We started our 55 K dream project with PGC renovations owned by Rodney Jenkins who promised to complete the project in 4 weeks. The project turned out to be a complete nightmare and left a scar in our heart due to his horrible and incomplete work and rude and obnoxious attitude.
After tons of promises, the project kicked off very well until we paid out 75% of the money. Then we noticed his work started slowing down. He would come late and leave early as 1 pm many times, but he said he will work from 8 to 5. We didn’t have any problem with him leaving early or coming late. We were afraid that he might take
way more than 4 weeks to finish, judging by his tardiness which as we predicted carried out till the 7th week and was left unfinished.
When we saw him laying the tiles without spacers. We asked him doesn’t one have to use spacers he answered, “I don’t use spacers”.
Since, he is a constructor we assumed he knows what he was doing. But we started noticing the uneven spaces around the tiles and even our friends who visited started saying that the tiles looked messy. We were disappointed since we spent weeks and lots of money on special order tiles and was super excited about getting our first home renovated.
Then, he nearly gave us a heart attack when he said he will come after two weeks to finish rest of the project, which till then out entire family has to continue to stay in the basement. We literally had to beg him to stay and continue to work on the project without leaving midst of it which happens to be pointless.
At the end of 7 Weeks over 40% work left, and Rod demand us to pay the final bill plus additional plumbing charges which was never brought to our attention before. When we asked him to show us the Plumbing bill, we never got a bill.
Also later on when we called the plumber he said that there was no such a bill. Now our house is a mess due to a greedy contractor!!! who left without completing his job. Even when our realtor visited out house he asked if the guy who laid the tiles was doing it for the first time.
Our main objective to add an extra heat/ac vent to the sun room and we have clearly stated in our Project in trusted pro website. When plumber came to do the plumbing Rod took off and plumber removed the existing Vent to install pipes. When I questioned him that he promised us to run more vent’s but now our existing vent has been removed. The answer was “Keep the doors open you will be fine”
Communication was a big issue when with Rod, When I asked Rod how much tiles need for our washrooms he said you know the measurement buy it. I bough the tiles for entire wall then he said he was not informed. As a constructore he should design the plan with me rather than talking about his newly purcheased home all the time.
Rod was not happy that we applied for permit which the inspector asked to fix his lousy job several time like fixing the stair, insulation, etc.
The way laid tiles on both washroom, sun room and hallway are very uneven and ugly.
1. Sun room sky light not closed and no wooden ceiling and pot lights as in the agreement.
2. Stairs to the sun room not finished because failed in the inspection. (Narrow runners / uneven space between runners, more then 4” space between stair guards)
3. No doors for hallway closet and bedroom (brought wrong special order door sizes)
4. No Shower door for stand out shower
5. Doors are not painted and no door hardware (knobs, door stops)
6. No baseboard for half of the house
7. Paining not done on many walls
8. Washroom vanities not hooked properly
9. New additional room's right side door trim has only 1/4 inch who build wrong size wall
We undertook a major renovation that involved demolition of an existing large stone fireplace, removal of a dividing wall and a total upgrade of the kitchen. The results are very impressive! Rodney demonstrated in-depth knowledge on all aspects of the work required, had some great ideas for enhancements, and took care of all the finishing details.
This is the second project we have called on PGC Renovations - the first was a master bathroom - and we would definitely call them again for the next project!
I really enjoyed working with Rodney and his team. Rodney is very easy going, and will always listen to any suggestions. He always encouraged us to check things over and advise him if any changes were required. His estimate included an adequate allowance which allowed us to pick out our own flooring, bathroom fixtures, etc. Working with Rodney made this project stress free. Rodney is hardworking and reliable and very professional. I would definitely call him again for any additional projects. We love our finished basement, it is a very beautiful space thanks to Rodney and his team!
We are extremely pleased with the quality workmanship of PGCrenovations. We first used Rodney and his team for our en suite renovation. Rodney's attention to detail and willingness to satisfy our requests was excellent. We have subsequently hired PGC for other renovation projects in both our home and cottage.
