drywall, floating and prime, and that he would finish the paint and install fixtures, to save him money.
The Schluter Kerdi membrane WAS installed all around the floor pan, curb, corners and niche as required, which is why there was only one roll to return. The plumbing was installed according to dimensions that the homeowner provided as we waited for its arrival. The dimensions were wrong and had to be adjusted after the homeowner went and picked it up in Montreal. After we installed the vanity, Tim changed sink styles as the originals did not fit his vanity. He went from under-mount sinks to vessel sinks which resulted in the plumbing needing to be changed. The drywall behind the vanity was installed after all of the changes required by homeowner material changes. The tiles were installed as full tiles and were not cut (please see attached image)
When Tim paid the final $500.00 he refused to pay the HST, at which point we said we would withhold the invoice until we received. No HST payment has been received to date, therefore no final invoice was provided.
Wow. Dave was meticulous from start to finish in doing my bathroom renovation. He kept the area clean and detailed at all times. Communication was daily and if there were any issues, he consulted me and dealt with it in a very prompt and courteous fashion.
Dave's group far exceeded my expectations with the finished product. My ensuite is so nice that I don't even want to use it!
Well done Dave and I look forward to having you back for other projects in the house! Will definitely refer you to any other potential clients.
Thank you very much Robert, we appreciate your business.
