Premise Design Inc. is a professional, down-to-earth, boutique design firm in Calgary, AB. Intentionally small because getting to know you is important, which means very personal service; Boutique because this experience is unique and focused.

About the owner:
Melinda graduated from Interior Design at Mount Royal College in 1998 with the goal of pursuing architecture afterwards, which was her first love. She contracted to Paul Lavoie Interior Design Corporation, where she was greatly influenced in design style, and continued there while also working at Abugov Kaspar doing health care, commercial, retail, and high-end residential design. Working with the architects there confirmed her desire to become one, and she was accepted into Carlton University s Architecture program. Unfortunately, a car accident stopped her from being able to fulfill her dream despite her efforts to regain her health, so Melinda decided to redirect her focus and put her heart into interior design.
She moved on to Ingenium Design Group and worked on commercial and residential design. From there she went to Shane Homes and her greater love for residential projects became clear.
After taking some time off for her health she started Premise Design in 2005. Melinda has built up her client base and workload, and is consistently keeping her knowledge current through continuing education. In 2012 she decided to pursue being certified through NCIDQ and passed the rigorous exams.
Melinda has retained her interest in architecture and sees the bigger picture with projects while balancing that with her precise attention to details. She has a heart for her clients and cares deeply that their needs are addressed properly. And whenever she gets the chance to work with fabrics or wallpaper, she is known to get a little giddy.
When not designing, Melinda spends her time in quiet in her garden, experimenting in the kitchen with healthy recipes, working on art projects, reading, enjoying good BBC dramas, and hanging out with her husband.
